Any speculations on new features for 12.2?

My wishes:
  • USB-C external storage device support
  • All orientation Face ID on iPhone (borrowing iPad's implementation)
  • 10W wireless charging
I strongly suspect 12.3 will coincide with Apple's streaming service that is widely rumored around March 2019 timeframe, with revamped TV app.

iPhone's don't have landscape orientation homescreen like the iPad, so there is very small use for an all orientation Face ID. Additionally, I'm pretty sure the wireless charging rate is based on the hardware, not software. (With the exception of it going from 5w to 7.5w because that was advertised from the get-go)

As for 12.2 and 12.3, with 12.1.1 going into beta, it is very possible that 12.2 will replace what 11.3 and 10.3 were. So if there is a 12.3, it might come in June, like 11.4.

Good point about Face ID. When I am standing up (or sitting straight), Face ID works reliably enough when held at 45 degrees or better.

But when you are lying down on bed, it is much less forgiving. Much less so than new iPad Pro. So increasing operating range might improve Face ID for those use cases as well?

I would agree that increasing the angle range would be a good idea. I do have similar issues as well, I just don't foresee a full 90 degree or even 180 degree angle increase. I think anything over like 55-60 degrees would require the unlock bar to move from the bottom of the phone to the side of the phone for the swipe up to function. Then the device would be unlocking sideways to the portrait home screen.

Since Thursday will actually be the 2 week mark since last beta, I suspect we will get a release on Thursday (if not before). Since its said that Apple is way ahead internally there should be a build ready. Of course another beta is also possible but it seems there are not a lot of changes or issues with 12.1.1 so it could be ready.
