With the benefit of not being able to reset a device with buttons in the case of a freezing iOS. I would be extremely interested on how they deal with a frozen device without sending it back to Apple store or worse, depot like Apple Watch.

They will still have a power button and could also do the flexible “squeeze frame” option.

But just a power button could incorporate various sequences of presses to achieve it.

Given that Apple gives power button the ability to activate Siri, I am not sure how they could get away with no physical button. Unless, the button is in the form of sealed mechanism. Still physical, but no cut out at the frame at all. Then, how would they deal with hard metal frame? I have no idea.

They created a fake button that feels exactly like a button when pressed...I’m confident they can figure something out.

A lot of weirdness going on between my phone on 13 and my Watch on 5.3. My stocks to watch have disappeared and when I try to re-add them, I get “Dictation failed”. The watch went into DND an hour before it should have last night (governed by Bedtime app on phone).

If this continues, I’ll report.

The gestures are all very up in the air for now. That handle at the top of slideover windows is still there but doesn't work the same way. For now, here's what I've found: -

- Throw up from the bottom of a slideover window to see everything you've stacked in slideover. They showed this in the keynote
- To dismiss slideover drag from the left side of a slideover window. This can take a little practice.
- To take an app from slideover to split view tap and hold that top grab handle then drag

This stuff is going to be in flux for quite a while. It while likely change subtley or drastically across releases.

OMG! Thank you for telling me how to dismiss. It was driving me nuts. I was doing it the old way by using the handle at the top of the window!!!

Here's a weird one... CarPlay's alphabet now starts with B.

EDIT: Oh... it's because the first column of letters is hidden under the "dock".

Something new jn activity app:
- the main page with circle description doesn’t have two subpages for each metic (the two small dots under) but only one page and small annotation under
- workout app gain a new field: elevation min max

They actually talked about that in the CarPlay session at WWDC. There’s now a specially designated area on the screen for viewability. This may be a bug related to that.

I’m really surprised at how stable this beta is on my XS. I’ve been using every single one of my apps and none crash. All work fine. Only thing I’ve noticed is an occasional minor UI glitch in the Messages app. Good stuff.

Yes same here question why when I click contacts I don’t have suggested contacts which I like and it doesn’t show me 1200 contacts I don’t need so clicking on contact folder it’s fine but when you go to the phone icon and look for contacts there I get suggested contacts? So phone I can shows suggested contacts even if I got them turned off??

Now my iPhone is showing up in the Finder sidebar when not connected, but when I click on it, the window only displays the text "The operation couldn't be completed (OSStatus error 1119)". Anyone familiar with OSStatus errors? Never seen that before.

Are you trying to load the beta, or is this post-installation?

Has anyone seen any kind of tutorial or instructions on the QuickPath swipe typing method? Trying to figure out how to do punctuation (aside from a period) without stopping my swiping flow.

If you go to settings general fonts, you have the ability to add new fonts. Are any available to add yet?

I actually copied your post to Notes. iPad multitasking is not one of Apple’s shining moments for usability/discoverability.

It's just inherent to gesture systems unfortunately, especially as they offer more functionality. With the beta we a new gesture system and no documentation or quick start guide so it's extra inscrutable. I discovered the things I noticed by rewatching the iPad demos for WWDC very closely and playing around. The more I use these gestures the more they make sense to me.

- Bottom edge for managing slideover multitasking: Swipe up for slideover expose, swipe right for slideover quickswitch.
- Left edge to dismiss
- Top edge to move and change modality between slideover and side by side

Three locations for three distinct tasks. It's definitely going to be interesting to track how these may change over the beta cycle (and how many times my muscle memory has to be retrained :D).

On the Talk Show Live Craig talked about Apple giving themselves permission to make iPadOS more complex, but having the mission to not alienate those who use it as a single app or lightly multitasked experience. That has to be a very difficult balance to strike. For me, beefing up Files and improving multitasking put the iPad quite a lot further down to the road to being a "real computer".

Did you have to do anything special to get the Activity app to appear?

I always do betas from scratch, and unfortunately when I paired my watch to my phone, I never got the Activity app to actually load (though the data is syncing; it shows my rings in Health).
