if my memory is correct, in the past there wasn’t a beta version for new issue phones for awhile after they released. Anybody else remember that

You can install the BETA of 13.1 on the new iPhone and then restore the backup made on old iPhone under 13.1 beta. Where is the problem?

Because it could be a while after the new phones come out that they release 13.1 for them.

It doesn’t matter. You don’t need the final version of 13.1. You have to install the BETA version and then you can restore the backup of the old phone. It’s easy.

Guess we’re not being clear. The betas only work on selected models, somehow it checks which iPhone you have and downloads the correct files for your phone type. If you have an old unsupported model it won’t install. Until Apple creates a beta version to download that includes the XI (or whatever new phone will be called) it won’t download or for sure won’t install.

Wonder if it could be a naming mistake as watch os 13 beta 9 is out.

Why they should not? It makes no sense to NOT support the new iPhones. Totally nonsense. The beta of 13.1 will work without any doubt on the new iPhones.

I’m pretty sure iOS 13.0 Beta 8 was the GM.

Nope. It’ll be a different build to the Beta 8. GM build number is always higher than the last beta.

Guess your joke missed the mark. Better luck next time.

If you read the full post, it would have been obvious. Instead, you and others just focussed on the not serious part. the first part of my post appears to be bang on, no new beta until GM.

It’s deffo not a typo, check out Steve Troughton-Smith’s twitter. He’s the man that would know, he’s responsible for a lot of the big finds in the code of iOS about things, like new products and whatnot.

He confirms the file name on the server and that iOS 13.1 is what Apple want people are on. He confirms iOS 13 barely made it over the line for release. So that’s as official as we will get that no new iOS 13 betas until GM.

They have internal betas, but usually wait until the next beta release for a new device. So if a beta comes out and the new iPhone is a week later, unless it’s on a weekly schedule, you’ll be waiting until the next release for a beta for that model. We can say that, as we’ve seen it.

Looks like it was around 2 days between the XS launch and a 12.1 beta being available for it. So not great if you're getting the XI at launch and want to restore a backup, I'll be keeping away from 13.1 until I know what Apple plan to launch with.

So what are the odds that 13.1 will be released at the same time as the newer devices (via an update same day), it seems a big jump, so there's a chance it could be a month or two before 13.1 gets released (final), unless they only plan to do 3-4 betas of it for release. I'd still have expected like 13.0.1 or something versus an entire .1 jump, and as others have said if there isn't a 13.1 build (beta) for the newer devices those 13.1 backups won't be usable.

But historically they didn’t. I’m glad you’re so sure, history doesn’t agree with you though. But I hope you’re right, I want to play with my new iPhone as soon as it arrives.

You are correct. Sometimes they release it at like 1-2pm pacific time on the new devices, sometimes I think it's taken longer tho.

If you are planning on getting a new iPhone, do NOT upgrade to iOS 13.1. Any potential benefits don't outweigh the negatives.

Unless of course you wanna setup your new iPhone as a "New iPhone" and not restore from backup. Then upgrade away.

Installing without thinking is what I did sadly. I guess I will be prepared for a “as new” upgrade. As I said earlier might not be a bad idea after all with all the betas This cycle.

IOS 11 GM = 15A372 Beta 10 = 15A5372a
IOS12 GM = 16A366 Beta 12 = 16A5366a

So we could imagine IOS 13 beta 8 = 17A5572a GM = 17A572 ?

iPP is not ready for iOS 13 GM imo. It’s okay but it still has ridiculous bugs like apps being squashed to half the screen when you first open them. Amateur looking UI stuff. I thought for sure there would be a few more betas..
