Plenty of folks have pointed out the warning of updating to 13.1 Beta 1 if you are getting a new phone, so I'm not going to repeat them on that front.

I wouldn't be surprised if Beta 8 ends up being the GM that's loaded onto the devices being produced currently overseas. I do think the iOS 13 release will be identical to iOS 10, where the prime time release was a X.X.1 the day the software came out to the public. This version was more polished. This gives the devs another 2-3 weeks to squash the remaining bugs.

The GM release will be a different build. Might not be different by many commits, but it won’t be the exact same build as Beta 8.

I still can't understand this kind of move. Why would they release a version ahead while the first is still in beta. Anyone care to give a plausible explanation?

Because they’re happy with what they have ready to release with iOS 13, and since they know they’re adding back in Share ETA and Shortcut Automations, they warrant a x.1 release and have started on that, for a quick turnaround for release.

They will surely release it, in the worst scenario we have to wait 1 day like with iOS 11.

In the worst scenario you could be waiting a week or so for the next beta release. There’s no guarantee they’ll have a beta out that quickly for a new device. In best case scenario it’s the day after the release.

Could be but I hope not. B8 just doesn't seem like a GM quality build. Also curious that they haven't removed b8 from the dev portal.

B8 has been cracking on mine and my family’s iOS devices. Also, every year there are people who say what you’re saying, but sure enough the GM comes out and there you go.

What if iOS 13.1 beta will be exclusive to Dev testers while only public beta testers will get new betas of 13.0?

See my theory below, from the 13.1 thread:

My (very preliminary) theory: With the trade war between the US and China, Apple possibly has already built and shipped its launch batch of iPhones (normally, that would still be 2 weeks from now). Those had to have iOS 13 on them when they shipped, so they installed a build we've already seen. They will hit the shelves on Sept 20 and iOS 13.1 will be ready for them to update then or shortly after.

This may also explain some things, such as why items like automations were removed. If it wasn't ready for prime time during the beta prior to when they were removed, they were taken out. That way, if Apple did pull the trigger on early shipment, they wouldn't be caught with half-baked software.

Quick question. If iOS 13.1 comes out as a public beta will deleting the beta profile allow you to downgrade to iOS 13 when the official launch comes out?

In all likelihood, no. But you will be able to downgrade using normal methods. But you’ll wan to archive a backup on 13 before upgrading to 13.1.

If you want to jump off the PB when iOS 13 comes out, I would wait for the iOS 13 GM to be released on 10 Sep, install that and then delete the beta profile. This will keep you in line with general releases available to all from then on.

As for the backups, they are not generally backwards-compatible, i.e. if you restore your phone to the official iOS 13 once it comes out and try to load iOS 13.1 beta backup on it, you will be asked to upgrade your iPhone to the same 13.1 variant or younger.

Public beta of what? 13.0 or 13.1? I'd be surprised by either frankly.

Yeah, at this point after yesterday’s 13.1 release/confusion that it’s a safe bet to assume the latest iOS 13 beta is the last beta that will be released. A GM is usually released the day of the announcement for new iPhones. So if you don’t want to update to 13.1, you’ll most likely have to stay on the current build of 13

Yea I wish I didnt upgrade to the 13.1 beta, I should have held off. I will just stay in 13.1 until its released then. Still cant believe that 13.1 doesn’t have the AirPods announce feature back in yet.

I find this whole situation very weird. Historically (iOS 12 and 11 at least) the last beta was the same build as the GM.
How can they leave iOS 13 Beta users on this unpolished build and force them to upgrade to another, even more unpolished one? Unless iOS 13 Beta 8 is technically the GM but... a GM where 3d touching a profile picture crashes Messages? Really?

There have been way more unpolished releases than this one.

Apple never forced people to upgrade to 13.1. It was an optional upgrade of course. Also, the only available 13.1 beta is a developer beta, and even if you did upgrade, if you don't know how to downgrade to 13.0, then you shouldn't be on a developer beta in the first place. Furthermore, there is no public beta for iOS 13.1 so there is no forcing of upgrades to a younger public beta.

Basically, the confusion happened because Apple released a 13.1 beta earlier than usual. It was clearly labelled as 13.1, yet people just assumed Apple made a mistake and upgraded anyway, thinking it must be 13.0 beta 9, but of course it turns out Apple made no such mistake.

If you want the official launch version, you need to delete any beta profiles now.

I did not upgrade to 13.1, and if I did I would certainly know how to downgrade. That's not the issue here.
The issue is that historically the last betas were GMs or close to GM level of polish. This last beta was not. I switched to 13.0 beta fairly late in order to get the later betas and I feel like I'm owed a "decent" beta before they switch over to another early dot release. But in all fairness it's not Apple's fault, we are beta testers after all.

I hate to say it: you are not owed anything re betas (which I think you conceded in your last sentence). As far as I am concerned, beta 8 was about as polished as it needed to be. I had no significant issues with anything on it, including Mail. Obviously not true for everyone, but that happens every year, also. One of the occupational hazards with a yearly OS update cadence.

What’s this MacBook giveaway about?

It started a few pages back. Basically there is a giveaway since there was a beta yesterday, as long as there is not one today.

To be entered into the drawing, you have to post a pic of your favorite baby animal in this thread.
