Because it’s still in beta. We’re not likely to get b2 this week, meaning that next wee we would get it. On that basis, you’re expecting 2 betas (b1 is buggy as hell, worse than the iOS 13.0 betas) so it needs 4 betas, minimum.

Only 1 iOS x.1 release only had 2 betas. It makes no sense they’d have iOS 13.1 ready for next week/week after.

I would disregard the number of betas for 3.1 - Apple are likely many builds ahead of beta 1 already. Regardless of our feedback 3.1 is over 250 (can’t recall the exact figure) builds ahead of the last 3.0 beta we got and would have added things they don’t want us to see until after the keynote. Time will tell - we can take this up next week and prove me wrong (or right).

The build numbers are irrelevant, as developer testing is needed. Bearing in mind how 13.1 b1 broke apps that were working in 13.0 db8.

New features are pretty much never added in beta 2 or later.

Also, you know the keynote was back in June. Next week is a media event. It’s showing off the new devices.

3.1 is ahead of 3.0 in builds - and progress. Yes, the event was in June but they won’t show new features (which will be in the software) until next week. Otherwise we would all know everything that’s coming. As I said, let’s see next week.

It’s still unbelievable for me that 13.0 Beta 8 will be the Golden Master. I know that it will be but it’s not even done.

But it seems that this 13.1 has a lot more bugs than b8....

Do you know that to be true? Otherwise it’s anecdotal.

From my perspective, 13.1b1 is substantially similar to 13.0b8. The only significant issue is the Share Sheet.

This thing is ready for prime time.

Doesn’t it make sense that a beta 1 is not as polished as a beta 8, does it?

Sure it does , I was replying to « 13.1 b1 would be more or less like 13.0 b9 «
Or maybe I didn’t understand what he wanted to say , that would be possible too , English is not my mother language so if I made a mistake I apologize.

Well, we can just check the amount of bugs/unresolved issues in the iOS 13.1 beta 1 thread here:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/ios-13-1-beta-1-―-bug-fixes-changes-and-improvements.2195338/

And this thread for people wanting to move back to iOS 13.0 DB8 from 13.1 beta 1:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/downgrade-to-b8-from-13-1.2195405/page-2#post-27682539

I am not sure if this is considered “anecdotal”, but in this case we have lots of 13.1 beta anecdotes to still make us careful installing it on our main devices. ;)

I do not want to belittle iOS 13.1 in any way, I just think it is still unripe.

13.1 has been working great. With the exception of the share sheet which is the one thing that keeps coming brought up in conversation. People looking to downgrade are the ones that are going to be upgrading to the iPhone 11.

Because new major feature additions or breaking changes require a point release instead of a minor one.
Sure, but why would they release major new features right away that they don’t have in 13.0 if the goal is to release a more polished/finalized public version of what has been under test for a while now?

Because they are adding back the features they took out in the earlier betas. If they did this, say, after the release of 13.0, adding these features back in are substantial enough of a change to warrant the point release status even though these features were in iOS 13 originally. They obviously had to be reworked and hence are different than their first iteration.

Sure, that’s definitely behind 13.1, but that doesn’t have much to do implying that 13.1 will be what gets released as the first public version of iOS 13.

I think for that we are (or at least I am) relying on the unprecedented step by Apple of releasing a beta version of a point release before the major release has been issued and inferring further from the precarious position Apple finds itself in with its largest revenue source potentially being subject to tariffs that were not a factor in earlier years. I’m sure you’ve read/seen the rest of that theory, so I won’t fully rehearse it here.
