The Upside Down
Yes the biggest unknown seems to be the watch. Will there be a watch 5 or just software upgrade. New cases we know about but will there be new hardware.

And knowing Apple they have a few surprises they have tried very hard to keep hidden in IOS 13. If not they will stuffer a lot of negative press.

I'm guessing Apple would probably do a Series 5 with sleep tracking exclusive to it. They'll probably use better battery and/or better battery-efficient processor as an excuse to make sleep tracking exclusive to the Series 5. It's not like they've never done it before e.g. Animoji being a iPhone X-series exclusive

Ok, maybe this was asked before but how does Apple install the final release of iOS on new iPhones? Do they manage to install it a few days before shipping all the new iPhones? iOS 13 is still in beta but I'm pretty much sure that a few million new-gen iPhones have been manufactured by now... am I dumb and missing something?

What is every expecting this week ?? its usually 14 days between .1 beta 1 to beta 2 and if 13.0 beta 8 was the GM .. then we have nothing till the 10th correct ??

Because the working theory is that this is not a usual beta, but is really something more akin to 13.0 beta 9 but with the 13.1 moniker. I won't go into why we think that (as it has been laid out ad nauseam above), but if a beta does appear this week, it will be some evidence that this theory is correct.

FWIW (and I may regret saying this in about 10 minutes), but I think that we're more likely to see a beta 2 tomorrow (as people recover from the long weekend off here in the US).

What? Your comparison makes no sense considering Animoji‘s require the FaceID sensors to animate. They came up with the sticker part for iOS 13 and retroactively released that part to phones without FaceID sensors.

We’ve seen phones with the iOS installed about 2-3 weeks before shipping to the end consumer. This is why they won’t be shipping with 13.1, as it’s in beta without a beta 2 yet, so they won’t have stuck a beta on them.

This is why some are saying that 13.1 will come out on day of release instead. (Even then, if we get a beta this week, it will be only 3 betas between now and that week, max. Also I feel that’s unlikely. I don’t think we’ve seen a x.1 beta have that few a beta releases, from recollection.

If we don’t get a beta 2 until next week, then that’s even more unlikely for a 13.1 release the week after.

Edit:

Only 1 iOS x.1 release out of 12 was less than 5 betas, which was 8.1 at 2 betas, and that was about 3 weeks between beta 1 and final release that release was purely for Apple Pay, iOS 13.1 has no feature on that level, that’s missing the boat for 13.0:

Apple doesn't release anything immediately after a holiday

Tomorrow is more likely

Yea, someone already said that, then someone tries saying that 13.1 ain’t normal, so who knows. I know that it’s obvious it won’t be today due to the Labour Day weekend.

Ok, so there seems to be some sort of a “rumour agreement” now that Apple loaded iOS 13.0 PB7/DB8 onto a considerable number of iPhones and shipped them out of China earlier in order to avoid being hit by the tarifs.

The latest iOS 13.0 beta is also considered to be less buggy than the current iOS 13.1 beta 1, which makes sense, considering 13.1 is just starting out.

So my question remains - why did Apple choose to bring in iOS 13.1 beta now, before finalising iOS 13.0? What actual difference would it make to people buying a new iPhone with iOS 13.0 “mature” beta preinstalled? When they unpack the new iPhone, they could just install iOS 13.0 GM on it (which should have been even more polished release by then). Meantime, the developers and PB testers could be offered further iOS 13.1 betas to try, if they wish.

Right now it remains a mess - we might well get another iOS 13.1 beta this week, but most certainly not another iOS 13.0 one (as there is no way to install it via OTA anyway now). Then what will Apple release next week after the new iPhones are announced? A GM based on iOS 13.0, which we won’t be able to install OTA either, or a pre-release candidate based on iOS 13.1 (its beta 3, effectively)? We are up for a few interesting weeks, I guess.

13.1 beta 2 this week, 13.0 Gm next week. following week when 13.0 goes OTA then 13.1 beta 3 after that.

What is best plan for hopping off the PB train and going back to stock? I would prefer not to DFU and just time the deletion of the profile. Possible?

Wait for 13 to be released on 10th or just after...
