That should pretty much confirm that GM will be 13.1 then.
Not sure this necessarily shows much one way or another aside from some build of iOS 13.1 (like beta 1) being on the device, assuming its actually an upcoming model to begin with.

iOS 13 Beta 9 would be better

No chance man. Let it go.

Makes sense, as they’re done with testing 13.0 and moved on to 13.1. iOS 13.0 is on the new devices for shipping. So they’ll all be on that when people receive them.

13.1 is on only on Beta 1, there’s no way they’d stick that on the devices that are currently being readied to ship.

That article is not really something to look at in regards to release.

Ok, so there seems to be some sort of a “rumour agreement” now that Apple loaded iOS 13.0 PB7/DB8 onto a considerable number of iPhones and shipped them out of China earlier in order to avoid being hit by the tarifs.

The latest iOS 13.0 beta is also considered to be less buggy than the current iOS 13.1 beta 1, which makes sense, considering 13.1 is just starting out.

So my question remains - why did Apple choose to bring in iOS 13.1 beta now, before finalising iOS 13.0? What actual difference would it make to people buying a new iPhone with iOS 13.0 “mature” beta preinstalled? When they unpack the new iPhone, they could just install iOS 13.0 GM on it (which should have been even more polished release by then). Meantime, the developers and PB testers could be offered further iOS 13.1 betas to try, if they wish.

Right now it remains a mess - we might well get another iOS 13.1 beta this week, but most certainly not another iOS 13.0 one (as there is no way to install it via OTA anyway now). Then what will Apple release next week after the new iPhones are announced? A GM based on iOS 13.0, which we won’t be able to install OTA either, or a pre-release candidate based on iOS 13.1 (its beta 3, effectively)? We are up for a few interesting weeks, I guess.

Because of history...new phones ship with new iOS. So, they’ve “wrapped up” 13.0 to get it on the phones, they have 13.1 ready to go and it will IMHO be released within the first week after phones deliver.

Considering the current amount of complaints about iOS 13.1 beta 1, its long list of bugs and the number of people currently going through some incredible acrobatics just to get themselves back to iOS 13.0 beta 8, it is that “they have iOS 13.1 ready to go” bit that I find hard to believe.

The rest is all fine.

The GM is signed off internally long before it’s released to the developers.

If you look at threads from last year, there were phones showing as being built and internally tested with the GM build a month or earlier before the phones are released.

That’s what I’m basing my OS version on the phone by, nothing to do with the rumour about early shipping for tariffs.

Even Steve Troughton-Smith confirms that 13.0 was finalised late, compared to previous years.

Also, the GM for OTA might be a higher build number than the 13.1 release. Especially since the 13.1 b1 is buggier than 13.0 B8. (Another reason I think there’s no chance it’s gonna be 2-3 betas for a 13.1 release around 20th for the new devices, it’s WAY too buggy to be sorted for then. Thus my suspicion it’s an October release).

I think someone on this thread made a point that part of the confusion when 13.1 b1 was released might have been wrongly labelled was due to the build number being the same style as 13.0 and would have expected to be different for a x.1 release. (I’m butchering the words, but that’s the gist of it).

Us judging that 13.1 beta 1 is the latest beta that they had. Could also be wrong. Internally. They could be another 200 builds ahead 13.1 beta 1...

That is usually always the case. Internally is always ahead of what the DB build is. I don’t think anyone was unaware of that fact. Doesn’t mean they sorted all the issues we’ve seen.

At this point theories are like rear ends, everyone has one. Guess we will know next week.
I am expecting 13.1 to be the release version.

LOL. Yeah. And all theories (including mine) may be (and quite likely are) wrong in some respect because we really don’t know what goes on in the black box that is Apple, Inc. But that’s what makes this fun, particularly if people provide some reasoning for their opinions.

Last year, iPhone XR was released a month later than XS/XS Max. So I would not be surprised that they plan to release new XR in Oct again which would give enough test time for 13.1 GM to be shipped with XR.

For phones shipping in Sep, 13.0 GM will likely be on it with less features. Apple would say more features coming in Oct.

I'm still thinking 13.1 will be available at release, only reason for 13.1 beta before 13.0 release IMO.

or iOS 13.1, WatchOS 6 and tvOS today and macOS Catalina on Thursday makes more sense. :)

One week until the new iPhones, the hype is real. I wonder, like with WatchOS and the recently-rumored sleep tracking, if there are parts of iOS 13 we haven't been exposed to yet (dev or public beta users).

Yes the biggest unknown seems to be the watch. Will there be a watch 5 or just software upgrade. New cases we know about but will there be new hardware.

And knowing Apple they have a few surprises they have tried very hard to keep hidden in IOS 13. If not they will stuffer a lot of negative press.

Apple almost always has something in the wings for the new devices. Hopefully things like the sleep tracking for WatchOS will work with existing devices. Time will tell!
