So, the new phones are due to be released on September 20th, Apple start bundling the internal GM release onto those devices starting a month beforehand. So your cutoff date is actually the usual cutoff date, which is why Beta 8 was last beta and will be the GM.

If you're right about the tariffs, then they would have done it MUCH earlier.

The 2 features re-introduced, are not significant enough to warrant a rush release of 13.1 for the day of the phone release. a x.1 release tends to be over a month after a x.0 release, but it could be that due to rumoured new Watches, or something they will announce at the event, but not released the same day as the new phones, that they're wanting that x.1 release earlier than normal, possibly the end of September, or early October. This is much more likely than your Tariffs goes.

Also, you keep missing out the point that it makes no real sense that they would rush a x.1 beta to release in a less than 4 week period for Developers to test their apps, as some are massively broken in 13.1 b1 and already seeing them not being resolved in b2. Adobe Creative Cloud & Fitbit still seem broken and that's a big one to have broken still.
Well, to your point about doing it "much earlier", no. They still had to finalize the design and construction prototyping of the phone and set up the lines.

I am done with this argument for now. I think the telltales are all there for a general release of this software in 2 weeks' time. Time will tell if my position is correct or if you are.

You're saying that they did an internal GM, then carried on with a beta 7 & 8 then?? You really have no clue with how developing software works.

Yes it will, and if I am wrong, I will come back and admit it, I hope you would be humble enough to do the same.

Though, I would like you to tell me your logic as to why those features being added back in are so significant enough that they've rushed a 13.1 release, rather than leave it til later, and done a 13.0.1 day 1 release if there were any bugs missed due to rushed shipping for tariffs?

Are you implying that I would not admit I was wrong if Iwas? LOL! That's pretty insulting.

Apple is updating the iPhones in the logistic distribution centers just before delivery

No one knows why they force a 13.1 with automations or shared ETA. I could‘ve lived without them for a month or two but it seems like Apple thinks otherwise and wants the features out aa fast as possible.

Not at all. I think it's pretty insulting that you're insinuating that I was though.

There have been releases with features added it that are MUCH more significant than those, like Apple Pay, that were not rushed for day 1 release. Automations & Shared ETA are not worthy of a rushed release in anyones book, and thank you for backing me up on that, so it just confirms there's no logic for this being rushed for Day 1 due to those features.

Through the boxes? i don't think so.
They have a patent for that though (don‘t think it‘s more than a patent though). Some kind of ultra low power mode with a fuse that gets blown after the device got activated to download a new build. Can‘t find that article anymore though, would love to read it again cause I think it‘s something worth to push R&D money into if possible.

Oh, no doubt. That and through the air charging are probably big developments just over the horizon. But my understanding (and I know you are not disagreeing) is that the phones now are flashed just before they get packaged/palleted and loaded onto planes. I'd love to watch this in action.

I would‘ve taken RCS support in Messages over any of the new iOS 13 featurs, but Apple seems to think otherwise. Just cause we think the features can wait and also keep begging for stuff like redesigned caller id screens, Apple does what they think is best for them. They seem to think these 2 features are a must have so they push for them. Even if 13.1 comes out a while after launch, Apple still showed they want them asap due to rushing the betas out before devs could even get a chance to test any potential 13.0GM.

Yeah they probably still get flashed the „old way“. I‘d love for some form of in-package wireless flashing of devices though, opens up a lot of new possibilities for future updates... like entirely eliminate day 1 updates.

Features you want that don't exist is not a comparable point...... Again, you're making the assumption that it's being released after only 3 betas on the 20th with the phones. It's more logical that it's going to be for the new (rumoured) watches & (definitely more than rumoured) Apple TVs, which will come after the phones. The new Apple TVs will be out in time for the new Apple TV Plus service which is due by November (especially since Disney Plus is 12th November, so they'll not want to release the same time as them,

Apple has many patents. I can confirm in practice they do not do this.

I am just going to say this: it is amazing the contortions some on here will twist themselves into to deny even the possibility that Apple will release 13.1 at iPhone launch. I honestly am baffled by the emotions surrounding this. It’s not like 13.1 is a complete mess (and its not).

Now I am really done on this. Time will either validate me or it won’t and I will be the first to admit it if I am wrong.

I could point out that your post I’m quoting is a poor attempt at a veiled insult, as it’s obvious you’re making a dig at me. No getting emotional here, my friend. Are you projecting yours?

iOS 13 public release on the 16th?

I think it's usually the Wednesday, so the 18th (or is its the Tuesday, so then the 17th, damn I'm forgetting).

iOS 12 was released to the public on September 17, 2018. that happened to be a Monday. iOS 11 was released on a tuesday. So 13 should be released either Monday/Tuesday.

When are we thinking we'll see the public version of 13.1 beta 2? I just tumbled off the 13 side of the fence after holding out on 12 this long.

maybe today, if last week is anything to go by, though mind you, I've been told that I shouldn't base my guesses on what has happened previously.....

Potentially in an hour or so, or perhaps tomorrow. Of course, there's always the possibility it might be even later than that (for whatever reason).

Thanks. Maybe I'll make my way back onto the fence by the time it's released. I'm generally pretty satisfied with how my XS works on 12.4 but any chance there is of getting rid of my Settings lockups is a chance I'm happy to take.

With settings lockup you mean the settings app being unresponsive occasionally? I think that‘s related to device settings cause that issue has followed me across dozens of devices (starting with iPhone 7 to my current Xs running 13). I hand my previous devices down to family members and none of them have that issue anymore.

Which is why I think it’s going to be end of September/Early October. There’s no real reason to rush 13.1 as it’s not like it’s bringing any features like Apple Pay in 8.1.

This has been an interesting back and forth to read through...

While the tariff thing is interesting, the more I think about it the more unlikely this becomes as a reason for why they pushed features from 13.0 to 13.1. I think the most likely reason these features got pushed was because it was determined that they needed more time and testing.

Also I can't believe that Apple is going to skip 13.0 on the public release and jump right to 13.1. There's no reason I can see as to why they'd need to release 13.1 instead of 13.0 in a couple weeks.

My guess

13.0 installed on new iPhones / first public release
13.1 not coming till October

Well bollocks. Setting up as new is the way out of this then?
