I agree. Whatever shows up will most likely be a 13.0/13.1 17Axxx build with a name being whatever Apple wants to call it. Being that 13.1 in its current form is technically a 13.0 build using the current 13.0 profile and versioning scheme they can roll out whatever they want and it will update all users on build 17A5831c or lower. If they choose to label it 13.0 or 13.1 is debatable. IF they label it 13.0, I suspect the next 13.1 beta build will move to the normal 17Bxxxx build versioning to reflect a true x.X update.
"13.0 profile"? AFAIK, it's just beta profile.

IIRC, on previous versions of iOS, I just installed my beta iOS profile, and after the OS was updated to GM, if I didn't delete the profile, then I would get the x.1 beta update reminder eventually.

I wonder if the OS looks at the 13.x number for seeing if you can upgrade to the next version, or the build number, which could be why they didn't change it to a 17Bxxxx build number for the 13.1 beta, so it wouldn't prevent people from upgrading if the GM ends up being 13 with the features of the 13.1 beta.

Yes that is correct. For 13 iOS only tho. I meant that there was no separate 13.1 and 13.0 profiles so there's not two separate betas available. Guess I should have just left that part of the statement off. :)

No, I mean for previous profiles, not iOS 13.

If I didn't delete the original profile that got me x.0 betas, I'd eventually get prompted to install x.1 betas.

OK to be clear each major version of iOS has its profile and is only good for that one major version. So iOS12 beta profile was good for iOS12.0 thru 12.4.1 but would not get iOS13 betas. iOS13 betas required a new profile to be installed but will be good for the entire ride of iOS13-iOS13.x.

The profile has less to do with the version of the software and more to do with the directory where the software files are stored on Apple’s servers. So 13.x will be stored in a different place than 12.x.

In regards to checking for updates, that has to do with the build number.

They‘re going to label it 13.1 cause the new phones most likely ship with a few weeks old 13.0 GM to meet internal deadlines.

that’s why I personally think that Catalina will be released when iOS 13 is released... theirs just too much going on and everything needs the latest on both sides.. side car, new music app, Apple TV, Apple TV +, Siri automations, Apple Arcade, side car.. plus the iCloud changes...

Look at previous releases of iOS & MacOS. Mojave was 8 days later than iOS 12. High Sierra was 6 days after iOS 11. Sierra was 7 days after iOS 10.

So, Catalina is likely to be 23rd September.

Also, Apple TV+ isn’t until October, according to all the sources online. I don’t see Apple Arcade coming until end of September.

True, but back then people also did not have a problem managing their iOS devices from their computers still running the previous macOS/Mac OS X variants.

This year is different, as we need Catalina to manage iOS devices. Mojave won’t do it without Xcode or some sort of an iTunes update. It seems to me quite important to have a computer at hand if things go wild during iOS update or if people just want to set up their iOS devices as new and restore from a computer backup.

We should see soon enough.

No, we don’t need Catalina for that. They can just release an iTunes update for Mojave, like they’ve done in the past. You even mentioned this in your own post, so you kinda undid your own point...

Yep, but considering they are writing iTunes off, perhaps they are better off putting all their zestiness into making Catalina come earlier. ;)

Actually, thinking of it, they will need to do both, as some people won’t be able to run Catalina on their machines.

iTunes is not on Catalina, but they will still support it on the older OS’s. I can see you’ve come to that realisation of my point in the end of your post.

Will the GM not be available to public beta testers? Last year the GM of iOS 12 was released to public beta testers too
They did do this last year, but you never know with Apple. My hunch is that it will be available to the public tomorrow also, though.

I’ll be interested to see what comes out this week. I would anticipate whatever version of iOS becomes the latest greatest probably won’t come out till next week. So do we get another 13.1 beta this week? Alternatively is this a week of nothing. Guess just over 24 hrs will tell......
