Welp, I installed the IPSW. Wish me luck.

FWIW, I've been running the "pulled version" (which appears to be the same build as the GM that was later reposted in the dev portal) since Tuesday and haven't had any issues. Running smooth as glass and good battery life.

It's only been a few days, but so far I've seen improvements in general. Battery life has been excellent, going from 100% taking off the charger around 6AM and still above 40%-50% when going to bed around 11PM, with just a handful of times I've put it on the wireless charger while washing the dishes or doing something random for a moment.. Apple Watch has been pretty good on Battery life, too. Again, all still kinda early as I'd expect some indexing and stuff, but it's been good there. I was also having issues with custom notifications not playing accurately, instead playing a default sound or even playing a loud ½ ring and then muted when the phone rings. That's no longer an issue. I've STILL been having odd issues with the "Other" section in iPhone local storage taking up more than 50-60GB, up until iOS 14.1 where it's now back down to between 6-8GB. I'm finding that the Music app has been playing where I left off when connecting CarPlay. Widgets have been updating as expected (I use Carrot and a number of 3rd party widgets, not the stock Weather app).

I'm currently erasing my iPhone 11 Pro Max & Apple Watch S6 to restore from a backup. Pretty confident everything will be running just fine from here (famous last words, I know lol).

I definitely agree battery life on both iPhone 11 PM and Watch S4 has been much better since upgrading to 14.1 and 7.0.2 respectively.

Is there any disadvantage by using the IPSW file to install? Like the next release can't be easily installed via OTA or whatever?

There is no downside because it‘s one and the same, it‘s just a full-sized download via ipsw.

iPhone 8 here:

On 14.0.1 I had crazy lag on Call of Duty Mobile and it hasn’t happened since installing 14.1. I changed graphic settings and everything on the game on 14.0.1 but would still get really bad FPS. This was the case throughout the whole OS as well at random times.

Anyone else only seeing unplayed podcasts on the first tab? Up next is of course supposed to do that, but most recent isn’t. Also, if there are no unplayed episodes the first tab acts as if there are no subscriptions, not showing recently played episodes at the bottom.

Am I the only one seeing this issue? Reverting to 14.0.1 fixed, so it was definitely a 14.1 problem

I can’t remember the last time I have used such a smooth iOS version. Everything feels great, app response, animations, and even scrolling Chrome and Safari web pages haven’t been this smooth in a very long time. Not going back to 14.2, for now I’ll just enjoy this for as long as I can! 😂

iPhone XR.

Do I need to have dev profile to install via Ipsw file? Or is it the same with regular install public release using ipsw file?

Direct link:

How much newer build is version 14.1?
18A8395 vs 18A393
By the way tried to install Ipsw file for my iPad 8th generation and file from Redmond is not compatiable with my iPad although it says 7 and 8 generations.strange

If I install this version with ipsw, will stable updates continue to appear or do I have to reinstall the final version when it is released?

does anyone knows where i can get ipsw file for ipad 8th generation? the files on the web all download the 7th generation file although it says also for 8th generation..thanks

No profile needed with GM.

Those are not "from" redmond. They are direct Apple links. I suspect you chose the wrong one.

Yes, the GM is the final release and will function as normal iOS. You will get further released updates as needed. No need to reinstall.

i downloaded from two sources and still it's the same file as 7th generation and the wrong one ofcourse.i saw on ipsw.me that the file is named ipad education 2020 bla bla.the one i downloaded is named same but without 2020 in the file name.so it's the wrong ones.i suspect that they uploaded the same file twice by a mistake..and named it for the 8th generation.

Ah ok. So the link to Apple is incorrect then I suppose. Looks like the 8th gen needs the xxx 2020. The top of this chart is for 7th gen.

And why does the GM build number have 4 numbers after 18A, and the stable one that I have installed 3? excuse my ignorance...

Yeah, this build is just the GM Candidate. Highly expected that the same build will just be released to the public with the 18A395 build number, moving up from 18A393.

Just updated using ipsw file. iPad Air 3. So far so good. Only I notice battery health is down, from 99% before update to 96% after update. I am not sure what the cause, but it looks like something different on 14.1 detect battery condition.
Anyone has similar experience?
