List of Apps that (might) crash under IOS 14.5 Beta1 (and 12 Pro Max):
  • Twitter
  • Xing
  • Youtube
  • PayPal
  • hue (Philips lightning)
  • dyson
  • VRBankingClassic
  • Payback
  • Asana

... list will be continued after your reports of app-crashes
Also not having issues with Twitter, YT or PP on my 12 Pro, USA model.

By chance, did you sync your phone to a M1 Mac? There seems to be an issue when people synced their phones to their M1 Mac, lots of apps started to crash on launch. Not sure if BigSur 11.3 beta fixes it or not.

My significant locations still show by city/state and multiple entries in each.

Edit: Maybe you have a long list and it's combining them into states instead of city/state? I have 6 entries and 2 in My Places.
I have only two items in "HISTORY"- each of them is showing State. One item under My Places. No item shows city.
This has been since the starting when there were no items after setup of the iPhone as new.

Do we have a consensus of how to get Face ID while Masked to work?

I've been on and off wifi, indoors and out, with two different masks on and generally speaking, it doesn't work for me.

I get the haptic feedback on my Watch accompanied with a button indicating that I can lock my iPhone, but it doesn't actually unlock.
I just go to Settings>FaceID and Passcode>[enter passcode]>scroll down to and slide the Unlock with Apple Watch slider to the right and its on. I don't even think you need to be wearing a mask for it to work. I think it just detects that it cannot open using FaceID and rolls over to unlock with the Watch. For me, its worked just like the Mac version.

I hate to revive this old trope, but this is a beta of a new feature and so it may not be working 100% correctly for everyone.

nope, no M1 Mac in my account - Just a European 12 Pro Max ... with the newest app updates 😉

Something I noticed last night... In a Messages thread, if you type out the name of the contact with whom you're texting it turns gray. If you tap it a little picture pops up and if you tap that, the name turns blue.

Anybody know what this is?

Anyone else having the Face ID unlock the iPhone even with the eyes closed? It happens every time.

I have the face mask on over the nose and under the chin with the Unlock with Watch feature enabled.

Anybody know what this is? I did a screen capture but don't feel like going through the trouble of getting it here.

Tried it and looks like similar to how you mention or tag users in other messaging apps.

Allows a separate thread in the conversation. I guess it’s useful in group messages?

Fitness+ not streaming to Airplay 2 compatible TV.

I have updated to iOS 14.5.1 beta and WatchOS 7.4 beta yet I am not able to display Fitness+ workouts on my TCL Roku TV that is AirPlay 2 compatible. Is anyone else encountering issues with this?

that is the “notify” feature. If you make it turn blue, the person will receive a notification that you specifically texted them. Particularly useful in group chats.

Yes.

This feature shipped with iOS 14.0

2 different but related features. the one the posters above are referring to is the notification feature. You can also reply to a specific message/sender by long pressing on the message to which you wish to reply and then selecting “Reply”. That will open a separate “chat” window where you can reply to that message. The reply will still appear inline in the main thread, too, so don’t use it for “private” replies (unless you don’t want them to remain private!)

Apple TV only for now

Seems like if they detect a mask, they don't really scan for facial features (incl. attention)
It automatically switches to be authenticated with the Apple Watch.

So yea, slightly less secure for the sake of convenience.

I’m just curious. Why does WiFi need to be turned on for Face ID to unlock with the watch? Like I’m walking down a NYC street not connected to WiFi so I turn it off and Face ID says I need to turn it on for it to work.

It requires both Bluetooth and WiFi for time of flight pinging between the iPhone and Watch to determine how far the watch is with the iPhone (they are not using the U1 in S6 yet)

Therefore, same behaviour with the auto-unlock on the Mac, both bluetooth and WiFi are required.

P.S. New generation WiFi/Bluetooth has negligible battery usage, but it allows AirDrop, HandOff, better GPS and this new Apple Watch Mask unlock, so there isn't much of a reason to totally disable WiFi every now and then.
