iOS 14.5 Beta 1 ― Bug Fixes, Changes, and Improvements

For me, this is the worst beta since iOS 13. Scrolling in non-Apple apps is like 20-30fps instead of 120. Some apps even crash if you scroll long enough. It was so bad I had to restore back to 14.4.

My favourite new feature is no more typing in my Apple Watch code every morning.

Now when I unlock my phone it unlocks the Watch as well, clever stuff!

I thought it had always done this.
Now I see I am one of many to reiterate this point 😱🤭

Went to bed last night IPP was at 70%. Got up 8 hours later and the battery is still at 70%.
Unlimited Standby time or?

Not sure if this is the OS or app.
This feature worked under Beta 1 original.

Opened email with interactive PDF attached. Opened pdf. Action Menu to copy to PDF Expert - I use this to sign documents.
Document opens and I get a popup telling me I have signable fields. Close the popup and the app crashes.
Save the attachment in Files from Mail or into the iCloud. Open in PDF Expert and get the same behavior.
Only had this issue since the revised beta 1.

The difference is that now you get a notification on the phone when the watch gets unlocked. So maybe some people didn‘t realize that feature until 14.5 ;-)

I’ll have to keep an eye open for that notice. I don’t recall seeing that notice.

So for this beta on my iPhone 12 Pro has been doing well (installed 7 PM yesterday).

Hopefully it gets fixed soon. I have the same behavior for Outlook and Teams which are both for my work.

Corporate/Enterprise apps most likely won’t allow connections to beta/pre-release app versions… a version or two down maybe, but almost never up.

They re-released beta 1 (with a new build #) yesterday. Nothing in the release notes as to what they changed though.

I am unable to add a Microsoft authenticator account on this beta.

I still can’t believe that Apple is unable or unwilling to change FaceId in such a way that you don’t need to touch your phone to unlock it.

So now I need to buy a watch to be able to do that. A 1000 Dollar device that is not protecting my health and makes me touch the Surface also to unlock my phone.

Its not aceptable in pandemic times.

US Models seem to have no problems with most of these apps

They fixed the app-crashes for the European Versions. In my case I could't use a lot of apps like Youtube, Twitter, etc. -> new build fixed this

Nope. BT and WiFi on. Had several apps in the manager. Was reading on Kindle, placed into Magic Keyboard and closed. Went to bed.

Seriously strange. I am watching today to see if there are any unexplained sudden drops.
