I'm surprised nobody is talking about how they dropped support for Series 3 with this update. Refuses to install on my watch. It either insists that it's updated maximally, or that my phone is out of date. Super frustrating of Apple to do this.

Have tried:

Re pairing watch to phone

"Updating" phone to 14.4 then to 14.5 again

Completely erasing phone and trying to pair from completely stock 14.5

Pairing on separate iPhones on 14.3, 14.4 and 14.5 respectively

Trying to update over Wifi and Cellular

Erasing watch completely

Pairing watch to family member's phone and attempting to update

Erasing development iPhone and starting completely fresh from 14.5 IPSW

At this point, I don't think it's a mistake; pretty obvious they have dropped support for whatever ****ing reason. So ****** of them to do though.
I hope your wrong! They still sell the series 3 brand new and that would be really garbage of them. Maybe it's just something in beta one or your phone/watch combo having an issue

The person may have been insinuating you can use the phone’s passcode for Apple Pay
That, too, was already mentioned in the original post — it's the second sentence.

Getting back on track — this beta seems pretty solid on my 12 Pro Max, aside from the Safari issue that was fixed by disabling HTTP/3 (and all the rest of the experimental features, just to be sure) and killing Safari in the task switcher.

Now I need to find out if they've done anything about one of the more perplexing bugs I've encountered in recent years: the Music app crashing in CarPlay at the top of the hour — every hour. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Intune enrolled device with managed outlook, teams, and other apps. No issues on my iPhone 12 Pro Max.
Interesting, this is not working for me. All company apps refuse to open (open and close immediately). I tried dis-enrolling and reenrolling my device in Intune, but apps still crash.

updated to 14.5 & watch OS 7.4 for 2 hours.
Great update !
5G in dual sim mode , unlock with apple watch , Best Feature !

saw the note in the wiki post about the Webkit error. I had the same thing, but disabling HTTP/3 didn’t fix it. Enabling Automatic HTTPS upgrade in Experimental Features did

I’m seeing this on 14.4.

Ah, seems like it must've been a server-side change around the same time?

I updated to 14.5 beta this morning mainly so I could get 5G with dual sim’s. It works great as does the unlock with mask, just used it before in Bunnings (big hardware warehouse here in Australia).

However looks like a bug of 14.5 is CarPlay no longer works, well at least not for my car (2019 Ford Ranger with SYNC 3). Anyone else having issues with CarPlay after updating?

I have exactly the same issue. Anything with an App Protection Policy seems to crash

Known issue in the release notes?

Known Issues

  • Some vehicles can’t start CarPlay if the iPhone is set to share contacts over CarPlay. (71458958)

FWIW, works fine in my MY17 Impreza.

That would be great, except the first six words of his post are "I don't have an Apple Watch".

To be fair, as a non-watch owner, I'd forgotten that my use case (unlocking the phone for Apple Pay) was solved with the watch even before this new unlock-with-a-mask-on feature came. I guess people were just pointing that out.

Do you really think they would do that without announcing it? Really?

I love how people think that because their device has an issue with a beta that somehow Apple has gone rogue and just started altering fundamental building blocks of its business. “My phone stutters…must be planned obsolescence.” “A beta won’t install…must be that Apple its discontinuing support for a product it is still selling.” And so on and so on….

I get the frustration with issues like this. No one likes to be left out because of something peculiar about their physical device that prevents software from loading. I’d be mad too. But this is beta software we are talking about. Almost by definition it has issues, particularly in early versions. One of those issues may be related to installation on devices with a particular configuration. Or not. Maybe there’s a problem with the device. Who knows? But it happens because it’s beta software.

I am only going on like this because these types of posts really have a depressive effect on the thread as a whole.

Dude, I'm not having an issue with a beta. It literally won't install on *stock* watchOS...

The empty/glitched text box upon opening a message thread in the Messages app appears to be fixed for me. Haven’t had the bug rear it’s ugly head since installed 14.5 B1.

Was really hoping this would be fixed but it started happening for me last night and into the morning again… submitted feedback (again) mostly happens in group chats, but I have also noticed it happening when attempting to txt anyone, either via iMessage or regular SMS txt.

feedback - FB8986534
I have attached screen shots and a screen recording of the bug.

I have both MS Teams and outlook crashing on launch after 14.5 - anyone found a work around or tried an uninstall reinstal?
I tried to uninstall / reinstall teams with no luck. I've also tried to downgrade (without restoring / clearing data) to 14.4 but it left my iPhone 12 mini stuck on the restore screen afterwards. Luckily re-upgrading to the 14.5 beta let me get back to a working device with no data loss, but still no fix for the broken MS apps.
