IP12PM RC
Now my phone heats up considerably when browsing this forum. Also just tried to accept a meeting through the calendar app and the app froze. Hard boot fixed it for a short while. Closed all tabs in Safari, no difference. not getting hot right now, but it seemed random anyway. On WiFi.
Original update was OTA, so updated again with IPSW. Calendar still freezes when trying to accept a meeting. Not getting hot right now, will see.

Here's what I'm seeing in the crash logs:

So, looks like it's something related to Apple Music radio stations — even though I never actually listen to those. 😛 Maybe it's something that can be fixed server-side?

ADDENDUM: I was able to get the Music app working by disabling cellular data access (Settings -> Music -> Cellular Data: Off) — that seems to keep the app from downloading whatever radio station data is causing the app to crash, at least for me.
Not really a viable workaround if you are attempting to listen to music that isn't sitting local on your phone though. Turn off cellular data and you're hosed unless you are sitting in your driveway or operating off of a connected hotspot, right?

In my experience it doesn’t matter what version you are on. There are random ads on here that spike the cpu usage. The only way to stop it is to hope you are lucky and don’t get an ad that does that!

After upgrading to 14.6 RC, Music is entirely unusable. If you touch the icon on the left, it immediately switches back to dashboard view and music will stop after only a second or two. Pressing play on dashboard view does nothing.

The only way to play music is to start it on the phone, defeating the purpose of CarPlay. If you do this, it works until you try to switch to Music from the dashboard view.

Wow...the first "real" bug I've had in beta testing in a long time...and almost glad to see I'm not alone.

Just went to grab lunch and Music app on CarPlay crashed as well as stopped music app on phone.

Like others, music still plays through system, but only if I start on the phone. Touching the Music app on CarPlay cause immediate crash of Music.

Phone, Message and Maps worked fine for me on CarPlay on this short drive.

Feedback being submitted now.

Doesn't seem like a beta issue. People on many different public versions are also experiencing this.

This results in you not being able to stream at all though right?
Correct — I should have specifically noted that I use CarPlay to play music synced to my iPhone from the macOS Music app, not streamed. Obviously, without a working data connection, streaming isn't an option.

Car play using music crashes all the time this can’t be the public version

I am on beta and it also crashes.
I think they meant it affects people also not on the beta, rather than only not on the beta. The timing is probably just coincidental, given that the 14.6 RC was released the same day as the big Apple Music changes were announced — it's probably some radio-related feature they posted for the latter that CarPlay doesn't like, and nobody bothered to test it internally before pushing it to production.

For those interested in a bit more on lossless changes, here is a decent article from 9to5mac
That’s a great article, thank you.

As someone who has an external DAC yesterday’s announcement was great news for me. I have high-res music on my iDevices (Apple’s music app already supports the playing of 24 bit audio up to 192K) and I also stream high-res using Tidal or Amazon Music HD. My iDevice is then cabled to a Chord Hugo 2 with wired headphones. As reported in the article Bluetooth cant handle even CD quality.

The great news for me is that

a) Amazon yesterday removed the additional £5 per month charge for Amazon HD, and more significantly

b) since Apple can’t deliver hi-res audio without a wired connection they have just committed to having wired ports on future products. You can charge a device wirelessly but you can’t play Hi-res wirelessly. Of course advances to Airplay could change that, but not for a while.

I’m glad I’m not the only one having issues with CarPlay music and now playing app’s crashing. Was working fine yesterday before updating to the RC. I’ve reported this in feedback as well. All other apps work fine.

Even if I was trying to play music saved to my phone?
I’m having the same issue. Even music on my phone crashes the app so I don’t think it would be a server issue. If I have a song playing then by either using my cars button to see what music is playing the music stops and the app crashes. Does the same thing if I scroll to the music app on the screen. Only way I can get music to play after the app crashes is by asking Siri.
