Apple needs to adopt that whole precipitation graph including the scale. Without it, no indication of what the histogram means. This is much more useful.

Isn’t that basically what’s in the weather app though? I’m confused.

This interface for selecting phone speaker options looks new and nicely refined

I have Dark Sky, running, with the feature working there, so not sure what you mean....

It‘s been removed from Android and will sooner or later have the same fate on iOS I bet. And you showing that the graph works outside of the US just shows that the current weather app implementation being US only is quite lazy.

I assumed it being removed from Android was due to Apple buying Dark Sky. They might leave the app as it is on iOS. Or just fully merge it into the core Weather app. 🤔

That‘s what I‘m saying. Their end goal is probably to have the native Weather app upgraded to match and replace Dark Sky on iOS.
That‘s why it‘s mind boggling to me that they only have the rain forecast for US when it‘s clear that it works outside of the US already... them gimping the availability of a feature on purpose.

Maybe they haven’t implemented or incorporated any of the Dark Sky data yet - the app still says it’s powered by The Weather Channel. I have no idea. Let’s at least wait past the very first developer beta of the brand new OS before we jump to “Apple is intentionally screwing us”.

It IS a beta, after all...

The point of the graph is to show the intensity of precipitation over the time depicted. Without a scale on the left side (Y-axis), we have no idea what this means. 0.01" per segment (the segments (x-axis) look to be 2 minute increments), 0.1" per segment or what? Or is it "a little" or "a lot" per segment?

The rain forecast is Dark Sky and it‘s available in more than just the US (at least in the Dark Sky app).

Has nothing to do with the beta stage, the keynote slide and the iOS 14 feature preview page highlighted that the rain forecast is US only.

Until its not. if rumors are to be believed, Apple is shifting its rollout methodology from front loading everything into the major release and only minor changes in the point releases, to rolling out new features all year long, as they become good enough to ship. My guess is that the Dark Sky acquisition happened late enough in the game that they did not have time to implement the histogram worldwide (notwithstanding that it was available widely outiside the US in Dark Sky). Just because it may not make it to 14.0 doesn't mean it won't make it into 14.1, 14.2., etc...

How do you know this? I’m asking because other apps and websites (like TWC) have their own forecasts for precipitation, too. Dark Sky uses their own data (forecast.io I believe, or at least it used to be); I don’t see Apple using their newly-acquired hyper accurate rain forecasting, but also simultaneously still using TWC’s less-than-stellar general weather reporting.

US only is probably just at launch, and they might be saying that, as they're not sure if any other countries will be ready at that time. Could be that 14.1 will see an expansion (so around October/November).

Or 14.0b2, b3, etc...

Apple does this sometimes with maps throughout the beta cycle.

If they were planning on rolling this out to more countries they wouldn‘t plaster US only everywhere it‘s advertised to the general public.

They can change it, at any point up until release..... If they advertise as US only now, then when they do the iPhone event, announce that this feature will now be available in US, Canada, UK, etc, it then looks better, as they’re delivering more than what was promised.

Or, they might say that it’s coming to other countries soon.

Basically, until iOS 14 is released, you cannot say it’s not going to change.

I’ll hold to my thinking that it comes out in point releases later. The fact that they did say “US” as relates to iOS 14.0 does not count for nothing. It’s not dispositive but clearly evidences their intent. Else they could have said nothing.

I just noticed that the SQUARE option for photos is gone... don't think that's new with iOS 14, but not completely sure.
Just checked my 11 Pro and it’s gone, not that I ever used it, but I’m sure some people do.

Adam.

Thrre on my iPhone 11 Pro... just a bit cumbersome:

In Photos, go to an All Photos view, then select the three dots (...), then select Aspect (or Box, if you’ve already changed this)
