I had the same bug. I dont know why it happens but i found a way to update. Download the ipsw file if you haven’t already and update your iPhone manually using Shift+Update button in iTunes.
If you have already downloaded the firmware using iTunes (Windows 10) you can find it at : \Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates
You are an absolute legend!!
Thank you so much for this information.
After 6 unsuccessful attempts I was coming close to going through with the OTA update but then I found your suggestion. :D

Initially I may have received this error because my phone auto locked. Not sure if iTunes then kept looping on this error.
Anyway I followed the trouble shooting for this error : I made sure that I had the latest iTunes, rebooted twice even, I connected iPhone 8 directly to PC (Windows 10), turned off auto lock on my iPhone, closed iTunes, re-plugged the cable... but to no avail.

The Error 4000 kept occurring at the Restore point for some reason.

Anyway I've now successfully updated my iPhone 8 from iOS 11.4.1.
And it only took around 20 minutes to update. It really wasn't long at all.
I would imagine it would take waaaay longer using OTA.

Update: I've tested my apps and force touch etc and everything is sweet. Very smooth. Loving it!!!

Thanks again notCoffee! ;)
You made the update experience a pleasant one for me.

I toggled off “App Clips” and now the option and icon are gone from the menu. The icon disappeared. I even had Siri search for it and she directed me to the App Store for an app called “clips” but that’s not what I wanted. I even tried searching for it using the search function on the iPhone and it’s gone.

Anyone have any ideas?

I want to toggle it back on.

I'm on iPhone XS-Max and I'm still having major keyboard issues on the new iOS 14 release.
This was known during the betas but it never got fixed on my phone.
It's worst in Messages. But seems to be system wide.

The Apple Mail app takes ages to fetch new email since updating to IOS 14, overall IOS 14 is good so far, few minor issues I'm sure it will get fixed in IOS 14.0.1

Thanks, this worked! But the location of the IPSW file is somewhere else, because I installed through Windows Store.

...so a noob question: Is the App Library supposed to replace the folders which people already have on their screens then?

To me, the library seems like its just a duplication of the apps one already has in folders but in a single list instead. Is the idea that we remove the screens with the apps and then have widgets for the most used apps and use the App Library for everything else?

It's more for those that don't really deal with folders or organize their apps.

Since updating to iOS14 my notification sound and vibration don't work during a call when I get iMessage or whatsapp messages. Only a banner appears. Anyone else has this bug and/or knows how to solve it?

That’s really for you to decide; if you have lots of folders of apps just to hide stuff you don’t frequently use then it sorts that out for you. Otherwise you can just ignore it and leave everything on your home screen however you like it.

For me, I still have a lot of folders but I’ve cleared upa good number of them by relegating them to the library. Feelsgoodman

Spotted a potential UI bug here, anyone else seen similar?
Notice the little X on the Mail app is flickering when in jiggle mode in the App Library. Phone restart hasn’t helped.

EDIT: Seems related to the translucency and wallpaper; changing to a solid colour background stops it from happening.

It was hard for Apple to find new ways to introduce bugs into the Mail app after their excellent effort with iOS 13. You have to give them credit for this one.

...so is the old widget screen still present on iOS 14 (the one which was on the left of the home screen in pre iOS 14)?

If it is then why would anybody choose to have widgets on the home screen when you can just have the same ones on the screen on the left?

It's still there. Some people might want to have certain widgets right on their Home Screen so they don't have to swipe anywhere and essentially always see them when they are on their Home Screen. Options aren't a bad thing to have, and not making use of them is an option in itself.

Outlook is working good as default to anyone? Mine goes always to native Mail app albeit being selected Outlook...

Because perhaps I don't want widgets all over my homescreen - its just about giving users choice

So, no one else has this bug? I'll try restoring the device. Hope that helps...

So why can I not select 3rd party widgets (Google maps, Windey etc)? They are still in the Today View (far left screen), or have I missed something??

Well you posted misleading information. Seeing "14.0" tells the user absolutely nothing valuable in the context you indicated. So I will be that guy. But thank you for your concern.
Only if they change the version number. The GM is what they plan to release, I have it installed, and done just that, software say's 14.0
How is that misleading? Taking the answer in context, which you have failed to do. The OP of the question asked if they would be prompted to download the public release, the answer, as I stated is 'no, not unless they update the version number.' That at the end is for information, and the person who received it did not get 'mislead'.
