Apple released Xcode GM 7 hours ago, and that meant they could start submitting them then. Usually there's a week between this and the public release of iOS x.0, meaning there is time for these app updates to be submitted, reviewed and released. Since that gap is non-existent, won't see any apps today using the new iOS 14 things like the new widget style.

I’ll take it ? hopefully the big developers have been keeping themselves busy making some decent widgets. ??

They might have, but all depends on when they then get them through the Xcode 12 GM and then when they submit them to Apple, and how long Apple take to review.

i think Apple is going to be approving updates at record speed.

Still, it's not going to be instant. Takes time, plus depends on how many devs submit straight away. Just setting expectation that you're extremely unlikely to see any straight away.

Also for some bigger apps, Apple may have already given them inside information about the release date etc. to have apps ready to go

Being given dates is not much, as all developers have had access to Xcode 12 betas, so the could do them, but still, they have to run the apps through the GM version of Xcode to then be able to submit them. All devs would know that the GM would come after yesterdays event. Not all developers would have been sat waiting for the GM and then be on the ball to get straight on running it through GM and then submitting.

From some of the few app devs I follow on Twitter, they were all shocked about the release but were still able to submit an iOS 14 compatible build and have the app pass thru app review at a very fast pace. Devs have the ability to hold app updates until a specific time, too. So be ready for yet another mass app update after release this afternoon.

One thing about this quick public release is that there won’t be any 3rd party widgets using the new style on launch, since Xcode GM only came out a couple hours ago.
That statement makes no sense. Devs had access to the tools for months now and if they aren‘t ready to recompile with the final SDK then that‘s on them.

App Store approval queues are faster for new releases because Apple wants people to upgrade to the new OS. I went through 2 major releases where I submitted an update less than 24h before the public release and it was always live within a few hours at most.

they had the whole summer to test, thats what betas are for

There is always the chance that the Xcode code is different at each beta release... including GM. At the least, apps will meet to be recompiled by the dev, tested by the dev and submitted to Apple for review/approval. That process could take some time, depending on the app and its functions/complexity.

It’s not a matter of the devs just being lazy. It’s also a matter of this process being different this year (the time between GM and GA) that caught decks off-guard.

That’s probably just general support, like apps coming out last week saying the same. Unless they have widgets, then can’t tell either way

still got to check it and push it thru Xcode GM to make sure no new issues.

Previously there was a week between GM and public release, so that helps the queue for review approval. Seeing as there’s 24 hours, if loads allpile in, there will be a bottleneck....

True, but these apps had to go through GM Xcode, as well... Apple is pushing the approvals through, so it's on the developer to get the app ready...
