I personally think that Apple might put this mini design into SE. I have no source, nothing else to support this, and hence this is just a thought, not a 'claim' and certainly not a rumour that I am hoping to spread. It is only a personal thought. (all this as a disclaimer for the angry, entitled disagree-er gentry)

For me, the mini design has been rather perfect, ergonomically. A huge part of that has to do with the edginess/ boxiness. I say this because I tried out the 'regular' 13 and while it is larger than the iPhone 8, I found that it was 'manageable' and I was going to pay for that, but it was not available right then. Hence, picked the 13 mini. I almost had my heart set on the 13 because it was manageable as against the 8's slipperiness that necessitated a case. I did not even book it because I also saw that Safari does not make good use of the extra screen space at all.

I hope they do not kill the mini size (both from flagship and SE). I am even ready for them to make it on order and charge higher for it, that's because if I cannot use a 2000-inch phone even though a sizeable part of the world loves it, it means I cannot use an iPhone! So, if I can pay higher for a 1500-inch iPhone that might suit me ergonomically, I would get that one. The people who want a smaller device should be given a smaller device, else Apple loses that market.

I look forward to their hardware design changes after Ive. The new MacBook Pro 16 that I use has been great, and I do think that they may go for a substantial redesign of the iPhone in September 2022 (although who knows!) but in 2 years' time when they would likely also kick the notch out and vilify it just as they had brought it in after glorifying it, even though they have always tried to hide it in marketing materials. Considering Apple is focusing more on hardware gimmicks and attraction rather than software improvements, I am quite sure they would rather remove the notch or change up the materials just to create a flutter of desire in people, as against any substantial, meaningful improvements because the space seems somewhat saturated.

Some of the large-handed ones might disagree with me, because of their sense of entitlement. Some might laugh, again, because they cannot understand it. However, I would actually love 3 sizes always, the mini, what people call regular, and what Apple calls the max. That actually creates a middle ground for everyone out there and they can buy the size they feel comfortable with best.

Pinhole for the Pro phones, not for the normal. So iPhone 14 (notch) iPhone 14 pro (pinhole) “apparently” fun times ahead.

And there’s ios16

I do hope they make good changes to both macOS and iOS to bring them up to speed with modern times.

My statement is about simple things such as Messages on macOS still not supporting batch deletion.

It’s about no ability to have utility apps such as Calculator float on screen above apps in iOS.

It’s not funny, it’s now insulting to the consumer.

Still waiting for an explanation how they will bring the sensors for Face ID under the display.
Where is the analyst who can give me further details?

Let’s look at this another way …

My OnePlus 9 Pro has a pinhole front facing camera.
It has password unlock.
It has pattern unlock.
It has Fingerprint unlock.
It has Face unlock.

While the Face Unlock is not as goos as FaceID, it is very good and uses the pinhole.

If OnePlus can get it to work, why can’t Apple?

Like you said… currently it would only work if you drop the Face ID technology in favour of a simple „photo unlock“.
Would be possible of course, the main challenge here would be on the Apple marketing team after they have promoted Face ID so much.

There's a reason Apple uses FaceID rather Face unlock. The latter is inherently much less secure.

I know.
Still not clear how Apple should achieve the combination of Face ID and a punch hole notch in the 2022 iPhones.
People hyping the so called predictions by the analysis - but no one really has a clue how this should be possible.

@Banglazed @sbailey4

First thing I do is update for the 12s firmware and carrier, because I only have a 12. Normally follows by a firmware change message if it’s changed ??

Shouldn’t be all left to Banglazed though, its group housekeeping for the forum, done by us all.

Just like @MozMan68 does a sterling job updating our release dates. ??
Thanks! I try to as well.
There's a reason it is a Wiki, everyone with over a 100 posts can contribute! Some of us do, most of us do not bother. I try and update what is not there but relevant as and when it happens.
I agree. To clarify my point was not for @Banglazed to do it all but to remove the old info when he copies the thread so the info is not there until everyone updates it with correct info. I suspect people see something in those sections and assume its correct and never update it. Just a thought/suggestion.

OK so I updated the Modem firmware for the listed models on page 1. Hopefully this will help going forward. And as an aside, it does appear ALL devices went back to the 15.2 beta 2 versions (1 version back from 15.2 RC).

I was only speaking in general, not pointing any fingers at all. I know people such as yourself do update the Wiki. :)

I have to agree, I have been running 15.3 beta 1 for about 12 hours now and it seems like everything is running great !! (Knock on wood) notifications are working flawlessly.. Only thing I have not tested that was crap on 15.2 was the geo-fencing of a few apps I have .. testing them later today, one that simply never worked right was my August home lock system..?
Hi, I am getting no notifications at all when my phone is rested. No audio or visible notification. When I pick up my phone they are there. Wondering if there are any settings I have missed?

Hi All, just answered this , it appears if you have an Apple Watch, notifications to your (dormant) phone do not work in iOS 15 unless your watch is off ? I missed this somewhere in all the release notes !

IP12 on iOS 15.3b1 with a series 5 watch on 8.4b1 all working fine here.
I get no iPhone wake at all if my Watch receives notifications. Seems there is a thread on the Apple forums confirming this is now how it works. If watch is off or on charge the notifications do work when iPhone is rested. Mine follows this exact behaviour. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/253217242

That is very interesting, it points to a flaw somewhere that affects ALL devices.
I don't think so, because in each beta I have been using the mobile as a wifi access point because the adsl connection that we have in my area is 7Mb and with the data the download of the ipsw files is faster, and in beta 2 this modem it was much better than now. I did not have these coverage losses, and less the drainage when sharing the internet with the mobile. I just used it and I spend 6% in 15 minutes, the same as I was spending until now to download 7Gb, which is usually about 40 minutes. I do not understand this change for the worse, and less to a version of the modem that has been used with better results. I suppose that the operator version will also influence, because these if it stayed the same as in ios 15.2 final. I have tried to find some way to put the 15.2 modem, but this here is impossible from what I see.

How is that behavior different/changed? I don't wear a watch anymore but when I did, the phone didn't wake unless that app's notifications were disabled on the Watch app.

It hasn’t for me. It’s always been watch only when I’m wearing it and then phone will kick in when I take off the watch. It’s also how I would expect it to be. I don’t want duplicate notifications on watch and phone each time.

Hope they bring Touch ID for the power button.

IMO the best position for the finger print sensor.

But I want it with the iPhone 14 Pro, which should keep the notch anyway.

I really loved the home buttons’ position and using my thumb for scanning Touch-ID. Specially with a larger iPhone (6 Plus) it’s more convenient bring my thumb to the home button imho. Anyway time will tell.
