For me an iCloud restore is generally quick except:
1. it seems to take forever for all the apps to download
2. some of my data cannot be backed up to the iCloud (work)
Apps have to download from the App Store regardless of a restore from your computer or iCloud. That and photos are the most time consuming part of a restore but again depending on your internet connection (and number of apps) it can proceed fairly quickly. Back in the “old” days when we had a much slower connection at home I would go to a friend’s place to do this. He had a very high speed (for that time) connection. But I think I’ve only done this once when it wasn’t for a new device, it’s been so long I only have a vague memory of ever doing it except when setting up a new device. Now between the quick set up - from old device to the new one - and iCloud restores from backup this is really a simple and easy process for anyone.

Please tell me it gets better then this I’m probably going to do a backup on my Mac, then re-install from the IPSW then run the backup back on

It doesn't get much better. Do what you are planning to do. I did and now the system data has been categorized for me and the number hangs around 0KB - 23KB (Yes KB).

Since I did my 13PM, mine has been hanging between 5-7 GB.
Then again I have a lot of work related stuff going on on my device so that may inflate it.
I’ve never seen it the same number twice. Just checked and it was about 3GB. Earlier when I made my previous post it was just over 2. I only check when I see these posts. It varies so much from minute to minute I’ve never found it relevant.

I'll happily take 4-6gb. when I was on the release of 15.4.1 that was around 9gb which I thought was still quite high

I just looked up an article that said 5-20GB is normal and the system is constantly deleting files or data over time so it will rarely if ever be the same, check it a hundred times a day and it will show a hundred different numbers. If you do a lot of streaming it can increase significantly. Syncing to your computer is a quick way of eliminating a lot of that especially diagnostic files that all of your apps are creating.

Encrypt back to mac.
Content and settings erase.
Then it prompts you to set up as new or restore from back up.
Restore from back up.

Really quick process only took me 40mins, and my phones been running like box fresh. Really can’t believe it. Storage data is down from 10/12 gigs to 4.

Everything feels so smooth, responsive/snappy… just like a brand new phone. Mad. It definitely worth a try. Even to spring clean your phone.

I was on iOS15.5 B1 for this process. ??

Why are you all wasting your time doing this, just to temporarily clear down the storage data usage? It'll come back to where it was before in a few days.
in my case, owning a 64gb iPhone, its really annoying to have more than 20gb unusable because of that...
I dit it so I could immediately install other apps/games that I've been wanting to download but I couldn't before.

And that’s really the only reason to be concerned about this. I have seen various posts over the years about people getting the warning about not enough space to install an update or some other item. That is relatively rare but would be the only time I would ever even check(except for these threads:)). So completely understandable in your situation.

System data is comfy around 4/6gigs.
It certainly hasn’t jumped back up to 12.

So that was well worth doing for my phone.

I’m keeping a log of these occurrences. Will post here when I have a bunch.

Could you also add the UK paragraph issue please? It occurs when saying “full stop“ and at least half of the time it will then add a new paragraph. This issue has existed for years and they still haven’t fixed it but it doesn’t happen when the phone is set to US. Ta

Edit: sorry this is the long-standing dictation issue so perhaps doesn’t full under the issue you’re logging?

This is a followup on my 13 ProMax and WiFi issues.
As asked, I tried disabling WiFi calling to see if that would affect my WiFi or all to often switches to 5G (when on wifi) issues.

Had no affect at all.
have turned WiFi calling back on as it seems to improve connectivity with MS Teams calls.
It should have been Wifi Assist (not wifi calling). Try that instead. :)

Now, posting this in the right thread

This build is the best I have seen my battery drain overnight on my PM13. Still at 100% over 12 hours overnight.
Still seeing great battery life here as well on iPhone 13 mini with charging only to ~80% once an evening. Says something very obviously positive when the mini’s battery is far inferior to that of the Pro Max.

Hopefully Apple keeps it up at least across ensuing versions of 15.5 since I’m sure things understandably won’t be so peachy on early builds of iOS 16.
