You must be referring to another email response I’m not familiar with. Or you could be confusing an IPSW restore with an update.
In response to my email he mentioned there’s no difference between the two. And that neither one is inherently better than the other.

I was referring to post 43.

I’ve not mentioned a restore.
You can reinstall, there’s a difference, the iOS without doing a restore. Not confused here, are you?

They are binary identical. We know that now. There is no difference in the two.

But there is in respect to what bugs a phone has after an OTA update and IPSW update (tested on iOS 15.4.1)

We found two bugs on the OTA iPhones, which the IPSW iPhones didn’t have…even after all the reboots. Which we’ve submitted to him and hopefully ?? he will redpond at some point helping us understand what’s going on.

That the IPSW instal should have got rid of the bug. See the wording change.

So why bother doing an OTA, just save yourself the time and the chance of any bugs from an OTA instal and update using IPSW, if this is the Apple way to fix bugs.
It's faster and easier to do OTA, and I've never encountered an issue in the years of OTA beta updates that I've done so...I continue to take the easy path.

If I encounter an issue that people say is fixed by an IPSW reinstall...I'll try it then, but until then, not gonna make more work for myself for no reason.

Not a valid test. Your data sample is too small for it to be considered anything but a coincidence.

Please keep us posted of any responses from Craig.

Yeah totally. I’m just trying to get the bottom of something as I’m genuinely really interested in finding an answer for.

@Bobout I’ve just OTA this update. You do what you normally do with IPSW update.

As we have both just come from IPSW updates of iOS 15.4.1 and couldn’t replicate any of the OTA updates bugs, let’s see what happens now and go a bug a huntin. Ye harrr.

I feel dirty after doing that ??

Straight off the bat, Mail won’t update. Hangs off of “checking for mail” on wifi and cellular connection.

I’ll try a couple of reboots. FFS.

ADD TO THIS: phone is now very hot on the back right side if flipped over just below camera mounting.

1) Inertia when scrolling on the Mac with the Magic Keyboard is still not fixed. Gestures don’t work either. :(

2) Is the bold/italic on the ipad floating bar new?

3) When using the Safari’s address bar, the search shows how many matches are found on the page. Is it new?

15.5 feeling fresher than my lemon berry kombucha 😛 scrolling on safari on both iPad 9 and iPhone 13 mini feels quite impressively smooth for 60hz devices, especially on the iPhone. Screen color temp (probs true tone since I have that on) seems a bit warmer, something I always tend to prefer. Ushering in summer vibes in the land up over!

Anyone else’s notification banners changed from “Temporary” to “Persistent”?
Apps like Messages, Calendar and Health automatically changed to Persistent banner style.
