iOS 15.4 ProMotion 2.0 was smoother than the whipped cream I had on my left nipple the other night.

Cant comment on iOS 15.5 yet, hopefully it’s the same.
After every update is iOS smoother because something like a system cache is cleared. After few days of use it's behave like before.

In practice a Recovery Mode Restore downloads the current IPSW and installs it after erasing the phone storage. A Recovery Mode Update would do the same thing as the Recovery Mode Restore but not erase the phone storage.

Yeah I know. These are ways I’ve used…

To update a phone
• OTA
• IPSW (Tethered + Finder)
• DFU mode. (If you really needed to)

To re-install/downgrade just the iOS saving your data
(This is a great fast way to use for the iOS, unless you need a full, slightly longer process, restore doing)

• IPSW + Finder + alt + check for update button (Then you can manually select the iOS you want to reinstall, update or downgrade)

Downgrade will only let you this way, if it lets you, from what I’ve witnessed, otherwise use the restore method. I’ve used this method to go 15.1, back to 15, up to 15.2 for example with great ease and success.

To restore a phone
• IPSW Tethered + Finder (let it run automatically for the latest official release or hold alt and manually select the downloaded IPSW to stay on your beta or preferred iOS)
• DFU mode. (Emergency)

Personally I’ve only ever used DFU mode when my phone bricked once, an emergency, as there are options now in finder which have the same out come depending on your phones status.

I’m sure people do other iterations of the above, these are just ways I’ve used and trusted. 👍🏼

OTA !!! You dirty boy !! Shame .. ill update tomorrow when I get some time, let me know all the bugs you get now ..

Mail takes ages to update. Sometimes have to quit out a few times.

Worked like lightening on 15.4.1

Done a network reset, standard beta behaviour, and 3 reboots.

Next step will be reinstalling the beta, but if it persists, will downgrade back to 15.4.1

Currently on 15.5, looks the same as 15.4 to me.

(If we win at the Etihad, I'll put whipped cream on both your nipples.)
Going to be a tough game at the emptyhad. The quadruple quest is still alive though. ?

if 15.5 is the same as 15.4, that’s good enough for me.

Yep, the whole OS is definitely smoother after a update, it’s like the OS dropped a load off at the ??

Like others were saying on here, ProMotion was on steroids on 15.4. ????

Last week I received more than 20 apps updates.
Apple soon will require developers to built new apps via Xcode 13.
It might help to improve performance of whole operating system. ?

Overnight battery drain on 13 mini seems reduced and battery life in general seems to be better so far than 15.4(.1). Animations feel slightly faster, at least with Reduce Motion enabled, and wifi reception seems better/stronger/more reliable (the connection is dropping in areas/rooms farther from router way less frequently than before). I’ll be able to test out with cellular tomorrow at my other workplace where there isn’t accessible wifi and where there is weak cellular reception.

Installed OTA and without performing any resets, only a standard full restart and a sync with iTunes. Thus far 15.5 is looking to be quite solid, which at this point it should be!

To me ProMotion 2.0 would ramp down to 1 Hz where the current version ramps down to 10 Hz.

One other data point to support this. Not conclusive by any means but food for thought
A couple of other possibilities behind that increased free memory report:
  • The device hasn't been running 15.5b1 for long enough post-update to have as many apps or background processes loaded into memory as the 15.4.1 figure
  • 15.5b1 could be more aggressive at terminating apps and background processes to keep memory free (increased frequency of JetsamEvent logs would be a good indicator of this)
They would need to check on it after a few days of running the beta to see if their observed behavior is consistent, or if memory utilization returns to pre-update levels.

After 30 minutes of using iOS 15.5 public beta I have less than 200 mb of free ram.
