Did you see the video's I posted? When a website has content fixed at the bottom (tab bar for example) the page length will not adapt when the URL bar collapses and hence a lot of space is wasted. It is easier to watch the video than to explain.
It‘s up to the individual pages to adapt to the device paddings. WebKit exposes variables to account for device limitations / paddings. These were introduced with iPhone X, mainly for landscape mode but they also apply to horizontal.

Did you file a bug report?

New Safari changes make it downright ugly to look at and take up space at the bottom obscenely. Beta 5 had it right. All they needed was a toggle. They didn’t have to do this.

After 5 betas, my muscle memory is searching for buttons that are pushed below. This is unfortunate.

All they needed to do was create a toggle for people to choose from the two designs, not for where the tab bar would be. That’s it.

As it stands, I’m now back on the old iOS 14 style because now that is what takes the least space on screen.

Glad that iOS is now on weekly schedule, I cannot tolerate this for a week. It also means I will have to use a different browser on iOS, something I have never needed to do ever since my first iPhone.

Reverting to iOS 14 style also means losing the gesture navigation in the tabs. Disastrous.

Beta 5 was just right for that design, all they needed to do was add this toggle for the old design.

To be fair (to be faaaaaiiir), B5 needed some slight tweaking with the positioning of reload, etc. Otherwise yes, I agree that B5 should be the implementation Apple sticks with.

For the heck of it, can anyone give a third party camera app a go and try to record a video to see if it has sound?

I want to be sure it's not just not my phone or user error, lol.

Same with the 5g issue. Only getting LTE right now and I have decent 5G in my area usually. I’m with T-Mobile. LTE and Wi-Fi is fine but can’t get 5G. I don’t think modem changed in this beta.

Edit. Just reset all network settings and 5G Is back and looks like it’s staying connected.

On AT&T. 5G is better in my area than LTE.
I did a hard reboot and it seems to be back so far.
Newtork reset is next if needed.

My iPhone 12PM feels a lot warmer than on Beta 5..
I had lots of heating up on beta 5 but on beta 6 seems fine for me ..like Mr. Pearsey said if you using it on this website its a battery hog and it will get hot..but for daily use for everything else it seems fine

I would like to nip this in the bud before someone post about battery deterioration on these betas.. its no big deal my battery health is down to 90% and I get the same usage as my wife’s 12PM phone thats down to 97% .. I don’t think it means anything and doesn’t affect day to day usages .. I charged my Phone after I installed beta 6 I got 2 hours and 26 min screen on time and 4 hours and 24 m screen off time and used only 23 percent of my battery so any mathematicians out there you can calculate and see my battery will last all day with normal usage with 90% battery health .. so in my opinion I think its poppycock.

”Shared with me” feature in Photos app is now showing photos from iMessages from five years ago. Not sure if bug or just a really stupid feature.

Safari hide tool bar option, as well as move tool bar to top of screen, setting in “Aa”

it bothers me when I scroll to the top the bar always presents itself. That needs a toggle fix. Disappears as you scroll down should respond in like.

Some of the shared with me stuff is old, as it depends on who’s sent me something of that type last. Safari shows me 2 links sent by a family member years ago. It’ll change once someone sends me something more recent, I assume.

I don’t think Apple considered that someone might not have sent something related to that app for years. Lol. Probably should limit it to last 3 months or so.

Speaking of the right design. On the iPadOS side of things… beta 1 was it for me. I think when Beta 2 or 3 came along, they added the Share button standalone. I assume it’s because that button seem familiar to existing users.

But I prefer not having the Share button standalone… it looks much cleaner, imo.

I don’t post frequently, but I wanted to chime in on the Safari URL address bar situation. I think that Beta 6 is a step back in many ways, but it can be made to work well if some critical adjustments are made. I have outlined them below.

First, the URL and the whole tab bar section is very large and takes up a lot of screen real estate. It would be good to find a way to “shrink” the amount of space it takes up when on-screen to something closer to what was in prior betas.

Second, the iconography is unintuitive. The “aA” button on the left side implies only text size adjustments, however it has a long-press reader mode behind it as well as an entire menu system to adjust how the page was loaded (with or without blockers, desktop or mobile, etc.). This does not make much sense and if it is to remain this way the icon should be changed to something that indicates this is a menu. Rather than making this an all-encompassing menu, I think there is a better approach outlined below, while changing this icon to reflect reader mode and related text adjustments only. That is, just make it a dedicated reader mode icon with related actions.

Third, it would be wise to move the “Turn Off Content Blockers” and “Requested Desktop Website” as long press context menu on the “Reload” button as these both reload the page anyway.

Fourth, “Website Settings”, “Privacy Report”, “Hide Toolbar”, and text size adjustments should be moved to the long press context menu of the URL, together with the copy and other features as they pertain to the page in general.

Fifth, “Move to Tab Group” should be removed from the URL context menu. It is already on the tab button when long pressed and unnecessary.

Sixth, “Show Top Address Bar” should be only in Safari Settings with the default set to the tab mode, otherwise too many will likely just switch back to “old and familiar”, negating the benefits of the change. The key to adoption is to leave the new tab mode the default and require the user to make the change in Settings explicitly.

Seventh, the tab bar should automatically hide and stay hidden even if the user scrolls up. The current implementation where the bar expands when scrolling up severely reduces screen real estate when using the tab bar to a point of affecting usability and usefulness of this mode. The bar should unhide only on user tap as it is now when collapsed and scrolling down on the page.

I have sent this feedback to Apple and am posting it here for anyone else that agrees and would like to echo the feedback to Apple.

Thanks all!
