What is Apple doing with Safari? Why can’t they make their minds up on what the design is going to be? I get that there are going to be initial changes, but we aren’t we far enough into this that there should be a final design for Safari in iOS 15?

It’s not necessarily true. I’ve always been into UX and UI, and quite often I’m choosing products based on their UI. I’ve always hated that people don’t easily accept UI changes, however I’ve never been among them. In fact, what made me interested in software engineering when I was 8 years old was software products with different then UIs than what was common at the time. This still hasn’t changed. iOS 7 was my favourite iOS release, as well as macOS Yosemite and Big Sur, cuz of their UI refreshes. However, there is a big difference between getting used to a UI change and a bad UX, which the new Safari in my opinion is. It got better with Beta 6, thankfully, Apple is listening to all the feedback. As we’ve seen in the past, Apple doesn’t usually change stuff they think it’s okay just based on user feedback. As they did now, it is another indication it was a wrong decision and someone in the team has eventually realised it.

Even if better in Beta 6, I still think Safari 15 is worse in iPadOS and Monterey (I don’t like the outlined address bar, the style of the tabs, among some bugs) than Safari 14. Btw, the Safari update was the only thing that got me excited from the WWDC21 announcements. However, after using it, it quickly turned into a disappointment.
How does the beta 6 UI look better than the initial design? The latest looks so inconsistent with the rest of the iOS. It’s a bit more convenient but definitely not the best they could come up with. And something tells me they’re gonna change it again in the next few betas.

We interrupt this circular Safari debate to mention that Bluetooth connectivity—at least with Airpod Pros—seems to be significantly worse. My last phone call switched back to my phone 3 times in 10 minutes.

Now back to our regularly scheduled Safari discussion. As you were.

that should make my conference call at 5 pm interesting

Confused why people are sh*ting the bed about the Safari UI...

1. We are in a beta cycle, so testing things out, especially major changes is what this is all about. - give feedback!!!
2. It's not the final release - then ill be sh*ting the bed, maybe.
And like @srbNYC just said Bluetooth connectivity issues should be way more concerning for some.. it is for me since I use my airpods 25 percent of the day for work

might go back to B5. depends on how much bad feedback they get.
They will definitely get a feedback from me to at least offer the option of the floating bar like with beta 5. If some people are happy with the beta 6 bottom bar, good for them, but if Apple is giving more UI options to safari, I don’t see why we can’t have the option of the floating bottom bar for those who like it better

I say that and I remember how I was skeptic of the safari redesign as announced at WWDC. The experience was more positive than I though, especially on a big phone like the 12 PM

For people complaining about AirPods issues, related to connectivity and others, I’ve been having issues with AirPods since the release day in 2015, with all iPhones, all MacBooks and all AirPods I have had, so I have just accepted it’s never going to be reliable.

I think Beta 7 might see two options:

1. B5 | floating bottom bar
2. B6 | Top bar

its definitely split the camp. And why they do this, to find out what we want.

I must be very lucky on my 12 PM or iPad Pro my AirPods have little to no connectivity issues. The only issue was bouncing from one product to the other .. had to go in a tell the product I’m using my AirPods with the device from time to time

Well what I’ve been experiencing haven’t been connectivity issues only. There’s been issues with the microphone among others. I know I’m running beta software most of the time, but it’s crazy I’ve been having problems all the time for so long and they never seem to be resolved. It might also be due to incompatibility with some of the apps or the websites I’m using, but still…

I think the reason they moved it to the bottom is because of the notch. Maybe they should get with the times and remove the notch instead of reinventing the internet browser 😂

Then I’d say you gave up too soon. I’ve had that issue a couple times before but they go away with a replacement. AppleCare on AirPods is definitely worth it. Anytime I have an issue that a typical troubleshooting doesn’t resolve I’d order a replacement.
