iOS is getting to the point where the only changes are incremental. Smartphones are no longer growing by leaps and bounds and operating systems have become mature.

A couple of things I would love to see iOS steal from Android are more custom app icons and system sounds.

and it’s because of the incremental changes Air 2, Mini 4 and other older devices are still getting this update which was the most exciting thing about iOS/iPadOS 15

So no productivity enhancements to make the iPP shine as productivity powerhouses?

Hopefully the lack of features will give the devs some much needed time fixing bugs, like the Snow Leopard of iOS.

    • Logic Pro
    • Xcode
  • No progress window for file transfer, at least in the form of notifications
  • No enhanced Files support
    • No sort folders on top
    • No enhanced server support like thumbnails, reliable and faster connection
    • No collapsible folders in list view
    • None of the basic fundemental features of Finder
  • No Disk Utility for formatting drives

What I really like here: People complain but don't give a smart, doable (transform iPad OS in 1 year in a macOS light f.e. is not doable) solution, what they want. Just bashing iOS 15. Do I need all features? No. But I like them. And I get them for free with my devices. Does Windows have a yearly upgrade cycle with this amout of features? I guess no. Does any other company grant those upgrades to 5 year old devices? I also doubt it... so: I take it for free and use what I can use in my daily work.

iPadOS still has a long way to go to be the hybrid we are looking for, without being iOS or macOS.
I wish apple can support window mode for any app on iPad. Really.

Not a single feature that the casual user will be hyped about. All this FaceTime and group sharing is so niche, weird they spent so much time on it
I feel like most of the new features are made for teenagers or young adults because I just cannot find a situation in which I would listen to music with someone over Facetime or bother to screen share while watching a movie. Maybe I am just old (32) but it makes no sense to me, especially now, that the pandemic related restrictions are being dropped across the globe.

Also, are people this addicted to their phone that they need to set their own incoming notification limitations like "when I read a book, please hide notifications of app XY?" seems too much work. Either I am available or I am not.

...

I installed it on my old iPhone 6s and if it wasn't for the new Weather app, I would not even have noticed that the OS has changed (which is good in terms of speed, but bad in terms of an actual update)

I’ve never been so disappointed with Apple as I am now.

I honestly thought the M1 signalled that Apple had finally decided to take the iPad seriously. I fully expected iPadOS update to be what we all wanted & I fully expected a full suite of Pro apps to be announced.

I was all set to pull the trigger on the 11” IPP with 1TB & had been holding out for WWDC before making my purchase. So glad I did.

Maybe the iPad Pro wil never be the device we expected it to be? This was Apple’s chance and they blew it. There’s literally no point packing in all that amazing hardware just to drive a very stale iPadOS that lacks everything people have been asking for.

This is actually the headline feature for me. I love stuff like NetflixParty / PrimeParty and have a huge group of friends that loves to watch movies together digitally (due to different countries / living far away). We also use sites like WatchTogether to sync up music playback via YouTube.

I also cant understand why simultaneous playback is still not available in 2021. I mean, its a basic function that every basic computer should do. The iPad can't even try to tell us its a computer replacement without a basic function like this that we shouldn't have to beg them to add this...

I think part of the reason for no big changes in iOS/iPadOS 15 is due to COVID. Having to work from home will never be as efficient and it shows through the final product that innovation have dropped significantly when working from home.
I think it really depends on the industry you’re in wether working from home impacts efficiency and innovation. In my professional services industry it actually has greatly increased efficiency and stirred innovation. As for iOS specifically, I think people don’t want innovation from iOS as much as they want feature parity with Android / Microsoft etc. mobile OS.

I have a question regarding multitasking.

With iPadOS15, if you have an app on SliceOver, like iMessage or Telegram, and you want to send an audio or photo from the iPad, does it work?

Because I think that, which seems silly, makes me quite nervous, having to have the app in "full screen" to be able to send an audio....

If you need a Mac, buy a Mac, don't buy an iPad and expect it to be a Mac.
