Argh. I use DND on a schedule with this option. If I’m asleep, my phone won’t wake me; if I’m not, it behaves as normal. Have I got to manage this manually every day of my life now - or risk dropping out of conversations if I’m doing something else at the same time and forget to check for messages? That’s tedious.

Yes, it is a hassle. I just found that it was more peaceful to set a schedule to go into bedtime mode 10 minutes after i normally go to bed and go off when I normally get....during the work from home days. Now that I go in randomly and get up much earlier on those days I will turn it off via the watch.
i like the crib sound — my wife's phone still does it))

I could never get notifications to stop showing up while on the device in DND. What was the magical thing except for actually disabling notifications?
i'm honestly not sure. they were supposed to work just like in the picture in the article. that's how it worked for me. not sure what the issue was for you. do you set up your phones as 'new', or always restore from a previous device?

This has got to be the most ridiculous thread I have ever read.

Literally everybody complaining over a feature that they think is used by everybody just because it's used themselves.

I myself have never used DND like the way it's described in this article or comments, does that mean everybody uses it like me? No, so why the hell does there have to be an uprising about this?

Also... I gotta ask, how in the world does this usage make any sense?! You want to be in DND when it's locked, but then you unlock your phone and get notifications and then lock again and go back to DND? How often are you on your device between locks that you require this feature? If you are on your phone for seconds between locks this doesn't make any sense to me. If you are on your phone a lot, how can a swipe to control centre and a tap be so insane to toggle off DND that it breaks you as a person?

I understand that if someone has a use case and that is removed that it is upsetting, but you also have the option to not update your device. You even have the option now to roll back

I’ve done both. It was always a minor annoyance, though, when using the device. When locked it always did what I expected. I just didn’t like message notifications popping up regardless of the setting when using the device. Maybe this focus mode will help. We will see :)

well yea, i'm sure it is when the device isn't doing what you're expecting it to do)))
yea, well, with the exception of what this post is about — focus mode gives you a ton of options!

dude, relax. first of all a lot of people do/did use this, despite the fact that you don't. i don't use it, but i can sympathize with those who do/did.

same as when they got rid of 3d touch. a lot of people said "who cares — i never used it". but i did — and i'm still annoyed that once i upgrade from my xs, i will no longer have this feature.

not going to go into detail, but there are many scenarios where the feature mentioned in this article was useful for many people.

suggesting that people hold on to outdated devices/software is pretty useless and/or ignorant, as usually people upgrade for a number of reasons, not for one feature.

perhaps if apple took away something that you find extremely useful, you'd understand the sentiment.

they went through specific effort to remove this, but cant be bothered to use their own self proclaimed magic tool for turning apps into universal works immediately across all devices software via xcode to give the ipad the native calculator app they've had since the inception of the iphone??????????????????????????

what the hell?

i guess i’m in a different boat. notifications are off when im not on my phone and i don’t want banners while im using it. my phone works for me, i don’t need the distractions, i’ll get to the other things when time permits.

For one thing, DnD seems to be the only "focus" option that can automatically activate on a time schedule (e.g. during the night hours).

🤷🏻‍♂️

iOS and iPadOS 15 is the first time I am severely disappointed I updated my devices the first day possible. So far haven't found one thing I like about it, but my list of dislikes is quite long.

Same here. Not one thing I like about it. I updated my iPad first, so at least I didn’t screw up my phone too.

Yes my DND disturb didn’t kick in last night. I have it on from 8pm to 7pm. I had to go into settings and set up the schedule again. But I was still getting notifications on the lock screen.

This is super annoying. In a similar vein, I used to use “Delivery Prominently” and “Delivery Quietly” with a swipe quite often for allowing security camera notifications to come through when I want to be kept up to date immediately or silenced during the day with a lot of in and out (but still viewable in the Notification Center).
Now the best I can do quickly is switch from “add to summary” or “deliver immediately” but if I clear the summary then there’s not even silent notifications sent to change the setting with. Not to mention, the app isn’t even showing up to add to my custom
Focus to try to find a quick solution.

No point in people saying they never used the option or to try a work-around.

Apple removed a feature many of us used. It makes no sense.

Also why can’t the sleep tracking feature work automatically if I’m wearing my Apple Watch to bed. Why do I have to specifically turn on sleep mode?

I hope sleep watch integrates the respiratory rate monitoring from watch OS 8. The built in sleep tracking is awful.

I would of thought getting notified when a phone was unlocked was important ...no?

Tim Cook testing Focus mode: Hmm, I don't really get it, but what do I know, you are the engineers. So many toggles... must be a good feature to set us apart from our competition, congrats!
Steve Jobs testing Focus mode: What the hell is this, who came up with this bloated nonsense?! You're all fired!

Add me to the list of people that always kept this on. My iPad and iPhone(s) are literally always in this state, so really hoping they bring it back.
