15.1 B3 Tuesday then?!?

I hope you guys get some fixes because it sounds painful reading on here and the B2 thread.

IPSW, it has The Powers of Grey Skull ☠️ HE-MAN 🏃‍♂️
Depending on what b3 fixes I’ll hop onto it.
Sounds like Apple is taking a page out of some Android OEMs books and making betas more stable than.. stable.

Oh joy.

Yes you are correct about the music bug.. but 19A346 is fine if you do it through the IPSW not OTA something about the OTA breaks things.. I restored my phone through IPSW and have no issues it actually fixed the storage bug too
Wanted to add my thanks to you and @Pearsey for advice on IPSW vs OTA. I've done that in the distant past, but didn't think much about it in a few cycles. Wish there was more documentation on differences.

However, unlike others here, storage bug (0 KB used & available > capacity) on My iPhone 11P got was not fixed in 15.0.1 OTA, nor macOS IPSW update. Watch unlock working great and otherwise all seems well on 13 Pro.

The only problem I have in the beta of iOS 15.1 is the low volume when someone calls me. For the rest, it works as it should, with the exception of the System Data section, which continues to occupy between 6 and 10Gb, depending on the day. And I have already tried everything, restore included, and it starts well and gets out of control as the hours go by. So it is easy to think that Apple is betting so that those of us who have 64Gb devices update the new ones that have double the base storage. I say it, because a friend with 256Gb and twice the number of applications and games, this section occupies half that of me. Very strange thing. And yes, I think we're pretty close to seeing the RC version of iOS 15.1, maybe this week or the next.

In short OTA just replaces old files that need to be replaced with new ones - so things could get bloated and left behind.

The IPSW way, will erase your iOS off your phone, and load on a full clean iOS version - Finder+alt+check for updates+select IPSW! Doesn’t touch your apps or data.

Jump in here @Ansath because you know more than me about what I’m going to say, but, OTA isn’t tested in house at Apple right? Don’t they operate only on IPSW?

It’s my understanding that your personal data and the systems data are kept in different locations or partitions. So installing over itself replaces the system data while leaving personal data untouched in its place.

More or less just like macOS Big Sur ... and the OS is distributed as a giant signed image. I wonder where they got that idea from... ?
iOS

All that info about IPSW testing is quite interesting. Does anyone know of any documentation I could check out?

I’m not 100%, don’t think anyone knows, but I’d guess maybe they’d have some OTA capability internally, or you’d hope so. If they don’t, that explains a lot.

I just started a restore via the Finder + IPSW file, and then did the setup by holding it up to my iPad. I didn't see a prompt to choose the option to either setup as new or restore from iCloud or whatnot, either, it just moved right to Restoring from iCloud. I can always do it again if it's messed up. I wonder if it's just assuming you know that's the plan all along. Hopefully the restore doesn't keep pausing like last time, due to it getting too hot. I had to leave it propped up against the AC for like 1½ hours.

(Something funny for me: I have friends in Ipswich, MA and autocorrect always changes the IPSW for me to Ipswich)

::Oh, I'm doing this because I'm starting to get prompts about being low on storage, and I'm seeing both my Music App and System/Other taking up more and more space. I went to remove all downloaded music, and it didn't clear. Reboot, no change.. So, Maybe this will be the key for me::

if the new watches need ios 15.1 to work, that makes me think that this week we should receive the RC version, with official release next week
According to product page so it does not need iOS 15.1 or watchOS 8.1. Prolly suggest those builds will be coming out afterward.

iPhone storage “glitch” fixed… phone is running like a peach, it’s like I’m already on the next beta after that restore…

Don’t need Beta 3 today. Might skip it 😜

15.0.2 tomorrow?

First time since owning a Face ID iPhone, I’m starting to have glitches with Face ID 🤦‍♂️ Better not be the new true depth camera layout. 🤦‍♂️

App Store needs to be pulled down multiple times before app updates show up. 🤦‍♂️

safari still running like a pig 🤦‍♂️
Have to disconnect WiFi then reconnect it so internet will work. 🤦‍♂️

Mail badge is popping up again, when emails have been read. 🤦‍♂️

Then there is this crap, which is 18 pages long and becoming more widespread by the minute. 🤦‍♂️👇

I do the storage on the iphone in general, there is no way to understand it. As soon as System Data occupies 10Gb, like 3Gb, with the same use and apps. iCloud Drive out of nowhere starts to occupy almost 1Gb, and I neither have documents nor use iCloud at all, all my backups are local with iTunes. The funny thing is that I have compared this with a friend, she has a 256Gb iphone 11 pro max. for her, with almost 100 apps installed, System Data occupies 4Gb, while I with 36 apps, between 6 and 10Gb. We both have social networks that in theory occupy a lot of cache, such as instagram or telegram. She even has more, because she has snapchat, tiktok, facebook, which I don't. I have restored and there is no way, she continues to occupy an awful lot for what was normal in iOS 14.

you've tried a restore right?
What if you set up as new before a full restore from your back, just to check these problems aren’t linked to your back up. Rush through all the settings, set up as new, and test. If there gone, you’ll have to add all your apps back and redo settings. Takes time but worth it. 😬

this has worked for me on the past. Back ups from beta trains and then official builds did a number on me on iCloud.

I set up as new, then deleted old back ups, fresh back up worked a treat from there on in.
