What about the promotion bug they said will be fixed, and the touch responsive bug?

I hope there’s more fixed than just that…

These xx.0.1 releases are generally quick-turnaround bugfix updates that only address specific high-priority bugs affecting customer devices in the wild — they're intentionally limited in scope because of the short timeframe.

More extensive fixes (and delayed launch feature enablement) are what the xx.1 updates are usually for.

That was somewhat related to my query. If we’re on 15.1, will we even see 15.0.1? Or are we more likely to get a 15.1 beta 3 release? Thanks

“specific high-priority bugs affecting customer devices in the wild”

“Audio meditations could unexpectedly start a workout on Apple Watch for some Fitness+ subscribers”

You know I just have the slightest feeling there were some more pressing matters to attend to

EDIT: Sorry the accidental quote!

Nope, you won't see it — presumably these fixes are either already in a 15.1 beta we're already running, or an upcoming beta/release candidate.

Our definition of "high priority" and Apple's definition of "high priority" will not necessarily always (or even often) coincide.

“fairly minor issues (opening the phone with a Watch”
If that was the only significant issue I was experiencing, sure then, it’s just a bug and it’s not too bad.

But you clearly have seemed to glance over some of the big ones, like your photos being wiped if you have an automatic backup take place and deleted a conversation. Or the screen randomly refusing to register touch, sometimes for up 5-7 seconds.

“But they are not showstoppers and people need to stop acting as if they are.”

I’m not sure about you but having my photos being deleted without me doing anything would put some pretty strong thunderclouds above my head.

“I would point out that this entire OS was developed in highly unusual circumstances, with people working from home in situations where in-person collaboration would be highly desirable. That’s going to have a cost.”

It’s been 18 months since the pandemic began, if this was iOS 14 which came with its issues certainly, sure I can chalk that up to the new environment. But it’s not an excuse over 18 months in. Most companies have developed systems for working from home and other OEMs and software manufacturers are chugging along fine. If Apple can’t do this, it’s time to get back into the office.

“Can you imagine the uproar if Apple had announced that iOS 15 was going to be cancelled for the year because they didn’t think it would meet expectations? It would have been deafening.”

Not really, macOS has had quite a few delays, especially after the pandemic. It used to have a consistent track record of releasing in September or early October sometimes. They released Big Sur in November and it appears that Monterey is getting similar treatment. I think most users would prefer to have their updates more polished and released later than buggy and released earlier.

Then again there’s not much to ride home about with iOS 15. Half the features announced at WWDC are delayed.

Bugs ☑️

It’s almost like it’s.. what’s the word.. oh yeah! Half baked.

The screen and photos deleting bugs I have never seen or can replicate on my 12 - I’m on 15.1 beta 2 now.

I’m guessing youve tried avenues like fresh install of the beta or iOS via finder IPSW and if that fails a restore? To then still have these bugs to report?

I didn’t experience these on my 12 Pro Max, I do however experience these on my 13 Pro Max and am still able to replicate it after 15.0.1. It certainly appears iOS 15 has several more issues for iPhone 13 series compared to other series.

I always fully reinstall iOS after every milestone update and after all beta cycles. I have not reinstalled via IPSW on this device as it came with the milestone update preinstalled.

EDIT: I just tried it again and I’m not able to reproduce the issue anymore, there may have been a sever side fix deployed to iCloud Photos

The 15.0 that the 13 came with was not the one that was publicly released on all the other devices, it was an earlier build that got superseded, due to the Pegasus exploit and also a bug with Apple Music. Just as an FYI.

Yes, I understand that.
I immediately updated to the official launch patch once I got past setup.

You do know that the team dealing with Fitness+ is not the same team that deals with the other areas that have bugs? So them fixing audio meditations, has no impact on the timing of other fixes…..

Of course.
I certainly understand there’s different teams for handling different services and parts of the operating systems, that’s the norm with any OS development.

What I can’t understand as much is how a critical issue like the touch screen failing to function sometimes were not treated as a matter of priority. Considering that the touch screen is one of the most crucial parts of a proper functioning device, it seems bizarre that their hotfix patch would not include such an important bug fix.

Then again, considering Apple’s track record of how they treat the white hat community with serious zero days. I’m not surprised that it wasn’t treated as priority.

What?!?

I thought every software engineer was responsible for the whole stack? And that there were an unlimited number of them? Because of all Apple’s money, right? Infinite resources, with zero constraints, so that unlike any other SW/HW implementation the world has ever seen, this particular one should have zero bugs. And get delivered on-time every year regardless of what is going on in the world around them.

Did I get that wrong?

You’re assuming they’re not working on it, when they likely will be, it’s just not something they could fix quickly for 15.0.1.

Also, from what can be seen, it’s happening in a small minority, in relation to other issues, so it won’t be as high a priority to fix, as other issues.

Go to Settings>General>About and tap on Software Version. Doing so toggles between the iOS version and the build number.
Aha! Many thanks! I'm on 15.0.1, which is 19A348. I usually run the betas, but haven't done that yet with my brand spanking new 13 Pro. :)
