Brilliantly put. I usually (well, not super often!) don't lose my cool here, but when I see the infantile temper tantrums being thrown, I do react.
Infantile temper tantrums?
People have a right to complain when they’ve been given a half baked operating system for a device they need to use daily.

The problems seem to be also majority focused on the 13 series as well, which has a laundry list of issues at the moment. Even their flagship ProMotion display is suffering from software related issues.

I can definitely tell you that users would get upset about not being able to use their Apple Watch to unlock their phones with a mask, have CarPlay repeatedly crash while playing music because someone forgot to test it with equalisers, the keyboard failing to show, the screen straight up failing to work for a few seconds or even when a users photos are deleted from their device and even iCloud after removing a conversation and having a backup that is regular and automatic. Those things are certainly noticeable and not just by ‘beta users’

I don’t think peoples devices having random photos being wiped are not bugs in the ‘nuisance variety’ and fall under more the ‘oh ****’ variety.

Clearly the update should’ve been delayed and from early looks, it needed a good month or two more development time. Now we just have panicky irrational decisions, like unsigning the only update available for 13 users, where Reddit and Twitter quickly filled up with complaints since they were unable to update and getting an arbitrary error that had nothing to do with the actual issue.

Constant defending of decisions and updates like this is the primary reason Apple can get away with this.

There's a difference between constructive complaining and temper tantrums or using extreme hyperbole, and there are people who fall into the latter category. If you're unaware of the latter, you must be new here.

There's people claiming Apple are sitting around doing nothing, which is funny, since no-one here is in at Apple to know what they are doing, but they sure as hell won't be doing nothing. The fact that there was the issue with he iOS 15 build stopped being signed for a period, indicates likely we were meant to get 15.0.1 earlier this week, and if that's the case, the fact we haven't, means something showstopper was wrong with it.

The nature of software, is that there will always be bugs, as nothing is perfect, be it iOS, Android, Windows, MacOS, Linux, etc.

The iOS 15 bugs, more than half of which the vast majority of the general public won't be aware of, or see, does not mean this is a 'half baked OS', and we've seen worse issues with public releases. Also, from what we've seen, iOS 15.1 Beta 2 resolves most the issues. iOS 15.1 is likely getting public release in the next couple weeks, or by end of October at latest. It's possibly that a lot of the fixes for the more imminent issues (like the Apple Watch bug & CarPlay connection issues) are in 15.0.1, which will come out before 15.1.

No-one is saying not to complain and no-one is defending Apple for having bugs. All that's being said is that complaints are received better, when they are constructive and without histrionics.

Happy 1st day of October y’all! This month is going to be an exciting month. Hoping to receive an updated IOS 15.1 or latest IOS update this month. Hopefully this is the month Apple will fix all the bugs and issues.

All of them?

Don’t worry, someone on here will always find one to complain about. I think my favorite was how the app name was a pixel or two off center from the app box itself…

If Prosser is right about the new Apple Watch being mid October, I can see 15.1 dropping that same week.
Hey mate, no one replies in the macOS thread, it's always dead lol, you reckon we'll be getting anymore betas for macOS? Or I can delete the beta profile? 🤔

We had one the other week. I am 50/50 on either another one, or the last one being what’s gonna be RC.

the truth is that I went to the beta of ios 15.1, and I have to say that the problem of uncontrolled use of "System data" seems to be solved in this version, except in future versions. seeing that the beta releases are weekly, and the stability that I am seeing in beta 2, I would not be surprised to see a possible RC next week or the next at the latest.

@Ansath did a nice job responding to this post, so I will only add a few more observations.

You make my point by referring to this as a “half-baked operating system”. The constant use of hyperbole to describe what are for the most part fairly minor issues (opening the phone with a Watch, using the term “full stop” to insert a period [Sorry Stumpy not with you on this being “pathetic”. Annoying, yes; pathetic, no], etc…).

No one disputes that there are bugs. I would take issue with how serious most of them are and how widespread most of them are. But there are bugs. And they are frustrating.

But they are not showstoppers and people need to stop acting as if they are.

I would point out that this entire OS was developed in highly unusual circumstances, with people working from home in situations where in-person collaboration would be highly desirable. That’s going to have a cost.

Can you imagine the uproar if Apple had announced that iOS 15 was going to be cancelled for the year because they didn’t think it would meet expectations? It would have been deafening.

As I’ve said a number of times above, all signs point to 15.0.1 having been delayed for some reason. Would not surprise me to see it today.

Great discussion here today.. I agree all the bugs that are on the front page of MR and few are complaining about iOS 15 are not showstoppers to where you can’t use your phone for daily use, most of them have work arounds in the meantime..I’m a big believer that OTA is the cause of these issues, every since @Pearsey said he did his phone only with IPSW’s and not OTA’s he did not see most of these issues so I did the same thing, I wiped my phone and started fresh through Finder with a IPSW and bam all the issue reported I cannot reproduce on my 13PM..I know this is not an option for most people but I’m just saying it worked. So if you are in the “ridiculous camp” with Apple you have things you can do besides be over dramatic .. peace and love. Here’s to hoping for 15.0.1 today !!!

IPSW since 15 RC and done a network reset after the last two betas, has been working really nicely for me on my 12. Completely agree with @Bobout OTA astute analysis, it made me go in a different direction and things are going well with betas and official releases 👍🏼

Just wish people would try it out when they can. Download the ISPW to your desktop. Using finder, full back up first to your mac, then hold down alt, click on check for update button, navigate to the IPSW, instal.

This will clean your phones iOS once finished with a fresh version. It will wipe only the iOS off, then install the full clean version. Your apps and data are NOT touched. Phone reboots and your away. No back ups used, needed, as it’s ONLY the operating system with this process that is touched.

use this process to reinstall the iOS your on or update to a new beta. I’ve even, when needed to, gone backwards a few betas or a .1 in the same iOS, if it lets you. It just won’t if you cant

“fairly minor issues (opening the phone with a Watch”
If that was the only significant issue I was experiencing, sure then, it’s just a bug and it’s not too bad.

But you clearly have seemed to glance over some of the big ones, like your photos being wiped if you have an automatic backup take place and deleted a conversation. Or the screen randomly refusing to register touch, sometimes for up 5-7 seconds.

“But they are not showstoppers and people need to stop acting as if they are.”

I’m not sure about you but having my photos being deleted without me doing anything would put some pretty strong thunderclouds above my head.

“I would point out that this entire OS was developed in highly unusual circumstances, with people working from home in situations where in-person collaboration would be highly desirable. That’s going to have a cost.”

It’s been 18 months since the pandemic began, if this was iOS 14 which came with its issues certainly, sure I can chalk that up to the new environment. But it’s not an excuse over 18 months in. Most companies have developed systems for working from home and other OEMs and software manufacturers are chugging along fine. If Apple can’t do this, it’s time to get back into the office.

Not really, macOS has had quite a few delays, especially after the pandemic. It used to have a consistent track record of releasing in September or early October sometimes. They released Big Sur in November and it appears that Monterey is getting similar treatment. I think most users would prefer to have their updates more polished and released later than buggy and released earlier.

Then again there’s not much to ride home about with iOS 15. Half the features announced at WWDC are delayed.

Hey, there's always Android. 😆

Yeah! And the same goes for macOS, too. You can create a USB installer and then reinstall over your “Macintosh HD” drive and it leaves all of your data in place. So the same process can basically be done across iOS/iPadOS/macOS…

Also, what I’ve done after updating to the latest release is an OTA backup and then Reset/Erase All, and then restore from that backup. Just saying as that’s always been my “go to” fix. Your way works great, too.

Yayyyyy updates! Woohoo! 609.8 megs on my ip13.. nothing showing yet on the ip13pm 😂😂😑😑

Did this fix the photo/messages bug? Cause it sure didn’t for me. Nor the wallet issue.
