I'm liking all the things you hate about it, plus more. Well, maybe not the memory videos thing, but the rest - love it. Shareplay for things like Disney+ is gonna be good for the shows my Mum & I watch, but can't watch in sync due to living in different parts of the country!
Disney+ does offer WatchParty for a while now though (which is essentially like SharePlay, not sure if it's supported on all Apple devices though). But natively tying into FaceTime is a whole different level of shared content.
I'm an avid fan of the "Party" apps (NetflixParty, PrimeParty, Teleparty etc) that sync various streaming services via a browser link (completely legal, they pretty much serves as JS extensions that control the streaming services individual player UI and try to heartbeat playback with all participants connected to your session).

I hope other apps like Prime, Netflix (although I doubt Netflix adds support for it ...) and Spotify add support for SharePlay too.

iOS 15 has it's built in authenticator, to rival Google Authenticator, Authy & Microsoft Authenticator.
Do we know how reliable it is across backups (does it even get backed up to iCloud? iCloud Keychain?). I'm currently rocking Authy because it's the only one I could reliably get to sync across devices via a passphrase protected backup (I could never get Google Auth to sync, ever...).

I don't think it's supported on AppleTV, plus using it then having a separate FaceTime is a pain. There's other services that don't have a watch party feature, wondering if they will take advantage of it.

Most the 'Party' apps are browser, and not really useable for AppleTV, etc.

Spotify are likely to be dicks, like they are being about HomePod support.

It seems like it's part of iCloud Keychain, from the way its' described. Also, from the description, it autopopulates without the need to flick to anything else, unlike the other Authenticator apps

I moved away from Google Authenticator to Microsoft, as the latter backs up to iCloud, Google's one was shocking.

The machine learning stuff never works great. Look at app library. I have never used it once.

Fully user customizable often works better. The notification summary is likely something most wont even choose to use.

I wonder how iPhones older than the 8 without neural are managing to do the machine learning stuff for features or are just these features turned off?

Is this even REALLY doing loads of ML? Always assumed App Library is a quick and dirty categorization via App Store meta data, followed by „lazy“ usage statistics for Apps to prioritize the first 3 shown.

Well, when Federighi opened with FaceTime, I knew we were in for a massive disappointment. I didn't see anything compelling or any "giant step", personally...
Craig took a giant step through a secret hatch on the floor and jumped down to the level below.

I am still waiting for the animated GIF of that.

I'm glad I was wrong about the iOS/iPadOS 15 support. All A8X and up devices supported. It looks like the cutoff continues to be 2 GB RAM.

but you should have seen the fine print mate… Apple still has the TV HD for sale with same SoC as Mini 4 and that is compatible with tvOS 15 so no brainer that Mini 4 will get it (by the way A8 and up not A8X and up)

True. But I guess the real cutoff is 2 GB RAM. A8 iPhones are not included.

Pretty sure this may need it’s own thread, but here goes:

I was reading an article about iOS 15, iPad OS 15 etc on the Verge earlier today. In the article there’s a list of new features, in said list is a feature/option for people who don’t want to upgrade to iOS 15 even when it’s final. The option will allow people to stay on iOS 14 and still receive security updates for iOS 14 even iOS 15 is released to the public.

This new? Option got me thinking; Are Apple about to change the way they handle iOS updates? I’ll post a screenshot and the link to the article. To me, this looks like it could be the start of Apple offering, say 3-4 years of major iOS updates (starting with iOS 15) and either a set period of, or lifetime security updates.

Something like that could bring Apple a lot of £££$$$. I hope they don’t go down that route, although it would still be fair to us customers I can’t see that going down well.

Is iOS 15 the start of a new era for iOS updates?

Either using the CPU/GPU to run the algorithms, such as the case of on device intelligence like Search, or those devices just lack those features completely (for example Live Text requires an A12 or newer).

I’d like to see a beta 2 of iOS 15 to coincide with the date (15th) and the day (Tuesday). Unlikely for beta 2 seeing as this would usually be two weeks between first and second, but this would be a nice symbolic opportunity.

iOS 15 seems to be a polish release and it shows.

The few new introductions such as Safari are nice to have. I like this iteration and how it works on my A11 iPhone 8. I would have liked to have Live Text though. That doesn’t sit right with me, that’s it. Rest everything is delightful for me in this first beta.
