Do we think we are on weekly’s yet?

I’m going to go out in a limb and say no.

I think we get beta 3 next Tuesday/Weds (May 3/4). Then beta 4 on May 10/11. Beta 5 on May 17/18. RC on 5/24. Public release on June 1 (due to the Memorial Day holiday here in the US on May 30).

Or we get it this week and everything I laid out above is accelerated by a week. But I don’t think so.

Happy Monday!

This is going to be an exciting week. Apple's quarterly earnings are set for Thursday, April 28th. Hoping for a weekly iOS beta update. Can't believe we're only 5 weeks away from WWDC 2022.

I hope everyone is going to have a productive week.

I think that if they plan to release 15.4.2, I see it difficult for them to do it on a Friday. I'd bet on next week, although if they accelerate the development of ios 15.5 and release it in the middle of May, until then there will be nothing in the stable branch. I hope I'm wrong haha

Absent an urgent security need, no.

15.4.1 was released to address an urgent security issue. 15.5 is no more than 3 or 4 weeks away. Absent another zero day exploit or similar security issue, I don’t see a 15.4.2

That makes sense, but leaving a paid music streaming service with bugs that directly affects music playback for another month seems unacceptable to me, unless these issues can be solved without the need of updating the software.

Currently (there are several threads on reddit about this), there are the following issues with AM.

"Gapless playback is semi broken, and track 2 of almost all albums is skipped over when playing them from the beginning.

Also, sometimes playback will just suddenly stop, just stop. If you press play again, it will continue without any issues.

I encounter this behavior on Mac, IOS, Apple TV, and Homepod. I dont know if its a server side issues or an OS bug, in which case a new software update would be required."

"it isn’t exactly the second song on every album, but the second song played after you’ve selected a song.

For example, if you start an album on Track 2 the track will play all the way through and then skip Track 3 to go to Track 4 and then continue like normal after that".

I don’t doubt for a second that you and others are experiencing those issues. But it all comes down to the numbers affected and the severity of the issue (a theme of mine):

Of Apple’s 1 billion+ users, how many are experiencing this and how severe is this issue? If neither of these is particularly high (relatively - even a million people with this issue is only 1/10th of 1 percent of the install base), Apple is not going to spend engineering time in a special update fixing this, particularly if they already have a fix identified for the next release (or on some schedule).

It is no fun when you are the one with the issue, but software engineering resources are scarce and probably a lot of that is now dedicated to iOS 16, not bug fixes in iOS 15.

Completely agree. But thinking about it, these issues started happening a few days ago, with 15.4.1 already released, so 15.4.1 wasnt the cause.

So perhaps they are server side issues, and AM is simply misbehaving.

15.5 fixed several long-standing Music playback issues for me across i(Pad)OS and HomePod, for what it’s worth. I do understand, however, if you don’t want to run beta software.
