When did you get the iPhone and which Model? I am having similar issues with my 13 Pro Max.
I didn't know Apple were so stingy with replacements. I took it to the Apple Store and they wouldn't replace it for a new phone!
It’s an older phone that’s no longer under AppleCare… For what it’s worth, my issue resolved itself after a few days (thankfully!).

iOS 16.2 betas have been pretty good for me thus far on 13 mini, especially with beta 2 it seems :)

But to those, especially those using SE 2020s, having trouble: I'm sorry. I mean, that phone's battery situation was never great to begin with (my ex had one...or maybe two, I don't remember). But in my brief time with one, the 2022 battery was incredible. Funny how that works.

I have noticed extreme battery drain using Youtube‘s website with iPad Pro. The back of the tablet actually gets warm and I have NEVER observed this before iOS 16. Battery drain is faster on all my iOS 16 devices but YouTube’s website seems to result in exceptionally high battery drain… likely caused by elevated CPU processing but I have no means to verify my guess.

When my 14 Pro max updated to 16.1 I noticed my battery did get worse. Not anything to drastic but noticeable.

Since 16.1.1 it seems to have got much better again.

ios 16.2 beta 2 on my iphone 12 has the best battery life so far, beats any previous ios 16 and 15 versions, hopefully it will improve even more on beta 3

My iPhone 13 mini drains battery like never before after upgrading to iOS 16, none of the smaller updates has fixed anything. Today while visiting grandparents, my iPhone 13 mini was in my coat pocket, not in use. After a couple of hours, ready to leave, I checked for messages and the like, and my phone was HOT, and down to 22% battery, coming from approx 90% when I unplugged from my car. My wifes iPhone SE 2nd gen. has the exact same issues. The battery section of the phone indicates no activity at the time, so what the hell is using up my battery? Never had such issues with any previous iOS. Frustrated!!!

Mine doesnt drain while idle on my 14 Pro, it drains like crazy while using it or just browsing apps. Took it off the charger at 1030pm at 100%, woke up at 630am with 99%.
Do the same with less charge on battery, and post back the results. Mine tends to stay at 100% for longer for example

I am glad that I ran into this post!!! I literally thought my iPhone 14 PM was defective because I was on YouTube.com via Safari like 80% of the time so my phone was heating up like crazy and battery draining 1% about 3-4 mins each time. I am wondering if you updated to iOS 16.2 and whether or not the problem had been fixed, it sucks because I want to enjoy YouTube! I can't seem to find anyone else with this problem (or maybe they use the YouTube app, not the mobile version)

My short term assessment is that 16.2 has not changed this specific issue. YouTube’s website pushes the battery down fast.

This is my battery on 14 pro after updating to 16.2, I was miserable for few weeks after updating my 12 PM to 16 as I think the battery lige tanked by 20% so sold that and got the 14 pro. Huge battery drains all around but I disabled some background activity for few apps and removed some widgets and now I'm happy with the phone

Wow... that is disappointing. I am still on 16.1.1, going to hold back on 16.2 until battery test is out. I am actually pretty disappointed because I cannot use youtube website on safari to watch videos (I use the website version because I can block the ads). Same as you, device gets very hot and drains battery 2x faster, can't believe its not fixed. How is battery life on YouTube app using ios 16? I hope I don't need to resort to it because I hate the ads. I also messaged apple regarding this problem on the feedback app and no response....

I am experiencing significant battery drainage with the new software update that came out, iOS 16.3. Battery barely lasts me all day. I even restored my device through my MacBook. Anyone else having this issue?!

Surprisingly i went from 15.7 to 16.3 directly (I still regret updating now), but the one surprise for me was my battery life has actually been better on 16.3.. I have a 13 mini

Do you mind sharing your battery usage graph by app? It could be a rogue app. Additionally, if you recently did the OTA method to update, it could be the reindexing.

Personally, I went from 16.1.2 to 16.3 and get better battery life.

That's a lot of background activity. Also, is your cellular service always that poor? What was the deleted app at 15%? Also, what device is this? Did you restore from a backup or set up as new? How long ago did you do the restore?

There are a lot of questions that need to be answered to determine if its "normal."

Try disabling background app refresh, or limit it if you need it. Seeing instagram and Snapchat using background will affect apart of it. With that said, do you know what your Screen on Time average was in comparison to remaining battery power? 6 1/2 hours of usage with 35% remaining doesn't seem too bad IMO.

If you can, I would also enable wifi calling. My cell signal is low like that but my phone uses the wifi when it can with this enabled :)

Background app refresh is turned off.

I have seen this before but if that is the case, the instagram and snapchat apps might either be bugged, or accessing backgrounding regardless. I would ensure that neither app are available in the switcher when not using them, see if that helps.

On a side note, any app that breaks the background policy, I remove just on principal.
