No iOS 18 for me in the near future, maybe around Christmas or next year, if the critics are positive...
Same. Now that I’ve found a build of iOS 17 that runs well and battery is good, I’m staying there until I know iOS 18 is polished enough. Maybe for Christmas, maybe summer…

I think that when Apple ditches support for iOS 17 its a good choice to jump on iOS 18.
And since all devices that can run iOS 17 supports 18 they don't end up with the iOS 16 situation where they released fixes for devices for all devices on both iOS 16 and 17 for almost 3 months after the release.

We might see a different situation this year as they don't have to support older devices on iOS17.

If they go by last year it took them almost 3 months to officially stop supporting iOS 16 with patches on devices that could update to iOS 17.

I am really tempted to downgrade to the previous version of 17.6.1 this weekend. It's pretty noticeably worse compared to the previous version, I had thought it might get better but...

Luckily, I was able to downgrade my iPhone 15 PM to iOS 17.6 official release build (21G80) before apple stop signing it and it is way better than iOS 17.6.1 in term of battery life, performance and heat management at least for me.

With iOS 17.6 the performance is buttery smooth (no stutters like in iOS 17.6.1) and battery life is much better I'm getting +2 hrs of extra SOT compared to 17.6.1 (with iOS 17.6 i’m getting around 9hrs and 30 min of SOT unlike iOS 17.6.1 I was barely getting 7hrs of SOT). In term of heat management it is also better my iPhone is barley getting warm with iOS 17.6 not like iOS 17.6.1 in which my iPhone was getting extremely hot without any reason.

For those who are suffering with iOS 17.6.1 and willing to downgrade to iOS 17.6 .. RC release build (21G79) is still signed according to (ipsw dot dev) website.

Does it make sense to upgrade iPhone 13 Pro from iOS 17.5.1 to iOS 17.6.1? I'm experiencing poor battery life on iOS 17.5.1.

iPhone 15 Pro Max user here.
Since I have installed iOS 17.6.1 (build 21G93) the battery life became a problem: picked up the phone this morning (7am) with its standard 80% charge...by 1pm it was down to 25%!

I have noticed a significant raise in temperature and the battery setting shows that more than 50% of my battery has been absorbed by the bloody mail app... I have killed the app and put the phone on charge again. Tried with a hard reset already, but nothing has changed so far!

If the battery drain is caused by the mail app, I guess it's iOS version related. Any suggestion?

Why don’t you delete the Mail app, restart and reinstall?

Running a 13 pro, 256gb version with the "older" build and its as good as it was on 17.6 (good in my case).
So I say go for it.

One of the main benefits seem to be improved batterylife when on 5G for me, noticeable difference.

Edit: We have a mix of builds at work since staff has updated at different times. We have a mix of SE2, SE3, 11, 13 but most are iPhone 14 users. Haven't had any reports of issues.
But usage is mixed too, the SE users mostly use them in the office i'd guess.

I did go back to the original build of iOS 17.6.1 and although it very well might be placebo but, I have felt battery has improved.

I might go with a fresh start for iOS 18 in a few weeks.

Thank you for the feedback. I appreciate it. In my country there is no 5G and most likely will not be. Even 4G is not always available in Ukraine, because of electricity problems. So I can't always be tied to EcoFlow. Thought maybe in more recent versions will be better battery life. I will not update for now. Thanks again.

Considering the situation in your country and the threat I would have considered to update your phone asap.

17.6 contained a huge pile of security updates and are recommend to install.

Is there anyone that has downgraded from any iOS 18 beta to iOS 17.6.1 on a regular 15 Pro? If yes, can you tell me your Modem Firmware version (Settings -> General -> Info -> Modem Firmware)?
Thanks!

I am hoping for iOS 17.6.2 or 17.7. My battery life has been awful on this build over the past few weeks. Normally, I can charge my phone every 36 hrs. Has been that way for a while. Now I have to plug it in each night. I thought the first week it was just the indexing and all, but weeks later... its the build,

it’s so scary how much iOS 17.6.1 damaged my battery

the battery is draining quickly and the iphone is heating up

when i downloaded it, the battery was 100% healthy, and now it's at 95%

My battery health has gone down too from 96 to 93 % on this version of iOS (3 year old iPhone 13 Pro). But I've seen others mention similar things on iOS18 as well. Maybe a little nudge from Apple to encourage us to upgrade to the iPhone 16 😆
