All the data has been intact after the loooong recovery. Re-updating via IPSW to see if the second time's a charm.

EDIT: Second update attempt went fine without a glitch. I'd still caution waiting another day though especially if anyone's got a 13Pro.

Smooth update on my 13P

Keyboard lag is atrocious in this release lol just go to instagram and try to comment someone's post. When it's longer than 5 words, it starts lagging and when there's more than around 10-15 words it's literally unusable. I was typing on a keyboard and it was putting one letter every 2-3 seconds and my phone was immediately hot. I literally looked at my phone for a solid minute until it stopped typing few words.
Like is it really that hard for them to make a functional keyboard especially when people were commenting everywhere about the keyboard lag since 17.0? It's funny because I updated to iOS 17 only because they introduced swipe to type in my language and I guess that was a mistake that I decided to update lol

Does the keyboard lag and the phone gets hot only on Instagram? Because Instagram app is not known by its efficiency.

I personally have seen keyboard lag in almost every app where you're able to type anything but it's random, one time it's just a short lag and sometimes it's longer. It's especially happening when you type long texts but I don't do that often so I didn't care that much when it lagged for 5s but it caught me off guard when it lagged like that on instagram with just few words. And it has to be just keyboard issue because as soon as I went to different tab in instagram everything worked fine, I opened control center and it was fine, there was no lag in the whole system.
And yeah, I heard that instagram is not efficient but for me my 13PM heats up faster and more often in Safari (maybe that's because 85% of the time I use instagram just for texting)

It's probably in my mind but when I did the original 17.6.1 update via OTA, it became all choppy and my phone got hot quite a few times. Never really liked this update tbh.

Doing this re-release update via iTunes this time. Hoping for the best!

Let us know how it goes.

I think I’ll install the newer build, and if anything goes wrong, I know I can revert back to the previously released build. Hopefully Apple won’t stop signing the previous build, as it is still the current version.

Now Zollo saying he expects 17.6.2 at the end of this week or beginning of next week. Kind of weird with the new update and him saying it was doubtful last night

one more part I don't understand if they were still going to release it this week is why they sent us on a witch hunt to download the new ios 17.6.1 when we could have just waited for 17.6.2

Strange. Even stranger if it’s true that iOS 18.0 RC is around the corner… why so much hassle releasing two 17.6.1 builds, then 17.6.2, then 17.7 in September, right before iOS 18.0 release?

Honestly… I still have to update my devices and I don’t know which build to install, or keep waiting for the 17.6.2, or for 17.7…

yeah I'm so confused I'm thinking 17.7 will be an alternative option to Ios 18 but I could be wrong

Hey @Motionblurrr ! How’s the new build behaving? Same keyboard lag or it feels better?

Is anyone using the newer build of 17.6.1? I mean, iAppleBytes hasn’t published the battery test yet…
I installed the new build number (23G101) of iOS 17.6.1. I've been using it for 3 days. The system works a little smoother. There is almost no change in my screen time. In other words, there is no change in the battery usage time.

After iOS 17.6/17.6.1, my iPhone SE 2020 loses about ~1,5% of battery per hour in standby on Airplane mode, all apps closed, low power mode turned on.
I used Apple Configurator to install the new 17.6.1 build 21G101, but the problem persists.
I don’t have time right now for a clean install. Has anybody made a clean install of 17.6.1?

I did a clean install on my SE 2020 with 17.6.1 (21G93) via iTunes last week.
Then updated to 17.6.1 (21G101) via iTunes (full ipsw).
Seeing about 0,4% battery drop per hour in Airplane mode. And this is with Bluetooth on, which I forgot to turn off after it has been forced on by the update. Btw, 84% battery health acc. to system settings.
Even before the 17.6 update, it discharged significantly faster.

So, in your case, the latest build actually improved your A13 device efficiency.
I wonder if the battery drain could be related to the Intel modem, but in Airplane mode, the modem shouldn’t affect it…

apple don't seem to be worried about people complaining about the battery
Because iPhones are increasingly bigger and heavier with bigger and heavier batteries, and more efficient chips. It is an issue that mainly affects those of us who keep our devices for more than two years.

Sure, they prefer to sell you a brand new iPhone - for the bottom line...

...and i also think, they don't choose the best (costlier) batteries from Japan. Sony, Panasonic, etc...

Hey!

The phone feels much much smoother this time around so far. A few days/hours have passed so I’m assuming indexing is done.

Phone doesn’t heat up like it used to.

The only thing I’m not sure about is the battery life but I’m keeping an eye on it.
