I believe the developer beta access was either a human error or a glitch in their software. But once it was open, they had no way back. The rollout was not designed to go this way.

Evidence of this is that there would be no reason to send out the Appleseed invites to people if everyone would get free admission anyway.

As I said a few posts up, 17.0 is a pretty light update, relatively speaking. The fact that those of us on the iOS 16.6 beta got incremental vs. full updates to get 17 shows that. So 17 is more of a feature-rich 16.7 than a typical major release.

I wouldn’t count on this happening again. The lightness of 17 is almost certainly due to the resources diverted to get the Vision Pro out the door.

Is anyone able to use the stickers created in Messages in other 3rd party apps like Whatsapp,Messenger or Telegram? I'm only able to see them in Messages app.
I think the stickers will be a work in progress... I tried creating a new sticker from a photo and it seemed like it did it but then disappears.. and even using the stock emoji is problematic

Who knows: maybe the banking app issue was always the one thing that stopped Apple from doing the public beta at the beginning.

That doesn’t appear to be a problem this year.

Downloaded just in case my "dev profile" is somehow removed. Still not sure on installing. :)
I seriously doubt it’ll go away anytime soon. I’ve had the developer option ever since whichever version of 16 went away from requiring a profile to be installed, so Apple’s been aware of this for months. Oh, and I’ve never had a developer’s account.

Not a mistake.

If you have an Apple ID, you can now install Apple's developer betas for free! Previously, you needed to pay $99/year for the Apple Developer Program in order to gain access these betas.

Apple updated its Choosing a Membership page following the launch of iOS 17 to make "OS beta releases" available to "Sign In With Your Apple ID" users. This explains why non-developers have been seeing the iOS 17 developer beta show up in Settings > General > Software Update.

You can learn how to develop apps for Apple platforms for free without enrolling. With just an Apple ID, you can access Xcode, software downloads, documentation, sample code, forums, and Feedback Assistant, as well as test your apps on devices. If you don't already have an Apple ID, you can create one now. To distribute apps, join the Apple Developer Program.

I imagine this is more to do with 3rd Party App Stores that is required for the EU.

I've just customised a new Lock Screen, but if I try and change the battery widgets to a specific device no devices show, does it just need to index? I've only had beta 1 installed for about 20 minutes. Took ages for my health data to index and start showing, but I remember iOS 16 did the same.

Just checked and it’s like that for me, too. Could be either indexing or just a bug, not sure yet.

Has anyone found how you magnify certain party of a photo. On iOS 16 you sent in the photo. Edit markup plus magnify?

I think his point was that they couldn’t limit it and it was too late to change, so they spit out what you shared last minute. And by “last minute” I mean it could have happened in the last 7-90 days and still be too big to “fix” so they’re just letting it ride.
