Hopefully it will be picked up and resolved soon by Apple. For me AirDrop works fine between iOS 16 and iOS 17 devices for contacts, but goes random with “Everybody for 10 minutes”. Bizarre…
Is there a way to report this issue to Apple ?

Or do I have to wait until the next revision update happens ??

Bug or feature?

Syncing with iCloud Paused - poor network connection - then a blue 'Sync Now' button and its okay for 12 hours?

How can I stop this from happening?

Or it says something about low power mode on the battery - this setting isn't on either.

Am used to photos syncing straight away - this is annoying.

The first image is how configured standby mode to be shown.

The second image how it ends up looking when standby mode is activated and the phone is on its side.

Turned out to be a setting:
Settings -> Face ID & Passcode -> under "Allow access when locked", enable Lock Screen Widgets.

Having issue with AirDrop - no longer shows up on my iPhone iOS 17.

Mac Studio is Ventura.

Will not show any other nearby devices that usually showed before iOS 17.

Very annoying.
I’ve tested and have been able to AirDrop today in both directions between my iPhone and iPad (both devices on 17.0). However, the receiving device needed to be unlocked to show in the list of devices to send to. (I can’t remember if that was the case in iOS 16 as I rarely use AirDrop.)

In my experience, that has always been the case.

What does optimize battery have to do with iCloud syncing? It just stops the phone from charging past 80% until it thinks you will use it?
It will pause syncing of things like the photos app until it’s charged past 80% but I was getting it when my phone was well past that, at 90% or more.

I don’t think that’s related to optimize battery. The photos app for some reason just decides to stop syncing sometimes. I’ve seen a variety of reasons given: battery too low, phone too hot, optimizing system performance (what does that even mean and why is it always doing this?), etc. It’s like photos doesn’t want to sync anymore in iOS 17

Apple almost never documents changes in how iOS works. They barely document changes in the features of their own apps and almost never document bugs or bug fixes. It’s just the way they work.

If you ask Apple, iOS only has like 3 bugs which are documented on the developer portal. For example, I can’t use ScreenTime as it’s broken, but Apple says it works great.

Oh I’m quite aware of how they work. And it hurts them, PR-wise. But they have lots of lawyers and communications people who’ve probably thought through the ramifications of doing it the other way and decide to stick with the low-info approach.

In 17.0 HomePod no longer remembers the last radio station I played when I tap to wake it.

You can still report it by typing applefeedback:// in Safari. That’ll take you right to the feedback “app”

Which, based on 5+ years of reporting bugs that way, they will simply ignore.
Yep, gone are the days of of Steve Jobs actually responded to email. Feedback is a huge use of free manpower that often goes unappreciated. Just recently a huge security hole was reported, and Apple did not fix it for quite some time.. so the white-hat that found it made it public to force Apple to patch it up

That shouldn't be, not at all

The years and years of long-standing bugs and glitches in the ordinary system is kinda sickening (especially Mac-side)

BUT, it's the best eco-system out there! Such is life..

Not sure about reporting it, but I hope that the recent iOS 17.0.1 update fixes it. ✌️ Downloading it now and will try testing…

Update: fixed in iOS 17.0.1 👍

Does anyone know which models get Siri back to back requests? It works on my iPhone 12 Pro Max, but not on my iPad Pro 11 (1st gen).

Oddly the new type ahead features does work on my iPad even though it says it requires a 3rd gen.

Edit:

I checked the release notes and it says it works on the iPad Pro 11 (1st gen). It doesn’t work on mine. Is there some kind of setting for this?

Wait, are you sure? How is that even possible? I don't think the iPhone widgets on Sonoma use the iPhone as a "jump host", that wouldn't make sense...
Well, here is my logic...

The widget that I installed on the Sonoma desktop is from an iPhone weather app. When I right click on the Sonoma Desktop, click edit widgets, and scroll the list of widgets, the iPhone weather app appears on the list. When I click on the weather app, it clearly states "From iPhone" at the top right corner of the add-widget window. And, this is not one of those apps where the iOS version is installable on macOS, and regardless I don't have any form of that app on the Mac for sure. So, the only way that Sonoma is able to get the widget and update the data regularly (in this case a radar widget) is from iPhone. The widget seems to update every 5 or 6 minutes, give or take.

Also, some widgets that are listed in the add-widget window clearly allow you to choose from "On This Mac" (default) or "From iPhone" at the top right corner. Examples of widgets that give you the choice of Mac or iPhone are Calendar, Home, Photos and Stocks.

Something odd is definitely going on with storage and/or app sizing. On my 14 Pro with the latest iOS 16 I had about 50GB total used, after updating to iOS 17 it went to 119GB...

The difference was my app sizes, they ballooned significantly from what looks like a huge spike in cache size. For example, phone app 'documents and data' was 3.4GB which is absurd. Some people in this thread are reporting similar situations with other system apps.

Got my new 15 Pro today and a fresh iCloud restore, that seemed to have done the trick (so I assume uninstall & re-install would work for any egregious apps). However, the bar chart with the storage breakdown at the top still doesn't seem to accurately represent the installed app sizes, granted it's day 1 and may just take time to adjust.

Does anyone know how much space iOS 17 itself should be taking up?

Edit: Updated with an example of weird app sizing. First image show 499mb which is around what Cap1's app size is. Second shows the detailed info screen, with the app size showing 895mb...

When upgrading to my new iPhone 15, I was asked to sign in to my iTunes Media Apple ID (I use a different one than from iCloud). Normally I get a code popup on my other devices signed iTunes Media, but I didn’t.

I don’t know if Apple broke that or something odd happened during migration. Since iOS 15 though I used to be able to get codes sent to both my iCloud and iTunes Apple IDs. I hope that’s not broken.

It seems to be disabled on A12(X) devices? Doesn't work on iPhone XS either despite what Apple website says.
