Are we thinking 17.5 or even a 17.4.2. I’m very confused at the moment regarding the re release of 17.4.1. Even as a long time apple fan!

I am really hoping for a 17.4.2 to fix the iCloud tab sync bug, but the soonest I'd expect to see that would be next week if it happens at all.

Unfortunately, Apple has left bugs like this to linger for months without patching. I remember when they broke notification sync between Apple Watch and iPhone years ago, and sat on that bug fix for nearly two months.

The iCloud Tab/Bookmark syncing issue has been ongoing for a loooooong time. Hopefully you reported in Feedback.

No, I'm aware of that. There's a new issue that was introduced with iOS 17.4.

I’m not convinced there’s anything new as far as bugs go. This thread goes back quite some time, 60 some pages, all folks reporting something similar or the same.

And for me, it’s not just iCloud Tabs- bookmarks and reading list no longer sync. For me this includes two Macs an iPhone and iPad.

I used to have the old issue several years ago. This is distinctly different because the issue is that the iCloud tabs from a device don't sync only when you close all tabs on that device. So as long as you leave at least one tab open when you close Safari, it will sync everything. And that's exactly what's being reported by others, too.

Perhaps the cause is similar, but this is a new and different issue than before where tabs would linger for a long time or come back weeks after being closed and disappearing. As long as you close Safari with at least one tab open, all of the other devices show the correct tabs for that device.

Well then here’s to iOS 17.5 addressing some part of this. My iPhone and iPad tend to show the correct info, just one of my Macs now seems “off”. Hopefully we’ll know tomorrow!

For starters, even if we assume that Apple knew everything that would be required well in advance (they didn’t as in the case of iMessage), that doesn’t change the fact that they’re now having to do extra to make sure that they close security holes as they’re discovered now that this system is out in the wild in the EU. The changes they’ve been forced to make open up serious security risks, so it requires extra resources to stay on top of that. Also, the EU (and all governments for that matter) should mind their own business rather than trying to hand down silly edicts to private businesses forcing them to provide products or services that they don’t want to. As an American Conservative, that’s outside of the proper jurisdiction of government authority. Let the free market work. Consumers aren’t stupid, and if they think app sideloading is so important to them, then they can always choose to go with a platform that supports that. If they prefer the “walled garden” and the benefits that Apple’s system provides, then they can choose to go with that. It’s really that simple. Government intervening to attempt to make all choices essentially the same isn’t a win for consumers and their choices. It’s akin to the government requiring McDonalds to sell pizza in the name of “consumer choice”. Governments and their faux concern about “consumer choice” is an absolute load of rubbish. All governments care about is themselves and their own power… That’s at least my opinion, and you aren’t going to convince me otherwise.
I agree with you that governments in many aspects force companies to make changes that are not even necessary. An example is the insistence that messaging apps have to be able to send messages to each other, regardless of which one they are on. That seems stupid and unnecessary to me, unless they do it by law.
If the apps want to enable that feature among themselves, let them decide, but I don't use Facebook Messenger, for example, I don't see the need to be able to send a message from WhatsApp to someone who uses it, for example.
But they should not be left without a minimum of control either, because look at how long it took Apple to add the USB-C port. Having spent so many years stuck in a Pro model with an archaic port hindered the experience.
Finally, and I have already settled this topic to avoid further offtopic from the main topic of the thread, I doubt that installing apps from external stores represents a security breach. MacOS has allowed this for years, if not decades, and I don't think anyone doubts its strength and security, I don't see why it should be different on iOS. What will increase is piracy, which is what the developers and Apple itself do not want.

@MrGimper What do the fish and cat have to say?
I haven’t seen cat or fish all weekend as have been out over the Easter holiday. However my neighbour is their “cat and fish auntie” and she’s been looking after them. She said that cat 1 had knocked my desk calendar over in my office and had left a paw print on Tuesday 2nd April.

So, maybe….

have a good feeling about today... If not then I am convinced the new iPads are holding it up. Perhaps the new software will reveal the new front facing camera placement on the the new iPads... Even though it's already widely reported by leakers.
