That just cuts down my usable real estate by a third. Wouldn’t be keen
Does it? Clever designers work better with constraints. Anything in an app that is out of reach of my thumbs is frankly an ergonomic catastrophe on behalf of the creators.

And let’s hope all IOS 16 devices can run iOS 17. Otherwise I need to buy 2 new iPads in near future.

Well seems like iOS 17 is now going to be bigger than expected. I wonder what some of the most user requested features being added are gonna be? Place apps anywhere on the Home Screen? Split screen? Better notifications? Very curious although I was really happy with the initial plan of just focusing on stability and performance. Bring on WWDC!

Just would love:

• A customisable/user choice of the lock screen apps.

• Home bar setting to toggle visibility on or off.

• Stock apps icons matching MacOS.

• I’d love to see apps minimise into the dock, say the last 3 you’ve just used. Just so for quick flicking in and out of apps, fast. Or failing that, multitasking going into a grid mode visual option.

Would love to see iOS 17 not giving us more features, because who uses all the ones we’ve got anyway, but just tweaking and focusing on the apps and settings WE really want to see.

Agree with all but the last paragraph, in my opinion, new features are always welcome! 👍🏻

I know its early, but we are just over 3 months until iOS 17 betas start, lets use this thread to speak about things we would like and wish in the upcoming update.

For me its Split screen, New home page with new UI including 3d icons with shadows, interactive widgets.

A-HEM!

Double standards man. Is it really that important to be the first? 😆😂

Some additional security features would be beneficial, perhaps (I'm not an expert!) something like:
  • ensuring that nobody with the device PIN (only) could access the Apple ID and alter the password without an extra security step in the way;
  • ensure you need the OLD password to change your iCloud password.
That is a tricky one because so many people are hopeless in handling their passwords.

Please make it in iOS 17 where I can..

Lock or hide certain apps

Interactive widgets

Scheduled text messages

Let me move apps where I want on the screen

Disable the useless App Library

Refine focus mode it’s convoluted and not user friendly

More customization with the Lock Screen maybe a native theme engine (this is probably not happening with Apple)

I also want the lock screen to be a lock screen again, let us disabled the slide over feature and the long press to edit. I’m constantly finding my camera open or switching lock screens on accident as I take my phone out of my pocket. It’s ridiculous.

iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 may require A12 Bionic and newer

I have checked the base iPad models and there is no A11 Bionic version... iPad Air 3 uses A12 Bionic so it is possible that it will be the minimum supported chipset... Also, iPhone 8/8 Plus/X are all on limited support on iOS 16 and they may get dropped once iOS 17 is announced/released...

Maybe, they haven't dropped iPhones back to back years since iOS 10/11.

Plus it seems a little early to drop the X to me, and same for A10(X) iPads. The 6S got 7 iOS versions and the iPad Air 2 and iPad Pro got 8, the X has only had 6 so far.

Though on the other hand the iPhone 7 got cut at only 6 versions and 8/X would be the first non S models to stay on as the oldest supported for more than 1 year. It really could go either way.

Yeah, I think it would be a bit early as well, especially if iOS 17 constitutes a refinement release to fix bugs and enhance performance á la iOS12. However, after that release, for iOS 18, what @winxmac said has many possibilities of being true. The A12 was A major breakthrough just like it was the A14 and the A17 in the future.

TAP & HOLD: to Lock the Screen whilst playing Pepper Pig, so little hands can’t interfere on a car journey say. TAP & HOLD to active screen again.
