For what I’m understanding they launch then when it’s ready. We can see it this week or next, we will only know when they launch it.
Yeah, we all know that's the only truth, but it's too boring and not in the spirit of this thread 😁

So I will say ... tomorrow.
(Has anyone said Friday 21st yet? I actually think it will be next Tuesday but there's better odds on tomorrow.)

Regardless of the day to day hope of a beta, and looking back to 2011 for more hope 😆😂

… Anyone else quite bored of iOS 17?
I was excited B1 & B2 and now I just want the public release out so these last few bugs are fixed, and to be honest, not to wish my life away, but want the year to hurry up for iPhone 15 and iOS 18, so things don’t feel so “meh” recently, towards Apple.

And I really want to see a black aluminium MBP. Stop teasing us with this carrot on a stick, midnight blue.

Yup. iOS 17 feels like a very minimal improvement over iOS 16. Don’t get me wrong, there a lot of great quality of life updates and pretty innovative, but a lot of the features require your contacts to also have iOS 17 to benefit from them. And some of the features aren’t even coming until a later iOS 17.X update.

A lot of the things I was hoping for (bug fixes, better battery life, overall performance optimization) weren’t advertised with this release, and I’m certainly not noticing any of those improvements yet. But that’s expected given it’s a beta. Though I did have the best battery life I’ve ever seen on any iPhone in the beta 2 release, but that release was also riddled with bugs. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’m really ready to see what iPhone 15 series has to offer, but I’m kinda expecting to be disappointed on that one. Ugh.

Yeah, I'd agree with this. I'm not a fan of the new text autocorrect. Too many times I've wanted to finish a sentence and it just keeps going on and on when I double tap the Spacebar. I'm a fan of the new Messages + icon to get to stickers and apps and whatnot.. I mean, it's more exciting that iOS 16 🤣

Also of note: None of the optimizations are really in place yet. Those won't be in until the final beta or so and then the RC. We're still having more background processes occurring due to indexing and "beta" stuff that won't be present in the final release. And everyone is still seeing these beta builds as "normal". I would expect things to still get better & faster, more so as more apps can be released with any optimizations for iOS 17.

the new auto correct has taken abit to get used too, so used to not having to re read my messages and send away only to go back and read them and it makes me sound like a jumberling idiot with its corrections

Hopefully today is the day for something new and shiny

Actual optimizations aren’t coming until 17.1 release.

No, I'm referring to all of the "beta" code that's included. Things that force extra logging (that uses processing power and slows things down) among other things.

That’ll surely bring some boost but the x.1 releases seem to be the ones with improvements to stability. And by then major apps would’ve released updates for 17 too which would help.

I find myself going back and correcting sentences now, rather than the odd word... it's got worse. 😆😂

But love new + menu layout. I feel like its slightly is detached from the global design style of the rest of the iOS, but hope this is a thing to come. I think it's the 3d shadow feeling of the stickers icon thats got me excited for a fresh new look. Just the subtlest of lifts and it makes it feel more tactile. More fun.

Never been half way through a beta cycle of a new iOS release and wanted the next one so badly. ha!

Come on iOS 18, make is a banger.

My biggest beef with the keyboard is that when it suggests 3 words at the top of the keyboard, a word that is on the left side of the keyboard will then move to the center or right position. Which means that as my thumb is moving toward that suggestion on the left, the word I want jumps quickly to another position and I choose the incorrect word. It’s been like this for as long as we’ve had autocomplete suggestions. I’ve submitted feedback to Apple in every beta cycle, and yet the issue persists. If a word suggestion is going to remain on screen as I type, it should stay in the same place.

Same here. I was really excited about iOS 17 in the first days after WWDC, but now it feels boring. I can hardly see the difference between iOS 16. When it comes to iPadOS 17, there are more noticeable changes and it feels more exciting.

Historically early PB’s come a day after DB’s so we won’t see anything tomorrow. My “money” is on Tuesday and Wednesday. I guess theoretically they could do Monday/Tuesday for the betas and Wednesday for 16.6 but I don’t see it.

I have similar impressions.
Life certainly is a lot more interesting utilizing the other OS's. TBH I am not using IOS 17 for everything, probably most here aren't either, sure iOS got interesting functionality changes from WWDC 2023, but I have lot more interests with advances applied to IPadOS 17, tvOS 17, and MacOS 14 as those are what I spend a lot more time utilizing daily, particularly for knowledge fact-finding, news, and entertainment.

Scratch another day on the road to DB4.

Weekly betas are always welcome! We're not too far away. August is almost here. I cannot wait. :)
September isn't that far way either, which makes me wonder why Apple is not fixing issues that cropped up more in DB2 and DB3 for iOS 17. I was hoping for once they wouldn't do their 3 week lag but they did again to get the PB out.

Last week I had hope I could clear messages or calls without sometimes having to reboot the iPhone because the edit -> select user is not working correctly. Yes something as benign as clearing things in edit mode sometimes doesn't work. Sad.

So now we come to this new week, will Apple make some headway with improving basic functionality or just coast some more with DB4? I'll even dare to say I am enjoying iPadOS 17/tvOS 17/MacOS 14 more then iOS 17. 😎

First, you have no idea why Apple has the 3 week gap between betas 3 and 4. In my estimation, it’s because that’s what the schedule was and they are sticking with their schedule. What motivates the schedule, I have no idea. Could be that that gap affords them the most time to incorporate the fixes to things identified during the first two betas. Or it’s simply in recognition that people take vacations during the summer time. Or whatever.

Regular beta participants recognize that the progress of the X.0 betas is not linear in nature, from BAD to GOOD. At times, the software appears to regress or at least not make progress (as we on the outside perceive it). Again, although not completely giving Apple a pass on everything, given the number of times we’ve seen it work this way, we can only conclude that it is what is expected and perhaps it is even the consequence of other work they are doing, so is intentional.

If things go as they have in past years, we should start seeing some progress towards resolving the most serious bugs as beta 4 is released and continuing on through the RC in 6 weeks or so.

You can't put out the fires everytime someone complains about iOS17 progress. I am local to Apple, and extremely well acquainted with the company's software history/sites. Let's just say I am fully aware of everything you mentioned and hope that DB4 is the start of some progress. But it's a Sunday and it's been a hot week here locally so grumbling comes naturally against IMHO the OS that needs the most help with its DB3. :p
