hi everyone,
i´m getting more and more confused with the hole AI situation : from what one can read on the online articles 18.1 betas come with minor tweaks ( as expected) and 18.1 is mainly about the first batch of AI based crap.
Because if that is the case then the update is almost completely pointless for EU users ( or for anyone that does not speak English in general), right ?
Sure, there probably are bugfixes, ui tweaks and so on but if Apple doesn't give these users any visible incentive ... do you really think people are going to update ?
cheers

This beta works fine on my 13 Pro Max, not as smooth as iOS 17.7 but for a .1 that's still in beta it's totally understandable. I haven't had any resprings or crashes.
Few things that work bad for me:
1. photos app... it's buggy, it's messy, it's design is inconsistent, the animations are stuttery and it heats up my phone. They really need to work on it more, especially on older phones if it somehow works fine on 15/16 Pro.
2. Changing anything in Control Center is so annoying. I moved one control that was at the top and suddenly everything started moving and changing places. Or like in this screen recording, why are the other controls moving if I'm moving brightness slider down to empty space?

3. It's somehow the same with home screen, as soon as I moved one icon, the other were randomly moving anywhere.
Also I feel like there's so much wasted space in Home Screen. Not a chance to put another icons between them and the dock. They could slightly move the dots/search lower, closer to dock and another row of icons would fit. I mean even now they would fit. And why I'm able to put another row of icons below that calendar widget but I'm not able to move that widget by one row down? Was it always like that even on iOS 18.0 or just that's just 18.1 beta thing?

Updates are always good to have even in my situation of owning iPhone 11 Pro in EU which in any case will not get AI functionality.
IMHO even for Improved CC tiles and few minor translation bug fixes it's worth it. Apple Watch 11.1 also is told to have reduced battery drain which is noticeable right now.

Edit: But in current state of Beta jumping to Beta Train from 18.0 to 18.1 for daily usage is not good idea if asked.
Edit2: Apple gives a choice and I have only faced 1 back incompatible functionality on iOS 18 vs 17 - Medication with iOS 18 have possibility to set more detailed tracking than before and setting other than non-standard tracking (daily / on demand) is not compatible with iOS 17 / WatchOS 10

Had another CarPlay bug today. Was at a red light, listening to Pocket Casts, pulled my phone out and texted my wife. Audio stopped and CarPlay disconnected.

Also not sure if this is intentional or a bug, but the list of recently updated apps seems to be clearing itself daily. Can't see any history beyond the check I did this morning.

Only works however if you have text selected. So it’s really just a shortcut to the same tools you’d get with the context menu. But much easier to access.

So if I am viewing a Note it shows in the menu but does nothing:

If I select text in the Note then it is functional:

That seems kind of useless.

Works the same on iPad Pro with and without Magic Keyboard, and iPhone.

OK, this may or may not be new: if I use Siri to send a message using the command “send a message, “when the dialogue comes up with my text, there is a selector for which app I can use to send the message. The apps listed are Messages Gmail, Teams, Rover (the dog-sitting app!) and Dialpad (the conference calling app).

I don’t recall having options like these before.

Interesting I just tried it and iMessage came up. No options on which messaging app.

I said Siri send message and prompted to who?

Personally, I think beta five is a step backwards from a stability point of view compared to beta four. Spotlight bugs, many many resprings/restarts, random times when idle iPhone is way too warm, and a pretty serious battery drain. All reported. On the positive side, more consistent AI summaries in Mail and Messages.

I seem to recall the same situation when using Siri on my watch. I may be wrong!

Is this wireless CarPlay or wired? Brand of Car? I have a wireless CarPlay adapter and spoke a text to my wife while I was listening to a song. After the text was sent the music was playing but with no sound...I checked all inputs with no resolution. I closed music and reopened and problem resolved itself. Toyota Rav4 Hybrid..

This did not happen on my wife's CR-V...

Anyone ever having issues with wireless CarPlay on an iPhone 16 PM? Connects briefly and then disconnects. Wired works fine.

Using a 15 Pro here and I’ve had a couple resprings since I updated yesterday. Seemed related to 3rd party apps for me.

Not having that photos bug where it’s running at night. Checked the battery section and not a blip. I have over 4,000 photo and was plugged into for a few hours after updating. Hopefully it’s just indexing for those having that issue and gone in a day or so.

Overall, I’m happy with this beta so far.
