More problems discovered. Google home crashes. Ir runs fine on iPad OS 18.2 ß3, so I can control my HVAC, but not on iPhone.
I’m on the latest Google Home app and works fine for me on b3 using iPhone 15 Pro. Try deleting the app, reinstall and hopefully that fixes a cache issue or something. Good luck 🤞🏼

How does one “take a picture using playground”?

I assume the OP is referring to the “Take Photo” option that appears when you press the plus sign on the bottom right of the main page of Image Playground.

I haven’t tracked the actual data on it, but mine seems to last much longer between charges with my average use. I was charging my 16 PM part way through the day on prior versions. This gets me nearly 24 hours between charges.
I keep reading this beta has massive battery improvements compared to 18.1. Can anyone confirm?
The battery runtime definitely seems improved over iPadOS 18.1 on my M1 iPad Pro. There are some differences between iPadOS and iOS, but I would think the same is true of iOS 18.2, as I’ve seen others reporting improved battery runtime on the iOS betas as well. 👍🏻

I charge to 95%. I take my phone oof the charger around 3:30a. It's now 6:15p and after moderate use I'm down to 67%. When Image Playground came out and I used it pretty heavily I still managed only to get to about 29%.

For me it’s really annoying, yes. I prefer color accuracy when I edit my photos and switch back and forth between apps.. (I’m on 18.1)
I haven’t noticed any issues with this on my iPad running the current iPadOS 18.2 beta, so hopefully it’s limited in it’s impact and is fixed soon. 👍🏻

But in the app switcher? Who cares? The app switcher is there as a roadmap so you can find an app. You don’t edit photos there.

I could see if it were rendered in graytone but a bit of over saturation? Which I don’t see by the way.

It’s clearly there and bothers me too. It’s noteable and it does affect the app for a second or so too. This has to be fixed - I am also on 18.1

Then I suggest you post about it in the 18.1 thread.

I don’t mean that in a snarky way: this is the 18.2 beta thread. I’ve reported that it’s not happening to me here and I’ve not seen anyone else report it either for this beta. If it appears in this beta then it’s fair game.

Has anyone else tried asking Siri questions on CarPlay in this beta? Massive - and I mean MASSIVE - improvement. You can now ask questions like “When does Store X close?” or “What time is moonset?” and get a verbal response. Sometimes from Siri and sometimes with ChatGPT as the source.

No longer do you get “I can’t do that while you’re driving” as a response. I even asked when our local Dunkin’ Donuts, which is undergoing renovation, was going to reopen. Although it could not give me a definitive answer (as I knew it likely would not be able to), it still gave me a sensible answer and a suggestion to call the store (that part was not so sensible) along with the phone number. I should have followed up and asked it to dial that number. I’ll try that next!

This alone is a huge game changer!!!

I've noticed this as well. It's not a 100% of the time with the things I ask, but it's a marked improvement over the old Siri. Looking forward to seeing how much it grows in future releases.

Ok so Ii was watching a video on YT about the Sand River Lion pride and thought I'd use Image Wand to recreate the scene. Here are a few results. One is from ChatGPT. Can you tell the difference? 🤭
That’s… unfortunate. Apple has to understand that their guardrails cannot usurp practicality, productivity, and/or usefulness - these are still in (early) beta, but if they’re too heavy-handed with some of these AI features they risk relegating them to ”gimmick” categorization (see: MacBook Pro Touch Bar)

I think the issue is more that Apple's image generation is running on-device, with a very small model. When generating images online, you run huge models that cannot run locally on an iPhone.

That’s likely the case; my statement was more in general. It’s guardrails (of sorts) like these that kept Siri from reaching her/its potential. It’s a fine line to navigate, I’d imagine. At the end of the day, people will go to whatever works for them - it’s rare that they adjust their needs to “what X product can actually do”. That’s all. Plus, as I stated as well, we’re extremely early in these AI days as a whole, and for Apple Intelligence, we’re in the early-early beta stages still.

Has anyone else on 18.2 beta that app updates are extremely slow? I don't recall when it started, maybe even with 18.1.

When I have 10 or more updates, only the first app or two update quickly.

Oftentimes, the apps fail to update and even apps that I had tapped Update on and started spinning don't update, and when I come back to the updates screen the update button returns back to "Update" meaning the update never took place despite the fact that I tapped on Update.

Very annoying, Tim. You broke this. Fix it.
