I did a routine volume up then down then held power to shut down iPhone for no particular reason. After restarting I get this message .
Do you also pull the plug from the wall on computers and other electronics for no reason? Anyway that behavior is being logged now (or maybe always has been) and is viewable is some of these apps like iCarephone or 3Utools. States something like "number of forced restarts" or something alone those lines. Apple probably wanting to know how often a device is having the rug pulled our from under it. I think a regular restart would be sufficient if you are not locked up hard and forced to force a restart. Thats basically what Apple states as well.

How is the battery on 15 pro devices, is it worth it to update from 17.7.1?

It’s fine for me on my iPhone 15 Pro. To me the jump to 18.2 beta is worth it! What’s in 18.1 is good for the writing tools, the text, voicemail and e-mail summaries and the 18.2 beta takes the good in 18.1 and makes it really worthwhile for the much improved Siri experience with its ChatGPT integration.

If you’re nervous about battery life in particular you might want to wait until the official release or release candidate version of 18.2. It’s scheduled for release a little later this month but I’d have no problem pulling the trigger on the 18.2 beta now on the 15 Pro. Especially if the release candidate is put out this week as expected.

Hi all, apologies if this has been covered but I am in another country right now and haven’t had time to keep up with the posts here. In general my experience has been fine but my mail badges seem to be broken. For example I may have no mail badge or it may indicate that I have 1 or 2 emails. Upon opening the mail app I may have 20 or so unread emails. Seems strange to see a prominent issue like this at this stage in the beta, or is it just me?

Default behaviour is to only show badges for emails in the primary category.

You can change this.
I have categories turned off though.

EDIT: oh yeah, found the setting. Apple should disable this when categories are turned off or it’s going to confuse a lot of people.

Anyone on an iPhone 15 or 15 plus on Beta 4? I'm on 18.1.1 and even though the battery life is amazing, there's many real annoying problems---
---Photos at times takes 10 seconds to load.
---Taking a photo then texting freezes.
---Many site on Safari and Chrome get logged out every session.
---Keyboard freezes 3-5 seconds) at random times.

Is beta 4 stable? I swore I would be done with Betas for a while but 18.1.1 is acting like a K build...

Just wait till later today or tomorrow and you should be able to get 18.2 RC.

I’m not on 18.2. But I read the beta threads. I won’t be using the categories when I do update, but it seems to me the default option should be to show notifications for all unread messages even for those people who do use categories. The reason for this is that there might be an important email in a different category to ‘primary’ (or an email might be incorrectly put into a category when it should be ‘primary’) and could be missed. Then those who only want to see emails notifications for ‘primary’ can change to that option. It seems to me that Apple’s got the default setting on this one the wrong way around. Just my two cents, for what it’s worth.

I'm in your situation, though my issues with 18.1.1 aren't quite as bad as yours. Sorry.

My plan is to upgrade to the RC when it's released, probably today or tomorrow.

Good luck.

I'm getting tired of the continuous iOS 18 issues that don't get solved in any of the betas or final releases.

Issues I've had:

  • Keyboard disappears quite frequently. Could be typing up a text, or on safari, or Mail, or on just about anything and the keys just disappear. I can still type, but blindly. It is somewhat of an entertaining test to see how good I am at typing (almost no mistakes), but the fun is over and I'm ready for it to be fixed.
  • Resprings - this one seems like it's maybe fixed. I have not had any resprings lately on 18.2 B4, but I did on all versions prior at least once. I was getting them multiple times a day I think on 18.1. Hard to remember.
  • Apps disappearing from the home screen temporarily. This one hasn't gotten better or worse, randomly apps just disappear on the home screen. Have to slide away from that screen and then back and then they appear.
I can understand some bugs, but when they have been reported in Feedback for months and the same exact issues STILL persist? It just feels lazy and like they really don't give a crap about making things work.

I still firmly believe Apple execs don't use the same software the rest of us use. If I was Tim Cook or anyone else overseeing releases of products/software, this stuff would be fixed way before it ever made it to the public.

None of your reported bugs I experienced so far…
Did you thought about a fresh install?
Maybe it’s your device not iOS 18…
No offense, but maybe worth a try

The feedback app tells me there have been similar issues reported by others on each issue, so I was hopeful that these would be fixed without me needing to do that. Hate doing restores...takes me forever due to how I have this thing set up.

The resprings I definitely saw talked about plenty here, so I know I'm not alone on that one. Haven't really seen anyone mention the keyboard or home screen glitches though.

Here are photo examples of each:

Absolute worst case I can do a restore, but I'm trying to avoid it. It takes me ages to get all the settings of each app and such back to where I want them if I do that.

No one is questioning that you and others have had these issues. But with over a billion users in the Apple ecosystem, a million people could have the issue and it would still be less than 1/10th of one percent of the user base. They have finite resources and can only fix the most serious/most widespread issues.

Does anyone else experience the CarPlay map not centering properly after updating to iOS 18.2 beta?

My 15 PM is on Beta 4 and mail only shows in iCloud but not Gmail or personal. Is there a fix for this? I saw it mentioned several times but didn’t see a fix.

Edit—I fixed it by deleting my Gmail account then reinstalling. Also, my personal (business) account started working as well. Something was wrong with the SSL and password. Resetting fixed it.

The similar report count thing for the feedback I filed on the oversaturated screenshot bug now says “less than 10” rather than “none”. 🙏

The Siri-ChatGPT integration is great! It goes a long way on delivering the promise of a smarter, more useful Siri experience and I’m excited to see it improve over time and to see other AI engines like Google’s get integrated in.
My question is, if you ask Siri to ask ChatGPT, and you keep talking to ChatGPT, is your voice being sent to OpenAI?

Honestly, if I were you and was having as many issues as you are, I’d restore my iPhone with iOS 18.2 the day it’s officially released (December 9th or 10th), and install your apps one by one. If you think it may take you time, you can do it during the weekend.

I made a clean install of iOS 18.1 and I’m not having any of the issues you mention. Actually, it runs great and smoothly and efficiently on my iPhone SE3

Considering it. Just dread doing so. I have 455 apps…which I no doubt don’t need all of anymore, but I’ll still keep a lot.

Lol, as I’m typing this the keyboard just disappeared. Getting closer to pulling the trigger on a restore.
