I did not have this problem with my wireless CarPlay on 18.2 RC. You may have another problem.

CarPlay is heavily dependent on auto manufacturer support, both at the time the car is built and ongoing during the car’s use (7-10 years optimally). So many things can go wrong, both with CarPlay (and its continued evolution) and the particular vehicle (and its almost certain non-evolution, I.e., few or no updates).

It’s a miracle it works as well as it does.

Glad yours is working. I have an aftermarket Pioneer system that worked great on iOS 17 and 18.0 (and all the betas inbetween), but starting stuttering and crashing during the 18.1 beta 3 and up. I gave up troubleshooting it. Sometimes it would be fine for days, but then I would switch from Podcasts to Music and it would crash and not reconnect until I turned off the car. Or sometimes I would turn on the car and it would crash twice in a row and then work fine all day. But it is definitely an Apple issue. Bluetooth audio works fine. Android Auto works fine. I think Apple did something with the WiFi stack that made it more troublesome for some. The little audio pauses (more like a skip on a CD than a buffering) makes me think the audio is too high quality for the bandwidth or it's on a WiFi channel that is getting interference, but I don't know what else to try.

I hear what you’re saying and it may well be something Apple changed.

But at the same time, Apple can’t be responsible for how its software works with third party solutions forever. If it tried to do this it would become as laden with technical debt as Microsoft is trying to keep Windows running on thousands of different PCs and peripherals.

We’ve seen how that has turned out and it’s the reason many of us are on Macs.

It’s a slightly different story with the auto OEMs, as Apple does work with them both before and after hardware (head unit) deployment to keep them functioning as long as possible. And I’m sure money changes hands.

It is capable of doing other dog types (see below, both also based on photos) but you’re probably correct. Who knows what will happen when 18.2 goes public next week too. Apple may increase (start?) use of Private Cloud Compute, which should give these models a boost.

Yeah maybe it will be a case of constant incremental improvements - sure hope so anyway.

The mail app is a complete mess for me. Every account is taking forever to download, and checking for mail takes forever. Seems to be more of issue on wifi than cellular.

Yeah! Noticing it with both the Mail app, as well as Spark Mail app.

Gmail app isn't showing issues for now.

I've reached out to Readdle (devs of Spark Mail) to let them know of the ongoing issues :)

Anyone experiencing weird DNS-related issues with this RC-build? Hard to pinpoint, but ever since installing the 18.2 RC I've had to toggle between my secure-DNS profile and 'Automatic' setting to fix network timeout issues in Safari and some apps.

Installed 18.2 RC on my iPhone 16 Pro last night, all good. I just received an emergency alert regarding storm Darragh but I can’t scroll to read all of the information.

My custom NextDNS setup seems to be running fine on my 13P.
Slow sometimes due to private relay but no connection issues.

Reset Network Settings
You’re my hero. This solved almost all my issues with RCS, it’s staying fully connected now.

The only issue I’m having now is that my MacBook and iPhone keep randomly picking one of two seemingly duplicate group convos to reply to. I think I need to wipe my messages on macOS and do a resync from iCloud

On the speculation front, 17.2 came out Dec 11th last year, 17.2.1 came out on the 19th. So outside chance we get one more x.x.1 update before the holidays.

Pretty flawless on my 16PM. Never had touch issues, but did have a bug where white lines would flash briefly when unlocking the device spontaneously, and this seems to be gone now.

Question: if I turn off Beta Updates now, will I still get the public release of 18.2 (even if it’s the same build) next week?

I finally found a few free moments and switched my mobile network over to Verizon so I can try out this RCS thing. Everything feels pretty much the same so far but I do see the RCS label in Messages.

The build has to be newer for you to see it as an update. If it’s the same build then you won’t see it since you already have it.
You can always put it in recovery mode and plug it into a Mac to reinstall the latest update regardless if you already had it installed.
