I can confirm I haven't seen great battery life on 18.3. I have not experienced what I would say is average battery life at all on my 16 Pro on iOS 18 at all. It's been sub par, and 18.3 has been even worse thus far than 18.2. Very strange since there have not been any major feature additions to 18.3.

It’s a beta 1 and while there may be few new features, they didn’t release it with no new code.

Oh for sure, beta 1 so not expecting a ton on battery life. I was just comparing it to my experience with 18.1 betas, and 18.2 betas. I thought with this being the more “polishing” update we might see some improvements in battery life.

And 100% there is new code. Clearly this can all get better over time. I have done about every trick in the book and talked with Apple about my battery woes, and nothing has helped. Hoping 18.3 figures that out. I will be crossing my fingers throughout the beta cycle.

I’m quite intrigued with what did Apple change, tweak or add/eliminate on this new version, honestly. I guess we’ll have more clues in the second beta?

Maybe. Maybe not. It may simply be a Mountain Lion like release where they take the lessons learned during the first 4 months that Apple Intelligence has been in the wild (since 18.1 beta 1) and fix things and optimize code. The rest of the team spends their time preparing 18.4, which really should be the most ambitious part of Apple Intelligence yet.

If Apple’s vision is of an intent driven OS rather than an app driven OS they need to get that right the first time. They will not get a second chance if they can’t deliver.

This is exactly what I am hoping they do. I would much rather have them focus on making Apple Intelligence as smooth and bug free as possible before pushing anything else out. Honestly I think they knew all along that they would need to use 18.3 as a light update on anything new and to focus on making iOS 18 as optimized as possible. AI was always going to be a process that would require fixing and tweaking.

This morning I have started seeing a mix of light/dark icons in notifications.

Same but only with WhatsApp
Was looking around and seeing it in App Library too.
Reboot didn’t change anything noticeable.
This is from iPad Pro.

Also running into instances where instead of bringing up auto-populate or the option from either Passwords or Proton Pass, I am getting “Writing Tools”.

Adding to this list:
When I clear Notifications from the Lockscreen without unlocking the phone, randomly (?) the Notifications will pop back up on the Lockscreen. So far just Messages. Odd.

Anyone having issues with artwork not showing up on Spotify? Most of the time this is how it shows for me unless I restart the song then it appears. I’ve restarted my phone, reinstalled the app and still have the same issue. Not sure if it’s iOS 18.3 causing this. I reported it to the app a few days ago and even with their last update yesterday it still persist.

Currently on iOS 18.2 iPhone 16 Pro Max and am experiencing this with Spotify as well.

I changed the o2-de version for Germany from 58 to 61.6.1 in the first post and corrected it to lower case letters.
Seems it hasn't been updated for a longer time. But I don't know when this version I entered now was new. I never looked for it.

Modem Firmware is 6.01.00 for my SE2, in the first post it's already 6.01.01.

Should RCS work if it looks like that? I have no way to test it at the moment. I activated it already a few months ago.

And what are those Business Messages?

Any chance they're gradually making Siri stupider, so "Advanced Siri" will look incrementally better by comparison? I just asked "Can you tell me how much time is left in this podcast," and it gave me several websites to check out.

Weird bug just now. “Hey Siri” completely stopped working with the iPhone 16 Pro Max internal microphone. It only worked with AirPods in. So I restarted my phone, and I was able to activate with “Hey Siri” a couple times, but it didn’t register anything I said. And eventually I couldn’t even activate “Hey Siri” anymore.

So I think it might’ve been a microphone problem. I did a test voice memo, and other than me hating the sound of my own voice, it sounded fine. After that though, Hey Siri started working again. It’s as if the microphone was stuck or something.

Every update will have an impact on the battery life for the first few days, maybe longer depending on things like the size of your photo library, etc.

On top of that, depending on the goal of that specific beta, there may be more debugging level software running on the device impacting things like performance.

Oh very aware of all of this, but I am comparing beta to beta. Beta for iOS 18.2 was just the same on battery as 18.3.

This has been happening since iOS 18.

Camera

When I take a photo, in most cases any writing shows up crisp and clean. Talking about things like a document on a desktop.
However when I take a photo using a website (like vouched.id or banking), frequently the writing is blurred. This started with 18.3. Creates a mess when the software on the receiving end is trying to read the information for verification or copying to a document. Was refi-ing a vehicle for a much better rate.

The same site using my Pixel 9 Pro or S24 Ultra come out clear.

Suspect it is a camera software bug.

Additional item - Camera - photos are showing with a yellow tint in comparison to other devices and by eye. See attached. Left to Right: S24U, P9Pro, 15PM. The Pixel (middle) is pretty much what I see by eye.
During the 17.x betas it was more orange but significantly improved in 18. Now it’s back and yellow.

This is the surface of a chessboard in silver, gold, black and grey.

I would have liked to see them push a bit more of that “smoothness” and ‘Mountain-Lion’ approach toward 18.2, given its release proximity to the holiday purchase bubble, when millions will be opening new “AI-capable” iOS devices in a couple of days. I didn’t experience many myself, but there appeared to be a healthy number of problematic bugs still present in 18.2; I’d hate for that to sour people on Apple’s overarching iOS 18 plans. These beta cycles are inarguably some of Apple’s most ‘important’ in recent memory, as far as actual feedback is concerned. Now, whether people realize it or not, there’s a heavy feedback and “beta” responsibility even in the public releases.

I’m excited to see where Apple takes this whole thing for their customers and products/services…

That’s… unfortunate. But, no.

To elaborate, I don’t believe any company is above, well, anything. But I doubt Apple would take those steps - particularly when a heavy percentage of their hardware will likely still rely on the older Siri.

No. Where are you seeing this - in the Intelligence and Siri section? Or did you receive this message in an email? If the latter, I’d disregard completely. Sign-in (securely) to OpenAI and check for any notifications there.
