it is funny they auto enable Apple Intelligence on 15.3 and iOS 18.3, they wanna crank up those adoption rates.

I turned it right off :p

Feel like gambling with iOS 18.3 RC on my 16+ and mini7 and seeing how performance fares
I chose to not install Apple Intelligence (ever the oxymoron) on iPhone or Mac with last update, and nothing I have read in reviews since has encouraged me to think otherwise. Now it seems its going to be forced upon users with the public release of 18.3 - all so that we may fully experience essential products like Genmoji, Image Playground, Writing Tools, faulty notifications, a 'smarter' Siri and whatever other new "Squirrel!" distractions Apple throws in at the time. So pretty much, everything I don't want. Even with me not choosing to install AI, I still ended up with Clean Up in Photos (not nearly as granular as the - now gone -Retouch - especially if the app thinks you're trying to delete a face), and the sorting feature in iOS Mail that I turned off.
And while they say we'll be able to turn off Apple Intelligence off (not uninstall it), there it will be regardless, eating up (a minimum of) 7GB of storage, plus whatever it will demand of your iCloud storage, too.

Its like they're willing people to not choose to upgrade.

Or they assume most people will want to use some if not all of the features. I don’t need it to write for me, but I do use the proofreading and enjoy creating Genmoji.

Don’t like it? Turn it off. But don’t disparage those for whom it is helpful and/or enjoyable.

I really detest having the Playground app installed on my Home Screen with that lame Animoji icon after updating 18.3 and getting through the first few set up prompts.

Feels like watching spyware (even though I know it's not), or at minimum, bloatware being installed on my device UX wise. Really tacky. And then the huge banner in Settings telling me to check out photo whatever it is part of AI, and I click it in and screen is blacked out saying AI disabled and then goes away.

iOS is not as classy as it used to be.

Are these little things? Sure, but little things add up and Apple used to be obsessed with even the finest details.

I'm noticing much bigger battery usage by Home & Lock Screen on 18.3 RC (and 18.3 PB3) than on 18.2.1
It used to be around 12% average and now it's goes up to 30%, didn't go below 25%. I did not change any settings since then.

Edit: Forgot to write that it’s a 14 pro
That's excessive. Do you have a lot of widgets? I would try force-closing the apps that are associated with each widget and rebooting the phone.

Is the annoying color shift fixed in the RC?

View attachment 2474757

I find it interesting that anyone notices this, as I really need to go look hard. But no, it's not fixed in 18.3 RC.

I honestly think it's not considered a bug. I think every app can define in what color space it runs, and the task switcher has its own default color space. So whenever an app is shown in the preview that is using a different color space from what the task switcher uses, it will be slightly off. I don't see an easy way to fix that for Apple, if that's the case.

Then move it off the Home Screen. It’s not that hard. And a lot easier than writing a screed about it here. Sheesh.

It's about the experience / first impressions. Not helpful feedback.

FWIW, 18.3 is shaping up to be a nice release. Just wish they did away with some of the bloat, but that's an overarching iOS 18 theme.

I see them myself in day to day usage on an iPhone 16 Pro with a fresh install as new of iOS 18.3 beta via the ipsw.

At times, iOS 18.x acts as if low power mode is enabled and the stutter fest that is.

Granted, iOS 18.3 beta 2/3 and the RC are better, there are still stutters and dropped frames in certain repeatable cases.
Yeah I wouldn’t go as far as saying it feels like low power mode, but scrolling feels less smooth than with s24 ultra in places for sure - let’s put it that way.

It’s acceptable, but it really shouldn’t be the word we use when describing experience with the newest flagship iPhone.

It’s been this way for a while though. It’s an indicator of the lack of optimization these releases still have. Disappointing for this stage in the release cycle and how little in features we have actually gotten.

This can’t be the reason, because it wasn’t an issue before iOS 18.1. I highly doubt that Apple lets developers choose in which color space they run their apps since it creates so much inconsistency across the entire OS. But then again, I’m not a developer. Also, if your assumption would be true then at least some apps should run in the correct color profile. However, that’s not the case :( They really Need to get their act together. This is literally a reason for me to dump my iPhone 🥲

15 ProMax
Battery

Old/New issue - FindMy, which I have turned off, is back on the battery consumption list with only a percentage and no time. Anywhere from 2-4 percent a day. This was gone for a couple of betas, but it’s back.

After seeing your multiple posts about this single issue, I've finally been able to replicate it. It's only noticeable when switching from something dark to something that has full coverage of a bright color. The color in app switcher is darker than what the color will be once you switch into the app. I see no color changes when scrolling through multiple apps, only when choosing something with a lot bright color coverage. And at that, it's barely noticeable. If that alone is enough to make you "drop" your iPhone then....🤷‍♂️

Then for me it’s different because the entire content of an app preview in app switcher will be oversaturated. Not only full coverage bright colored ones. Profile pics, bubbles in messages, photo thumbnails, all of it is oversaturated until I switch to a certain app. Then it reverts to normal.

"how little in features we have actually gotten"? I think its more like "how little in features that you like." Slightly different.

On-device artificial intelligence is a huge addition to these phones, whether you like it or not and whether or not it is fully baked (which, I will admit, it is not yet). And it is power and processor-hungry. And you will find that to be the case whether you are buying an Apple phone, a Samsung phone or a Pixel.

This might be the automatic pinging that Apple does to identify AirTags in public.

But why does it bother you so much? You will only see the app switcher preview for a split second before selecting the app. In my opinion, ignoring it instead of dumping the whole ecosystem for a visual glitch would maybe be worth considering.

I know, but I work in design and it’s basically my job to spot the smallest inconsistencies in colors - that’s why I’m so sensitive to it :( I know that I’m in the minority with this but I always appreciated Apples attention to detail in hardware and software design. Given how many people work on Apples iOS team I find it quite frustrating that we have to deal with such an obvious bug for over 3 software releases now. Anyways, time to move on…guess this will not be fixed on iOS 18.

Did you actually file a very detailed report using the feedback assistant? They tend to read those, at least sometimes.

Pretty sure I didn't disparage anybody. And pretty sure they could have kept Apple Intelligence as a 'user-choice' installation, as 18.3 will still install on a deep pool of earlier iPhones. While some my find the product "...helpful and/or enjoyable", others do not (witness the low take-up of AI at the last upgrade), and see little value in using up onboard and cloud storage for it.
