Pretty sure I didn't disparage anybody. And pretty sure they could have kept Apple Intelligence as a 'user-choice' installation, as 18.3 will still install on a deep pool of earlier iPhones. While some my find the product "...helpful and/or enjoyable", others do not (witness the low take-up of AI at the last upgrade), and see little value in using up onboard and cloud storage for it.

Pretty sure you did disparage users by implication. Obviously Apple’s thinks this is pretty important to its product line going forward. So they’re going to do everything they can to encourage its use. You don’t get to opt out of Messages. But you can use alternatives if you choose.

Have any users noticed an increase in the temperature of their iPhone 16 Pro Max after upgrading to the latest iOS 18.3 RC version over the past three days? Even during simple tasks like web browsing and social media usage, the device seems to heat up without any apparent reason.

Which unfortunately feeds into Services and Sales, a priority on Apple’s side. For the user in an Apple ecosystem, you are pretty much stuck.

Yes, but Apple Intelligence adds apps a user may not want (and can't delete) and worse, embeds itself into apps a user may not want it to be involved in. Its not a standalone app. Installing 18.3 in older devices does not get AI - Apple is forcing the product on newer users. And yes, there are alternative AI (and AI-assisted) standalone apps available. For Apple, its less about user value and more about market share.

As for implication, Apple has traditionally relied on a fanbase that defends absolutely everything they produce, regardless of its intent, quality or usefulness. Questioning Apple's choices, I'm hardly responsible for how another user feels.

Still unable to receive sound alert upon receiving new mail. And yes, all mail is selected. All accounts and app deleted and reinstalled. Reported in Feedback again.

Please. There is a toggle in settings to turn it off. Do that, and voila, it's gone. The only difference in 18.3 is that the toggle is turned on by default.

I get that you don't like it. But many of the rest of us (and we are not all fanboys - trust me - we let 'em have it when they mess up) do like it and especially the promise of what it may deliver in the future.

Few days in and 18.3 has been the nicest release so far. My iPhone 16 plus feels like new hardware again.

It's absurd it took this long to get these performance levels, hopefully iOS 19 is less rough, but we'll see I guess.
No reason to get your hopes up as it’s the same thing every year. Change your annual upgrade to wait until the .3 release and you’ll get a much less stressful experience.

I have an iPad still on 17.0 to retain TrollStore and permasigning sideloaded apps and it’s butter

Things aren’t usually this bad. I think 16.1 was good to go too

15 ProMax
Battery

Old/New issue - FindMy, which I have turned off, is back on the battery consumption list with only a percentage and no time. Anywhere from 2-4 percent a day. This was gone for a couple of betas, but it’s back.
I have Find My turned on and it’s using less battery on my iPhone than yours.

Fingers crossed we continue to see continued optimizations in iOS 18.4!
18.3 introduced relatively few features. Maybe developers focused on tightening up the code for better performance.

18.4 is expected to add more features and more AI stuff. I’m guessing the focus won’t be on further optimizing existing features.

Maybe 18.5 will be feature-light and focused more on making stuff work better.

Meantime, I’m happy things are working so well for me on 18.3RC. (15PM here) I’m not excited for 18.4 right now.

18.3 RC is running smoothly on my 16PM and 12 mini. No complaints so far. Personally, my 16PM has been solid on iOS 18. Best battery life in years!

18.2.1 has been an absolute champ in terms of battery life for me on 15PM, and this is despite ludicrous amounts of corpo bloatware I have to run.

Can anyone comment on 18.2.1 vs 18.3RC battery life on 15PM specifically?

but if you turn it off, does it delete everything you downloaded or just hide the AI features?
