It would be so helpful to have an Activity Monitor on iOS/iPadOS…
Finally figured out what this was from process of elimination. I had recently switched to AdGuard and for some reason using the DNS feature was doing it. Since turning that off it stopped. I’m now using the native dns and it’s also fine.

Something has changed recently, whether Apple changed something at their end or I have a rouge app. As at bit of background I have a shortcut that puts my iPhone into Low Power mode at 22:30 until 07:30. Last week, on 18.01 I would still loose 2-3% battery charge in the low power window. However, the last few nights the loss has increased to 5-6% and I don’t know why. I don’t use standby. I have even tried switching off ProMotion as someone her suggested, but it didn’t make any difference.

may I kindly ask if ios 18.1 resolves the battery draining issue on 16 pro max ? (E.g being warm on idle , or noticeably hot while light surfing such as swiping on home screens and going to setting)

If not I’ll just return my phone before the 14 days period. I hope someone would be willing to share their experience!

iOS 17 is so much better than iOS 18 for battery life. I wouldn’t upgrade.
I couldn’t agree more. Just took my 16 pro max off the charger and within 31 minutes of doing nothing and then accessing macrumours right now and browsed some other threads, I’m at 95% battery now.

Has anyone tried charging to 100% without any limits or optimized charging turned on? I'm curious if there’s a bug related to the charging limit and whether the battery is functioning correctly. This is just one of many theories.

I can't understand how some people are getting good battery life on iOS 18.

Sucks, I really can't figure it out. Did you charge to 100% with optimized charging turned on?

Idle battery drain has returned to garbage status. The only thing different between the two images was that in the image on the left I completely shut down my MacBook overnight and on the right I left it in sleep mode but plugged in). Biggest culprit continues to be Home and Lock Screen. So maybe it wasn't screen mirroring but the fact that I shut down my computer? This has been incredibly frustrating. I changed nothing on my phone between iOS 17 and 18 and seeing as the ONLY thing popping up as using the battery is Apple's ambiguously named "Home and Lock Screen" it would appear to be a fault with Apple. Maybe it's limited to only certain people with a certain set of criteria but I'm about as ideal an Apple customer as can be (Mac, airpods, homekit, ipad, Apple Watch, etc.). I think they've lost the plot in their pursuit of shareholder returns and flashy pre-recorded demos rather than focusing the things that made us trust them in the first place like stability, reliability, and ease of use.

I could literally see my battery percentage drop like flies . A single game of team fight tactics took a chunk of battery from 97% down to 83% within 25 minutes. This is ****in crazy. And my phone is hot to touch as the heat bypasses the nomad modernxleather case and my screen is hot too.

I completely agree with this. The factors that made the iPhone solid and highly recommended were its dependability and the "it just works" mentality. However, I cannot rely on my iPhone 16 Pro to last the entire day, which has not been a problem with iPhones for a long time—if ever. I am not a power user, and I do my best to take care of my phone. Not being able to depend on my phone's battery has left me disappointed. For the first time in years, I find myself doubting my choice to purchase an iPhone. Apple needs to do better, starting with acknowledging that there is an issue.

The heat has to dissipate and leather’s not known for.
If it’s a resource intensive game and not optimized enuf that only makes it worse. Nothing iOS can do.

18.1b7 has been better on 16pro. Not great. Occasionally it sips battery. Then out of no where it’s hot and I could cook an egg on it. This happens while using the phone and while sitting idle on my desk. Can’t find a correlation to anything. Hoping it’s just 18.1 settling in after the update yesterday but I’m not holding my breath.

Even did a reinstall via IPSW. No change. Phone was set up as new and not from backup. Still no idea what’s causing the issue.

Kirby- I charge to 100% with optimization. Just to add another datapoint.

You think the exchanged iPhone comes with a secret iOS version that solves magically your issues while you do everything that’s gonna heat up the iPhone?
My thought process is that I bought the iPhone 16pm too soon. I should’ve waited until ios18.2 before I switch from my iPhone 15 plus to 16pm. iOS 17.7 was truly stable and my phone ran ice cold

iOS 18.1 Beta 7 is even worse. I'm downgrading to iOS 17.7 while apple is still signing it. If this doesn't work out, I'm switching to Samsung. For context, today I only listened to music for 2 hours, very light chatting with iMessage and 10 minutes of browsing in safari. Everything is disabled (location services, background apps, rise to wake, pro motion) Battery dropped from 100% to 50% in 10 hours with that use. Completely unacceptable. This is the iPhone 14 Pro with battery life at 91,4% (swapped roughly 1 year ago).

Your thought process says wait until 18.2 is released to order a new iPhone but your actions say you’re abusing a policy. Hope they don’t ban you for too many exchanges.

Why don’t you set it up from scratch or an iCloud backup?
My 13P lasts just fine with 90% health and I don’t have anything disabled except background app refresh.

I've done that multiple times to no avail. Funny thing is that both my partner and brother have the 13 Pro on iOS 17 and they're getting anywhere from 2 to 3 times the battery life with everything enabled and doing much more than just listening to music. My other option is to smash it with a hammer and claim apple care to get a full replacement. I will definitely use all my options before switching to Samsung. But one thing is for sure, I'm not going to buy another iPhone.

I switched my settings to allow charging to 100% without any limits or optimization. Over the next few days, I’ll charge it fully a couple of times and test it out. I won’t charge overnight to avoid damaging the battery, but I’ll plug it in when I need it at 100%. We’ll see how it goes.

Just to note, every time I’ve used optimized charging, it hasn’t worked well for me.

Keep us posted on iOS 18.1 B7. Curious if beta 7 is gonna correct this or not.

Well I can't roll-back to iOS 17.7 - Since I own the recently released Apple Watch 10, it's no longer compatible with iOS 17 - So, again I wiped my iPhone and installed iOS 18.0.1 - Let's see how this goes (again) on a fresh install. I'll keep you posted. (iPhone 14 Pro - battery at 91,8% checked via Coconut Battery)

I have done the same. Tried not restored from backup or iCloud and have had no discernible improvement. I’m at a loss.

At this point I am starting to wonder if there is something in my iCloud profile that’s corrupted that causes background issues. Since the problem seems to keep following me and the only constant is logging into my iCloud account. But I have no way of digging into that or testing my hypothesis without abandoning my whole iCloud account.
