A few days with my 15PM on the final 18.1 release and I feel my battery is slightly worse than the RC. This message also keeps coming and going.
Could you show a example day?

I charge my 15 PM to 100% with optimized charging over night.

Took off from charger at 7am now it’s 3:07 pm with 73% battery life left.
~3 hrs SOT

That's great battery life! Hope this continues for you.

4hrs SOT with 58% battery life left - do think this is really solid - will get my 5-7 hrs SOT easily today

My battery life is still better since my tweaks. I am now on 18.1. Only thing is it gets mildly warm once off wifi and travelling around. Something clearly chugging in the background but no apps visible. Might be location or cellular I think. Am I the only one noticing a degree of warmth?

Which iPhone?
And which tweaks?

My heat problems almost gone completely since 18.0.1 and now with 18.1 it’s still cool to touch.
Only when I charge it up and use it at the same time (even only when I look at my homescreen) it gets a bit warm

Posted I think a couple of days ago here. Might not be related but was setting to 4G and then after a restart switching back to 5G Auto. I am iPhone 16 but the warmth is felt on the back of the phone when I leave the house and not using it. It is clearly something cellular or location related but no idea what or how that should be fixed, or even if this is normal.

How are you that sure about it that’s related to cellular or location settings? It could be also not optimized apps working in the background.

I had the thought of it being unoptimized apps in the background but I actually restored my phone and didn’t install any 3rd party apps for a while. After the initial surge of setup background activities ended, the drain I saw what the same as it was before the restore.

Could be. True. But nothing showing running in background app wise. Plus it doesn’t get warm whilst at home on WiFi. But who knows.

Hmm ok that’s definitely a point which can’t be ignored - tried only 4G ? Maybe it’s warm because 5G?

Do people have AOD on or off? My battery has been mediocre, but I turned off AOD and it seemed a little bit better.

But it’s weird because I normally have my phone in my pocket or face down like 98% of the time. I never put it face up. So I’d imagine the AOD display is rarely actually on. My only thought is that maybe the sensor to turn the screen off is running, and that’s causing drain.

My phone has been off charger for about 7 hours, sitting at 78% battery with 1 hr 30 min of SOT. It’s not awful, but not great. This is all on WiFi at home.

I might try again but it felt just as warm on 4G the other day before I reverted to 5G Auto.
(AOD is off here btw)

6 1/2 hrs Sot with 42% battery left - from 7am to now 7:58pm - guess I will go to bed in a few hours with maybe 30% left or so…
Complete day with mediocre to heavy usage

In the two days after updating to the final 18.1 you can see that the battery usage has increased/got worst. Sunday for example which started with 95% limit had slightly more screen on time & used less battery vs today from a 100% charge.

Yep. Mines still showing today and battery life is still worst than 18.1 RC for me after nearly 3 days. Hoping phone sorts itself out and settles down soon!

I’ve been on 18.1 for a while and it doesn’t get better. It might be due to Apple Intelligence. Do you have that enabled? iOS 18.0 had better battery life.

I don’t have Apple intelligence on, I’m in the UK so don’t have it yet! Battery life on the RC was better than the final release. Why did they have to push a new build lol

That’s what I was thinking too…
And my Apple Watch is also battery life worse than before

I confirm that the message inside the battery sector regarding the update in the background disappeared after 2 days and at the 3rd day the battery of mine returned back to normal expectations as it used to be (14 pro) with 18.1 so all good … but I made some restarts and all is fine now and hopefully it will be fixed for everyone

For some reason background indexing never appeared with both the RC and Final versions

I left my phone off the charger last night. Drained 6% overnight. Saw "Home and Lock Screen" periodically appear draining battery. Screen was off and the phone was face down.

Curious if anyone has push enabled for the Mail app?
Or widgets?

I don't remember seeing Home and Lock Screen appear under battery usage until a few months ago and I've been using the same Home Screen and widget setup for ~2 years.

~3hrs SOT with 78% battery left - 7am disconnected from charger now it’s 1:03 pm
Seems like you are on the positive side of this battery journey.

Yesterday, I had a call with a senior advisor who confirmed that there was indeed an issue. He expressed surprise, as he had never seen anyones home and lock screen so high without excessive usage. I didn’t have that problem. We’ve now developed a plan. I’ll let my phone drain to 1% and then fully charge it back to 100%. After unplugging from power, I’ll take screenshots of my battery usage page. He assured me that all this data will be sent to engineering in the form of logs. Said it would be tons of data for them to look at. It seems like there’s a genuine plan in place, and it confirms that my concerns aren’t unfounded. There appears to be a software issue at the root of this problem.
