Yep, I have literally tried every trick in the book. It’s 100% software on Apple’s end that needs to be fixed. Optimized I guess is the correct term.
Sure seems to be the case. I am at the tail end of my experiment of using a brand new phone and not signing into iCloud and periodically adding different layers of data and apps.

Unfortunately I saw practically no difference between battery usage between:
-my original 16 pro with all my data and apps
-my new 16 pro without being logged into my iCloud account
-new 16 pro with iCloud account signed in but no downloaded data or apps (messages, reminders, contacts, etc)
-new 16 pro with all my iCloud data but no apps

This was an absolute pain but at least it seems the issue is not tied to something in my apps or iCloud data. Just have to provide feedback as best as I can and hope Apple can optimize whatever in my usage patterns is causing a lot of drain.

Oh, all of this was done on 18.1. Tried 18.2 before all this testing and saw some improvement but for consistency sake I used the released version.

Oh wrong post. Edited.
But the battery does suffer in cold weather, and the new 3nm chips made the situation just a little bit unbearable, due to less heat from daily operations to keep the device warm, lol.

iPhone users, time for follow up. Has :apple: reached out to you regarding the issues y’all reported to AppleCare then to Apple’s software engineers? Lmk.

I guess it's having the iPhone turned on.

I mean, the whole stuff doesn't make any sense at all to me and looking at what you have tested ... it even makes less sense ...

Checkout the stats for my weekdays (MDMDF), I've basically the same usage pattern for all days and still they differ so much. (Idle usage is 90 % Teams-usage)

Just received my Apple Watch Series 10. I installed the last beta 11.2 beta 3 and charged it to 100%. 24H later I still have 60% of battery. This is really a game changer if I compare to my old Series 6. I'm very happy.

Hey guys! I’m typing this from iOS 18.1!

Last night I finally performed a clean DFU install of iOS 18.1 on my iPhone SE3, which was running iOS 17.6.1 up until yesterday.

After the installation, I left it plugged to the power during all night, and during the first hours I slowly opened the integrated apps like Notes for them to sync all the content, one app at a time.

After all night plugged to the wall, this morning the iPhone was fresh and I hope it had done all the needed processing. This morning, while still plugged in, I’ve installed the blockers and extensions I usually do (like Wipr2 and Vinegar), and let it settle a bit more, opening Safari to sync all the favourites and favicons. As you can see, this is almost like a ritual, which I really enjoy and gives me peace of mind.

After unplugging it, I’ve been using it all the morning, with the result of 88% after 2 whole hours of usage at a medium brightness. If you don’t believe me, here’s a screenshot:

It just dropped to 87%. Only used on WiFi.

For a small device like the SE3, with a degraded battery at 88% of battery health, I think this are really good numbers. So far, so good!

After the iOS 18 update, I have noticed faster battery drain, especially if your iPhone's battery health is under 80%.

Battery health or battery life? If health it’s clearly your battery because under 80% it’s not capable doing very well

I’ve been posting this on other thread but apparently some of us have the same issue with idle Battery drain. A couple of days ago I didn’t use my phone much to see what was causing it and found that it was Find My working in the background even when I was sleeping. The attached pictures are before I turned “Find My network“ off and apparently it helped by stopping the functionality to work in the background as before. My wife’s 13PM doesn’t behave the same way as my 16 Pro with the same Find My settings enabled.

Good job for all theses tests, it takes a long time ! Did you tried without iCloud connected ?
I think you're right when you speak about the "usage patterns". It can really be different between two days...
I feel exactly the same as you.... Sometimes, I am very upset about my battery and sometimes it seems good...

On Friday, I tested without bluteooth and it was very very good so I don't want to target iCloud as the culrpit (it vas my first suspect !). But once I said that, I don't know any more about the cause!

After initially improving in the days after the update to 18.2 public beta 2 last week, battery life on my 15PM is disappointingly poor! Mainly WiFi today. Been giving it a top charge in the evenings to prevent it going into the red 🪫

I can’t believe what I’m experiencing. This may be even better battery life than on iOS 17, wow!

IMG_0014.jpeg

What you’re seeing here is five hours of activity (screen-on-time) including the installation of WhatsApp and the download of the chat history, and mixed use with 5G data. Five hours. The remaining battery is 49%.

Doing a quick math, this points towards ten-****ing-hours of screen time from 100% to full discharge. Amazing!

If performance remains this ****ing good during the week, I’ll install 18.1 on all my devices. Woah.

Device is an iPhone SE 3 with battery health at 88%. My usage never includes battery draining apps such as Instagram or Facebook or X.

I think that's because how you charged it with slow charging.

I also charged my 15pm with a slow charger and the battery last long than charged with MagSafe

With the last 3 updates I'm not seeing background indexing at all.

Anyone with similar experiences

Pretty standard battery life for me yesterday. Almost 50% used with only 2h 23m screen on. Last resort was setting up as a new phone last week and that changed nothing. Background app refresh is off, always on display is off, no widgets. Getting about 1/2 the battery life of my 13 Pro Max which had background app refresh on, and weather widgets on lock and Home Screen.
