Unfortunately everything you add to your phone drain your battery. Do you have AirTags? The more you add the bigger drain you see. Especially overnight. 8% overnight is a standard to me. On 15 pro 16 pro doesn’t matter. It is clearly on iOS. Same with Home Screen/Lock Screen which can be the most draining thing on my iPhone. Why? No idea. Yes I have few widgets but even people without them have same problem.

To an extent you are right, but when all apps are the same as in ios 17, it makes zero sense they use more battery in 18.

It proves that iOS 18 is worse than 17. Apple doesn’t care that much about optimization. Beside new chips in 15/16 pro aren’t that efficient as Apple said before.

What has been frustrating for me is that these are all new issues after the iOS update and/ or phone upgrades. I understand AirTags, background app refresh, widgets, etc., all could be draining the battery faster. It’s just that it wasn’t an issue on my 13 Pro and it is an issue now on the 16 Pro, and I have no way to roll back to an old phone or old iOS.

So for context, the past 9 days I've been using "low battery mode" 24 hours a day in order to get some performance, which resulted in 3-5 hours of screen on time in some cases. However, as we all know, that mode disables ProMotion, email fetching and other features other than making the phone slower than usual. Today, I decided to use my phone as intended - without that low battery mode.

As you guys can see, half of my battery flew out the window in exchange for 1 hour and 7 minutes of screen on time. The only 'crazy' app I've been using is Discord, and even so, only for 43 minutes.

Tired of this BS, I reached out to Apple Support, I went through the chat (which took forever), and finally some nice lady from support rang me up. She remotely connected to my phone and went through some options (I had already checked), such as Auto-brightness, background refresh, etc. I also mentioned (as I have also done here), that I've installed fresh versions of iOS 18 many times without restoring a backup. We went through my APPS (which are only 27) and the lady was puzzled and speechless.

She clearly understood that this is something wrong, but as for her understanding, at a software level. They ran the diagnostics and (as expected), nothing showed up.

She told me to not use the low battery mode for the next three days, to take screenshots of my battery chart each day and that she'll call me up on Thursday to check.

It's funny because she was very puzzled to see such poor performance, but I've been living like this for quite some time.

That said, I'll do what they told me and post back here with whatever news I get on their behalf.

Good luck. Went through the same process with support for the engineering team to tell me they needed just one day, and it be exactly on that day that they checked it. I gave up after 4 calls with them. Clearly they have no answers and are just giving me the run around. I don’t think they will ever fix this.

I have a strong feeling it's the same BS for me. Like, let's be realistic here, what are my real options? It's not like they're going to develop a single patch for me and my silly issues. Nor are they going to super analyze my phone to double check if everything is perfect.

Honestly, my best bet right now is, shortly after this show ends, I might just crack both screens and claim apple care+ getting a whole new unit altogether.

This is a day-1 unit and there could be some super minor flaw. It's been underwhelming since day one (+2 years ago).

Thanks for your support nonetheless, much appreciated.

@TexasAggie013 tried a new unit with AC+, and the results were the same as the old unit.

Sad but true. Engineering took a look at my logs and told me that everything looked normal. But keep trying! Maybe if enough of us keep raising the issue, some of the higher ups may see the trend of unresolved problems and start asking more questions. I get that even Apple has a finite amount of resources to throw at problems. They can’t chase down every individual users problems, but maybe if they see there are lots of folks on this boat it will make it worth their effort to fix.

My new unit seems to maybe be slightly better? But nothing like what I’d expect from the newest iPhone. It’s not substantially better in a way that would make me think there was something seriously wrong with the first.

Very interesting message in the battery settings on 18.2 DB4. Never seen this before. Also, total garbage, if anything I have been using it less. Also I updated a week ago, so if the update is still being applied this long Apple really does have some issues.

calm down, nothing wrong with this..I had this message on my old phone 13PM when I had nothing to do at work, so I spent almost 12 hours with the phone in my hands 😀

Calm down? I am not upset. I have not been using my phone like that though. My phone has been being used just like it always has been.

View attachment 2455798Been getting crazy bad battery life on my launch day 16 Pro, and also got the message in settings. Noticeably bad standby drain etc.

I think Apple is throwing this message up as excuse for bad battery life. We aren’t using our phones anymore than usual. In fact, I have been extremely busy at work the last couple of weeks, so I have used my phone way less.

Something is definitely not right with iOS 18.*.
I already got used to charge my phone at least twice a day.
No more to say, the graphs tell the story.

Getting good results on my 13 pro and 14 on 18.1.1.
Its roughly the same as 17.7.1 (didn't have time to check with 17.7.2).

Have also turned off "app privacy report" logging that I have had enabled for ages, not sure it has an impact on battery life tho.

So, good work Apple regarding battery life on iOS 18.1.1 :)

Strangely today I get very bad battery life so far with my 15 PM - nothing changed in my usage…
Already down to 76% from 100% at 7am now it’s 2:27pm but only 1 1/2 hrs SOT…

I had something similar a few days back…did a reboot (holding down power plus up/down volume) and it was fine. I have no idea what happened either ….15 plus.

To tell you the truth, I'm already frustrated with it. Here is my story:

16 Pro Max
Had it for 2 weeks, but could not achieve more than 4h SoT and 50% battery usage. The unit was working under 18.0.1. I returned it. Manufactured in September (phone and battery).

16 Pro 128
I bought it directly from Apple. My max SoT was 6-6.5h (and the phone was unplugged at 7:00 AM). At 9-10 PM, I had 20% battery left. I returned it to Apple because I saw people here and there with 5h SoT and 50% battery usage. Manufactured in September (phone and battery).

16 Pro 256

I have had it for more than 7 days. I feel the battery doesn't work as it should.

For example, I disconnected it today at 7:00 AM, and after 8h, 30 min SoT, and 1h idle, I have 89%. But at the same time, looking at the history, I can't achieve 5h SoT and have 50% battery remaining. Doable is 4-5h SoT in 80% of battery life. I use 18.1.1 now. It was manufactured in October (phone and battery).

Settings:
- 5G turned off
- AoD turned off
- background apps turned off
- rise to wake up turned off
- 40% of location services - turned off
- I conducted a new installation each time I was configuring a new unit (DFU > restore > iCloud > no backup).

I'm not sure if it's a problem with the phone itself or the software. I find it hard to believe that three copies are defective while produced at different times. I don't know if it makes sense to replace the device again, and I don't understand why some users have such nice battery life and such performance and other users have poor performance. In my case, I can estimate from the charts and battery history that I won't reach more than 6h SoT after using 80% battery.

Did this already two times, seems like it’s not better though, iPhone is more warm than usual too - strange behavior
