So for me the Translate app was hogging all my battery. I've not used this app at all since updating to iOS 18 but it's running in the background throughout the night! I've uninstalled it and my battery seems like it's back to normal.

Anyone else noticed this??

edit: I have now reinstalled it to see if that fixes/replicates it.

Update... uninstalling and reinstalling the Translate app stopped it running in the background all the time. Battery life is much improved (back to normal) for me.

Have noticed my phone still get warm during some normal use which is unusual.

Left my phone on charger over night, it’s set to 85% limit - I guess it was recalibrating this time - it charged up to 100% but charged the whole time? That’s not the normal behavior right?

This is explained on Apple's website.

With 80% Limit enabled, your iPhone will occasionally charge to 100 percent to maintain accurate battery state-of-charge estimates.

Make sense that it applies to any charging limit (80%, 85%, 90%, etc.)

89%, 317 cycles, Manu date Aug '23, First use date Sept '23, iOS 18 beta 4

I expected this to be better! Does this seem normal to you guys?

The new batteries Apple is using now are either trash compared to the older ones or the reporting is degrading them faster. I’m inclined to say using cheaper batteries cause Tim is all about profit and not products. Less impressed with Apple as time goes by.

It is a lottery, people have been and are still getting batteries of higher or lower capacity.

Which is ironic because the 15 series batteries are supposed to be lasting twice as long as the previous batteries: https://www.macrumors.com/2024/02/20/apple-raises-iphone-15-advertised-battery-lifespan/

Going to update again to public beta when I get home. Battery life is even worse on 17.5.1…
Yeah battery life is quite okayish on dev beta 4 right now - average 5 1/2 hrs SOT with my 15 PM - will improve for sure when beta is finished and official release of iOS 18 is released.

The new beta is just awful as well. Photos and texts are super slow. How did they manage to f this up so badly. Fresh install again this week. So over apple betas

Started the day with 80% battery and a message saying that charging stoppet due to device being to hot (haven’t seen that message before). Took the phone of the charger at 5.30 AM, was at 9% at 5 PM, charged up to 25% and now 8.40 PM back to 9%. SOT today is only on 3 hours. So quite worse today.

People are going to leave Apple due to the battery life on beta software?
The quality of software and innovation. This is specific to production and non beta software. I went to the beta because 17.5.1 was becoming a PITA.

I see, they do seem to have been fairly stagnant software wise since iOS 6 to iOS 7 and hardware wise since the iPhone X. I could see RCS support making it easier for people to go to android as it will no longer make group chats a mess

7 1/2 hrs SOT today with my 15 PM from 85% to 7% - 12 hours day - on beta 4 revised - pretty good, hope to get around 10 hrs SOT when update releases in September

My battery health dropped 2% between 7 battery cycles.

99% at 199 cycles
98% at 206 cycles

I would say innovation slowed down after iOS 14, but innovation has slowed down on Android too. Name one new feature outside of Material You stuff than Android has done in years that you actually care about. And the Pixel line has been plagued by bad battery life for years, so that won't fix the original impetus to switch. You'd want to go Samsung/OnePlus/ASUS if you want good battery life on Android. No matter what you choose, the grass is always greener on the other side.

Updated from iOS17 to PB2.
So my drain is heating up to the point I have to put a fan on my phone to cool it down. I'm not sure why the random heating up - bad memory leaks?

Low power mode on PB2 is excellent! I wish battery life was like this normally

Thank you. I couldn’t find anyone else having the super slow texts and pics. Sending a gif is even worse

Of course. It has improved a little and I turned RCS off. But the watches have 3-4 hours and dead. Messages on one phone is unusable. But it's a backup.

Really can't say enough how bad this beta has been for me. Nothing outlandish either for use case or apps. Glad I have some others to also acknowledge the issue. Apple has done nothing in the reports of the issue.

I don’t think battery life/drain has been too bad in the hours since installing public beta 3 this afternoon. Come from 17.6. 15 Pro Max.
